Rare genetic trait in dogs, originating in Amazon area in South America: a "double nose."
Victor has provided the link, below. Thanks, Victor!
(p.s.: if you want to see photos, a search of "double-nosed andean tiger hound" will show them.)

Thank you, Victor !!!
I wish I had your computer skills.
No problem. I am no computer expert, believe me!
Last week, some PBS stations were running a documentary on explorer Percy Fawcett, who vanished during an Amazonian expedition in 1925.
I thought parts of the documentary boring ( or maybe I was just tired), but I always found those explorers to be quite brave.
Just 15 years ago, an expedition was taken hostage by a tribe, and only released when they surrendered all their gear!
That story about the double nosed dogs was very interesting. I think explorers are very brave myself. They have to be to do what they do.

Very interesting about the d.nosed dog, but I don't think they look that bad! I could love one... Maybe im just wuss.
I didn't think they were ugly...just different. Aren't we all ?!?
(Except for identical twins.)
Aren't we all? YES! Thats why I could love em w/no problem! LOL
I never heard of a breed called a tiger hound.....must be a very local breed......
Definately not American Kennel Club!
Def weird looking.
Sherrie, Xena looks great for her age....someone brought a 3 month old boxer into an office while I was there this week.....had the same face as Mr. G.......
Funny!
I like the one with the flying fur the best.
I wonder what we'd look like shaking off water!
nice shot of your babies Sherrie... loved that Victor
cute!!!
Nice Victor and Sherrie!
Very pretty colors on the kitties......
Hello, everyone. I let my subscription to Dave's Garden expire in June but missed this site so much I decided to re-join today.
Sad news about our 4 year old Shih-Tzu, Daisy.
On her 4th birthday, 7/10/11, Daisy somehow contracted an unknown infection. There was a bump above her left eye and the vet thought she was poked by a stick somewhere in the back yard. He prescribed antibiotics and she seemed to respond. On Tue. 7/12/11 she took a turn for the worse so we took her back to the vet and they put her in their ICU and suspected Leptospirosis (http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1556&aid=454). They were looking at the bump above her left eye and realized a fly had laid its eggs there and the larva had hatched. They removed the larva but she just kept getting sicker. On Friday, 7/15/11, the vet called us about 5:00 pm saying Daisy was in full renal failure despite all their attempts to stop this. We went and at 6:30 pm made the difficult decision to put our Daisy out of her misery. She went "over the pet rainbow" peacefully while laying on my wife's lap. We were and are devastated and miss her so very much. Her blood work came back negative for all of the 10 known strains of Lepto. so we are thinking it was the fly.

The story continues...
One week later, on Friday 7/22/11, I was looking at the website for our favorite pet store where we had gotten both our dogs. There was a picture of an irresistible male Shih-Tzu puppy. My son and I went that evening and liked him, so my wife and I went the next morning and took him home.
He is 12 weeks old, 3.7 pounds, already neutered and we named him Buster.
Certainly this will not bring Daisy back, but Buster does fill the hole left in our hearts and family. He is fitting into our family very well.
Oh Gosh Dave what a horrible thing to happen. So sorry for your loss.
Sounds like Buster will fit in nicely and fill your heart up once again. He is adorable!
Dave, nice to meet you. Sorry about Daisey but I'm glad you have Buddy in your family's life. I've joined this past year.

Dave, so sorry for your loss. We lost our Dad's dog Buffy several months ago, as everyone here knows, but you lost Daisy at such a young age. So sad! I'm so happy that you found a new little guy to fill your hearts with joy. We got a new dog, too, back in the end of May, a Basset hound mix named Jerry. He is a sweetie, but a pain in the butt, too. He is nearly 9 months old now. Your new little guy is adorable.

Dave, so sorry for your loss.
Just got back from the ER Vet with Wallingford. He got out - OK I have been letting him and Holly out when I am home - and got in a fight and got torn up. ER wanted $1,000 to put a drain in the wound in his neck. My usual vet charged 1/3 of that to put a drain in one of my strays and kept him in the hospital for 3 days! I opted for antibiotics and bringing Wallingford home. He is in a lot of pain and growls at me like I caused it. I'm going to try and treat it myself with lots of hot soaks and antibiotics and see how it goes. I will take him in if it doesn't look better by Monday. Wish me luck.
Sorry to hear of your loss Dave, but a nice gain!
Yank so sorry about Wallingford, hope he heals fine!
