Oh, yes! Love to be with the kids, but so glad when they're home....have fun being grands!
Spending spree #7
Those sound like nice fillers, Marilyn.
I didn't get much done in the gardens this past weekend, as I went gallavanting, but I did get some weeding and mulching/fertilizing done on Saturday. Will be doing more of that today after work.
Karen
What a great website...really great advanced search on here
http://www.perennialresource.com/encyclopedia/
Great link Jen, thanks!
That's an interesting link, Jen.
My niece took me to Borglum's iris far....2 clumps of sibs, & 3 TBIs.....can't wait to see the colors of what I bought!
What fun! Let us know what colors they are. Surprises are awesome!
I asked for his brightest blue sib, and a white with blue edging.....for the TBIs, a bright wine, a white & lime bicolor, and a pink & dark purple bicolor....
They sound gorgeous! Welcome home...
Pam
Thanks Pam! It was a nice trip.....I still have the hostas to dig for you....will you be in CT the last week of August? Let me know......
Sounds like you had fun, Marilyn, and those irises sound nice. Will look forward to seeing pics of them.
Karen
Now that would be a spending spree!!!!!
Karen
The Hope Diamond was the first thing I went to see in DC.
Marilyn, We'll be in CT from the 29th through LD weekend. Let's visit!
I'm already ordering for plant delivery that week. Sent in Bluestone, working on Lazy S. Bulbs from American Meadows will come later.
Pam
Debi, I was the same as you. The star of Asia and the Star of Bombay weren't bad to look at, either. All well worth dragging the family over to see.
When did they put in the necklace?...for some reason I remember it just being shown by itself...or maybe I'm just losing it!
The signs said they periodically change the setting for the Hope Diamond. I think they're putting it back in one of their traditional settings this fall. Some time ago I also saw it displayed all alone. The display cases look less thick than I remembered, also.
It used to be on display in the wall instead of the middle of the floor with all those people walking around it. The # of times I've been there I just remember it being alone
I approve. No thumbs up sign.
nice!!
Pretty, Marilyn! This isn't a new plant, but we did get a new snowbird car today. It's a Dodge Journey with lots of storage room, so I'm planning which plants will make the trip. lol Hank is loving it. He's named it "Ram (as in Dodge) - Bo" :) More room to purchase more plants! The kids weren't out the door and on their way back to Colorado before we were heading to the dealer to pick Ram-Bo up.
NICE
very nice!!
I'd love a new Ram-bo, too. Looks like it's going to be useful AND fun.
Way to go DB & Hank!!!! You'll have to make a list of the plants you intend to take back.
Very nice...love the color!
LOVE IT!!!! Yay for more plant room.
Thanks, Guys. It will be better than my Volvo for the trip back and forth....so much storage space and nice techy features, plus remote start so we can both go into a rest area at the same time with the girls locked in with the a/c on in 100 degrees in Georgia. lol They also now have their own a/c controls in the back seat. The Volvo had that too, but not with separate controls. My son will babysit the Volvo for the winter.
nice.. I miss remote start
...and the spending spree continues! We missed Davis Brook Farm's bare root DL sale yesterday. Darn! I think we'll take a spin over tomorrow. Hank wants Lord Cornwallis for his garden and I want either Pandora's Box or Janice Brown.
Allison - did you use remote start a lot?
I need Janice Brown, too!
I have Janice Brown and Pandora's Box. Don't know if JB is big enough to split but Pandora's is so please don't buy it.
oooh, I'd love one of your Pandora's Box's when you split it!! I've had it on my list for quite awhile and just never quite got to its place on my list. I usually run out of money before I make it there. lol
We did go to Davis Brook Farm today and we were in luck! Their bare root sale was yesterday, but they still had some that were on my list. I love the way they put the actual blooms in bottles so you can see exactly what they really look like. Their prices were great! Hank got his Lord Cornwallis that was on his list, and I got Thumbelina, Baltimore Oriole, Golden Prize, Second Thoughts and Sherry Fair. They dug them for me while we were there and most sold for $9.00 or less. I had to hustle to tear out the magenta cranesbill that was on the porch end of the big rock in the Friendship Garden. There was a lot of roots to dig up, but I got 4 in before the thunder got too close and Hank got Lord C. in his expanding DL garden in front of the wooden fence. Now he has Quaking Aspen, Canadian Border Patrol and Lord C. I have violated a primary rule in the Friendship Garden, where, heretofore, only plants from friends have been allowed to live. I have rationalized that I am quite a good friend to myself, so these new shorties can pass the entrance exam. :)
Louise, you are too funny! How do they get a bloom in a bottle? Do they preserve the bloom in some way? Sounds interesting.....Could not dig any of my plants today, just too wet & thundery out there....
That sounds like a nice time Louise!! Not familar with some and will have to look them up. :)
Yesterday I bought a 'white' daylily, Ice Carnival, just couldn't resist. J said, 'Talk about coals to Newcastle,' but that didn't stop me. So today I dodged raindrops- and thunder and lightning!- and re-designed a corner bed, mixing in lots of pale yellow foliage. I'll put a few 'Butter and Cream' nasturtiums in front next spring, almost the same color as the DL, and that whole dark corner will light up.
I did get damp, but missed getting soaked--only once had to make a run for it.
OK! OK, I admit it...just a little obsessive...
Pam
I got 'Ice Carnival' this year too. It's very pretty.
