ut oh.. going to mess up your flowers?
Garden Blooms #10
I just found rose petals on the other side of the house.
These kids were never diciplined ,either at home or when they visit. I cant remember such chaos and yelling and demanding anything.
DD and I will get together to vent later. Its SIL's cousin,he isnt especially fond of her but they invited themselves from Texas and SIL's brother asked if we could "take them off their hands" for a evening.
SIL is very accomodating and will do anything for anybody.
Glad the damage wasn't worse, Jo! I don't know if the paving will kill off my flowers or not....other than the lily, there's really nothing by the roadside that cannot be replaced....and the tradescantia & Montauk daisies are out of hand anyway....
Hopefully the nice SIL will be accommodating enough to you and DD next time to not accept her cousins
unwanted invitation to invade NY from Texas with their unruly mob. The saying Don't Mess with Texas, might just get changed to "Don't Mess with Jo's Roses".
I always decline those unwanted, but difficult relatives and friends with, "Oh love for you to come, but summer is booked, how about March?" They never come. Works every time. Patti
It was SIL's sister in law who said yes to the invite. Then she needed a break and palmed them off on us.
I really have no vote here and took a leeping pill after I gave the kids a blast from my pipes when they lost their football in the hydrangea under my bedroom window on my end of the house.
I can strike terror with just a few words. I have a Lauren Bacall voice that kills when raised to its operatic heights.
joann i can hear you now!
my brothers kids are the same way - they are rarely invited - my brother encourages them to run through the beds just to get me going - last invite was 3 years ago.
Oh I'd have to kill them
My blood pressure is up now.
I had to herd four girls as a young mother. There just wasnt time to be reasonable in crisis situations.
Jo, your voice is like Bacall's! Should strike fear in those hooligans. Bill, can see why your brother isn't invited! My sister, who has her own gardens, supposedly, is always raiding mine...flowers & veggies!
I'm having a family gathering in July. Two of my uncles have younger children who are completely undisciplined. I cringe to think of them tearing through my gardens trying to catch frogs in the pond! The worst part is watching the parents do NOtHING! I blame the parents more than the kids. Fortunately they come only once every five years or so. My niece and nephew, who visit much more frequently, are very well-mannered.
good luck soj :)
nice ,is it a DL?
Great stuff, everyone!
Celeste, I love your shot of the hummingbird moth. Very nice!
Marilyn, I need some of that Prairie White penstemon. I like long-lived ones! I would be happy if I was on a dirt road that was getting paved. Half of our road is dirt, and when the weather is really dry I'm always thinking how dusty their places must be from the cars going by and kicking up dust. Then when it freezes and thaws you get a lot of mud and big ruts, as well as when we get a lot of rain. Paved roads are so much cleaner.
Patti, I can't believe you still have any daffs and primulas blooming. I think I might actually have that Francesca still in bloom. That one is a real long lasting bloomer.
Jo, enjoy your garden party today. I hope you're getting good weather for it. We are overcast and cool here today. I'm having a big party here on the 4th. Hoping for good weather. Sorry about your picked flowers. :-( Those kids sound like me and my sisters and brother when we were little. We were never disciplined either. I always vowed to discipline my kids if I ever had any, but I never did. I would have been a terrible mother, though. I would have been a drill sergeant. My mother was a wonderful person, just not good at discipline. She had every excuse in the world why we were so ill behaved. Her favorite was that we just wouldn't listen.
Allison, that lily is huge! Must add some of those to me gardens. I have had a bunny running rampant in my gardens. He keeps chewing up a Cape Sweet Pea that I got from Annie's I despair of ever seeing it grow. I try and keep up a spray of hot pepper wax on it, but he seems to be immune. Love your Desert Song lily.
Victor, I love your lavender/pink JI.
Jen, love that Double Pompon.
Karen
Penstemon 'Blue Lips' from HCG.
Thanks for the good wishes Karen.
Its low humid and raining.70% chance of rain today. we will all be inside .
These women are witty and undaunted so its just a get together and ram over Weiner and the others who have miss-stepped their office.
nice Karen.. I just planted blue lips this year.. it's great.. can't wait!!... Pirl suggested to dust with blood meal to keep the bunny away
pretty
Just read the oroginal post.
This Mullin is new.The first time I saw it was 3 years ago before I put the Lasagna garden in.I waited til it set seed and pulled the plant and set it in a garden on the other side of the house. It didnt work.
The appearance of this plant is a real treat.I am not messin with it.
Hopefully it will set seed, Jo....I love the penstemons, too, Karen.....most are short lived.....
Yes Double Pompon is a DL
I like that Blue Lips
Nice mullien, Jo! I love those, too, even the common ones that are considered weeds. I let them grow around here if they are not in places where I don't want them.
Marilyn, Annie's has 2 penstemons that they say are longer lived than most. Here they are: http://anniesannuals.com/plt_lst/lists/general/lst.gen.asp?prodid=3058&prp_let=P&rs_start=60 , http://anniesannuals.com/plt_lst/lists/general/lst.gen.asp?prodid=2318&prp_let=P&rs_start=60 . The one called Thorn I had gotten last year, but it did not survive the winter. This year I ordered Midnight, and we will see how it will do. That 'Sweet Joanne' Penstemon I ordered last year and did very well. The foliage is very similar to the 'Red Rocks' Penstemon, if you're familiar with that one.
Here is white malva and Salvia 'Snow Hill'.
Karen
love the fairy.. have the same sedum.. boy is that stuff tough
Thanks. Yes, that sedum really is tough. I actually have 3 different sedums in that bed, and the sedum around the septic tank/rock garden is a different one altogether, a heavy spreader, but is easy to pull out and get rid of. Very easy to root, too. Just place on the ground and water. Instant plants!
Karen
Achillea 'Summer Berries'
it's on one of my slopes.. on top of dying tree root.. doesn't need much soil either
