Having asthma myself, I don't care for the short nosed breeds. However, I really don't care for dishonest people!!!!!!!!!!!! No airline would really ship animals that young.

I hate scammers of any kind. I started to fall for a romance scammer, much to my total embarrassment. If it weren't for a friend who told me she saw a story on Oprah about those scams, I might have continued. I was lucky I never lost any money. I didn't get far enough into it for him to begin asking for money.

My sis fell for a online dating scam too, good she didn't send any $ either
Simple "cure": ask THEM for verifiable details...bank account numbers, home addresses that are verifiable.... these jerks use info on victims, so just turn the info around, and accumulate info on THEM !
ooohh airlines do ship puppies past 8 weeks old.. when I signed up for the one website .. they require a breeder to be able to ship puppies and walked me though the whole process.. told me which airlines have climate controlled cargo areas and all... had a whole page of notes just how to do that.. glad I didn't have to go that route though.. I wasn't feeling good about sending one of these babies that way
Petfinder is a great way to adopt. I knew Cliffie was real because he had a listing that I could check there. He was with a missionary church group too, but everything checked out as ligit and known by a local pet shelter site. The group takes in stray teenagers who foster unwanted dogs. There's an amazing adoption bus system from Atlanta to Nashua bringing fostered southern dogs to northern homes. Massachusetts has a quanantine law so they have to stop in Rhode Island or Nashua New Hampshire. There must have been thirty dogs getting off to meet their families the day we got Cliffie.
A friend has adopted a couple dogs from shelters. They also originated in the south. What is with the southern states. We have stray & unwanted dogs in the north also. I just wondered why the southern dogs have to come here. Not objecting, just wondering.
The northern states have more legal protections for animals. There are many unscrupulous breeders, puppy mills in the south, more abandoned dogs along the roads. A very different sort of place for unwanted pets. My particular pet was abandoned to a high kill pound by his breeder after he was grown and she changed her mind about breeding him. I don't believe you see quite as much in the north, for one thing, because the animal activists publicize, buy out or close many (but clearly not all) mills that would do such a thing. There are reciprical arrangements between the activist groups too, so they send many of these unwanted pets up north to be adopted.
I found Jerry through Petfinder.com. Lucy, seems there is a much bigger population of unwanted pets in the south. Not sure why, but there you have it. I think they are less educated about neutering their pets, not breeding, etc.

Rosemary, we cross posted.
I, for one, do not believe in breeding dogs for the most part. There are just too many unwanted pets out there, and too many unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills and such. I have a friend who has a German Shepherd. She and her husband talked about breeding her. I told her I didn't like the idea. For one thing that dog is too nervous and bites. A dog like that should not be bred and pass on that nervous temperament.

It's about the "Almighty Dollar."
Breeding animals has low start-up costs, and land is cheaper in the South, and (as mentioned above) the laws and public watchdog agencies are quite lax.
Many Southeners don't believe in spaying or neutering, plus many of them can't afford vet care...also they still have kill shelters there....the north & west are better educated about such things...I got Suey from petfinder, but she was in a no kill shelter in the northern part of the county, so I got to meet her before deciding to adopt....
Interesting comments all. We used to raise cocker spaniels in our younger days for show. but when we sold puppies, mainly males as we had our stud we recommended neutering to the buyer. We were not a big operation.
I can say out of experience .. the puppies do take after mom, dad, and grandparents.. and don't know which trades they are going to get.. until after 6 months old.. so whatever problems the parent has.. the kids will as well.. was fun to watch the pups grow and see who got what though.. knowing most of the background .. all but Riley's mom and dad.. they were from Brazil
:)
This should have been shot for Youtube, & labeled Dumb, Dumb, & Dumber....this afternoon, Robs was asking for a treat....I keep them in the mudroom....could not open the pkg so went into bathroom for scissors...when I turned, both dogs were sitting like good pups for their treats...unknown to me, Suey's tail was in the door (Dumb)....Robs turned quickly, & closed the door on Suey's tail(Dumb)...she's squealing like a pig....I'm squealing as well, & I jump down to open door & lift Suey's tail out ....door clocks me in forehead, & though I iced immediately, I have a large sore lump(Dumber)!
Two big dogs + a human = The Three Stooges.
(Blame the dogs !)
oh geeze.. just one of those heart droppers when you don't expect why they are screaming.. just what one needs to remind us we are alive.. sheesh
Wish you caught that on video
My head still hurts...don't know about Suey's tail...she's wagging it, though.....
oh no
Rabbies is around....we had reports in the two towns bordering us. Last week my BIL dogs were outside and 6 skunks showed up on his lawn and started chasing his dogs!!!!!
Good grief! Attack of the skunks!
never saw anything like it before.
Dog is out at night??
My Jerry, whom I got through Petfinder, originally came from Tennessee, and was from an abandoned litter. So sad, and he's such a sweet guy.
Oh, man, Marilyn, BUMMER!!!!! That must have hurt!
Sherrie, I feel for you!
Karen
So far my fence has been keeping the skunks out, but I don't let the dogs stay out past 11.....
Several years ago I had a skunk come into the yard once in broad daylight, which was odd. He went down the street, no fear. Never saw him again, though. Haven't had any around here lately, and I hope Patches and Jerry don't find any.
Jerry kept taking off on me today. Usually somewhere in the yard where I couldn't see him, and totally ignored me when I called. GRRRRR!!!!!!
Karen
starting to sound like my guys
Or my sons.
LOL! Jerry will be good for awhile, but then when I'm not looking he may sneak away. He doesn't do it if I get him good and tired. Tomorrow morning they'll both get a long walk. I need a good walk myself.
Karen
