Spending spree #7

Thomaston, CT

My latest project needs a few ferns...think I'll head up to Ward's in Gt. Barrington tomorrow to see what they have......

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I love any kind of ferns. Get some Japanese Beech Ferns if you can. Those are really nice.

Thomaston, CT

I'll look for them, Karen.....I have an Eared Lady Fern that I love, too......

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That's a new one on me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How is Japanese beech fern performing, Karen? How much, if any, sun can it tolerate? How tall does it get? How quickly does it spread?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

One last order for the season - from Deer Resistant Plants. Silver Falls fern, Biokovo Karmina geranium and cells of Blue Ice amsonia.

Thomaston, CT

Bought Branford Rambling Fern today, along with a fuchsia, and some mints for the herb garden....

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I love amsonia.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No plants today..$ went for Brian's father's Day gift. He got a new stainless steel grill....he's cooking tonight. ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - put him to work on it already?!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The spell checker keeps changing amsonia to ammonia!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, practice makes perfect. :)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor, until this year, my Japanese beech fern was doing very well in partial shade. I don't know what happened. I only have a tiny piece left. It likes moist to dry shade. Don't know about its sun tolerance. It's supposed to get to 3' tall, but mine always seemed to get only about 2'. Maybe cause it's in dry shade. Would probably grow taller in moist shade. It's supposed to spread fairly quickly, too, but mine did not, and there again, I attribute that to it being on the dry side.

Thanks, Karen.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

running errands today brought me too close to mason hollow nursery - walked out with 5 more hosta, 2 fothergilla red licorice and a jane platt and a abelia mosanersis.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sucked ya in, huh?

Thomaston, CT

Storms do that! It's the barometric pressure!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!!!!!!

Karen

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Lot of cash damage being done by you all. I have been behaving mostly. Planted the three plants we picked up in Vt.

Acanthus spinosus
Lavandula angustifolia Potpourri Sky Blue
Silphium integrifolium

Mostly weeding and deadheading and trying to id my photographs. I have flunked Father's Day this year. Got nothing for the DH. Maybe I will take him to the nursery and see if he wants anything. He won't find that amusing. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Uh Oh.....how about baking a dessert...that's all mine ever wanted......

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

He is the better baker. But maybe I could bake some cookies if I get my garden work done early in the morning. Patti

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh good Patti.. I am now considering you my Acanthus spinosus backup if mine does not return.. LOL.. Randy loves it!!!... any plant he loves and goes out of his way to want to plant.. he can have

South Hamilton, MA

I am so glad that we don't celebrate Mothers & Father's Day. It makes life more relaxing. We do go out to dinner on our birthdays & anniversary. don't mind other people doing the 'days', it is just easier on us not to especially as we get older.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We never go out. Too crowded.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think Mother's Day is usually way more crowded than Father's Day, I think the dad's rather stay home and bbq, but we are going out to a tiny german restaurant, I think our party is going to fill the entire place.

South Hamilton, MA

those are usually the only times. Early in the evening works well here unless going to a real popular one in the summer. We should really do lunch then.

South Hamilton, MA

Nasty mosquitos make eating in the backyard a chore.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Mom's day much worse.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Might be going to a local nursery tomorrow, mostly for some annuals. Will see what kind of damage I can do.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sooo I got an email that my local ace hardware had 10" hanging annual baskets for $4.99.. and I see a sign start reading it... giggle.. and say to the worker "you guys are funny"... he runs back in the store and screams to his co-workers... "We have a smart customer"... 3 employees came running to the door and started telling me I am the only person for weeks... who got it... I of course say "ooohhh what's my prize?".. LOL.. and knowingly or not.. the kid forgot to ring up a cucumber I bought to replace the rotten ones I have.. and the chipmunks keep digging up the seeds I put down.. but I did buy 2 baskets of petunias & 2 of torenia .. either way mistake or not... made me giggle when I got out to the car and looked at the receipt

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Exactly, I would have sold it to her....and said "oh ya know what I'll even give you 50% off"
