I got a nozzle at the Boston Flower Show this year. I believe it's called Bon-Aire Ultimate sprayer - or something like that. It is the best I've ever found and supposedly will last for years (the jury is still out on that one). I'd paste the link if I could figure out how to do that on my iPad! But google will find it If anyone is interested.

I sure wish I had all those half barrow planters.... man could I grow some plants in those.... sad thing is it would take an ARMY to move them when we finally do find a place.

Daniel Derondi, Bill?

Abundance is incredibly floriferous.

Looks like I lost my new blue false cypress. Grrr.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Patti, I got a really nice watering wand last year, I think from HD or Lowe's, and this year it broke. Got another. I think I paid about $8 each for them. So annoying. I'm sure they are made in China. Most hoses are junk, too. Would love to get a few of this kind: http://www.factorydirecthose.com/site/932652/page/2143237 . And I need one of those ultimate hose nozzles to go with it. Sounds like you had a great time with your visitors. Look forward to seeing pics of their place once you get over there and take them.

Marilyn, I have not photographed that rose yet. Too busy. I did check the name but forgot it. It's 'something Cascade', I think. That new hosta is a nice one, and what a great price.

Book, you got some good deals at Lowe's.

Celeste, I'm good at killing gerbera daisies, too. Those and petunias. They look so beautiful when I get them. Don't know what I'm dong wrong. Afraid to spend more money on either one.

Bill, I've been to Pakistan twice and loved it there, but it helped that I was with locals who knew all the ins and outs. Would have been lost otherwise. I have a DG friend from India whom I would love to visit someday.

Victor, sorry for the loss on you blue false cypress. A shame.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

weeze the CQ is big and wide so that is great.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Karen water gels & fertilizer.. petunias are heavy feeders... I dead head mine like crazy ... even the ones they say you don't have to

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Visited Mixed Border in Hollis for the first time. I was happy to find Asao (Clem) after seeing several of you post pics of it. I've been looking for it since last year - even Garden Crossings was sold out. I also got two mini hostas - Holy Moly Mouse Ears and Pandora's Box.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

need to go there soon soj did not make it there last year

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

ViburnumValley (who probably doesn't even follow this tread, being from Kentucky) would be proud of me, I bought my first Viburnum (doublefile) last week. I'm trying to find a Cornus alternifolia Golden Shadows but no one locally seems to have it. I'm considering ordering from Klehm's Songsparrow but worried a deciduous tree from them would be awfully small. Anyone have any experience ordering a deciduous tree from them?

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Nice place. It Started pouring as soon as I got there but someone quickly greeted me with a large umbrella. Spent over an hour browsing in the rain.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats on your first viburnum, gg! Yes, VV would be proud. He is a great guy. I have many viburnums. Which doublefile did you get?

Golden Shadows is wonderful! Check Fairweather Gardens or Wildwood Maples.

Had a plant sale today, and though we pretty much got rained out, I did make about $60, and my friend Karen, who also brought plants over, made about $25. So we went to one of our favorite places, Kennedy's Country Gardens in Scituate. I spent way to much over there, which is par for the course when I go to that place. I got about 3 nice colueus. One was called (I think) Mint Chocolate, another was Sedona, then Freckles, and I forget what the 4th one was. Also got several more annuals and 2 gorgeous tuberous begonias. Got a bag of bamboo stakes and a 20 lb. bag of Plantone organic fertilizer. I got a gorgeous silene called Vesuvius, which has hot red orange, large blooms. I was looking for a bleeding heart called Candy Hearts. They had some, but they sold out of it quick. Might be getting more. I got some kind of ground cover that looks very much like tiny fern foliage, and soft. One of those 'Steppables', although it wasn't that particular brand. And I got what I think is a Serbian bellflower, a white one, very cute. They had a chartreuse millet that I would love to get, but I hesitate to pay $8 for an annual. They also had Black And Blue salvia, but there again, an annual, and that one was $10! They can keep it.

SOJ, I bought that Pandora's Box mini hosta a couple of years ago. I love it. So cute.

Granitegneiss: I ordered cornus Golden Shadows from Forest Farm this spring. I also bought some other shrubs from Klehms. Both do a good job with shrubs--none have been pot bound and they've all grown. Since they've been put in tall pots on my deck since mid April, they have all added over a foot in heighth. I haven't spotted a reasonably priced Golden Shadows, but I did find a Cornus Wolf Eyes locally for $79 and a good size too, which would have been better than the mail order at $39 considering its better development. So, I guess if you have time to look far enough, you might find a larger Golden shadows in a nursery, but mail order saves time and money. Here's golden shadows just after planting:

Karen, do you have your Pandora's Box in the ground or a container?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my golden shadows came from fairweather

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

soj it is not that big of a place - very easy to spend an hour or more there - nice touch with the umbrella!

granite - golden shadows is a great tree - i have two - got the first one on a fall sale and picked up another from the same place last fall for $5 - sorry:) i would search a bit more locally - besides victors places check out avant gardens

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Allison. I did have Sedona last year, and I just loved it.

SOJ, I have my Pandora's Box in the ground, but I'm sure it would do well in a container, too, being as small as it is.

Oh, one plant I forgot to mention that I got yesterday was a low growing penstemon, whose name I can't remember now. It hangs over the edge of the pot, so might look good in a container or an area where it can cascade down over something.

Karen

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Rosemary, I saw Wolf Eyes at the nursery I went to yesterday. It was about $100 there, but a very good size. No Golden Shadows, though. I would love to have both, and will probably do mail order. I can wait for them to grow.

Got a Zephirine Drouhin rose and Sharp's Pygmy JM today. I saw a gorgeous Tsuma Gaki that I would have bought in a heartbeat if it wasn't sold. It was absolutely stunning! Now I must find one! Does anyone have this tree?

No, but there are a number of JM's with that 'painted fingernail' pattern.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I was more struck by the summer color (the painted fingernail look was mostly gone). Many of the leaves had wide red margins with cream in the center. It was very striking.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have it soj:)

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Why am i not surprised? :) I don't remember seeing it but I was a little overwhelmed by your collection! Would you recommend it?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Just a little overwhelmed Songs? LOL I was blown away!!!

Anything with rocks and JM's? If they were all taken out of the yard what would Bill do?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

soj it is new this year so i can only go by how it is doing now which is great - i have it in a container on the new shade garden kinda of behind the olsen frosted strawberry jm

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I need some JM's. I only have what I believe is Bloodgood, which is quite large, and the Full Moon JM. Need more. Probably not this year, but one never knows.

Thomaston, CT

My white pine that came down in Thurs.' storm went right between 2 of my JMs.....they would have been totally crushed.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

very lucky!

btw how is the purple ghost doing at your sons home? mine looks great.

Thomaston, CT

Garret's looks great, too...he staked it, and put it in a garden where the wirehaired pointing griffon won't dig it up......

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

good to hear - they certainly did not live up to the hype last year- that happens when they are grown under a shade cloth - this spring it was just glowing purple

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Marilyn, it's a good thing that tree did not come down on top of those JM's. That would have been bad.

SOJ, here is a picture I took tonight of my 'Pandora's Box' with hosta 'Gold Standard'.

Nice! I love it with Gold Standard! I haven't decided if I'm going to plant mine in the ground or not. I have 4 mini's - I thought it might be nice to get a few small stone planters for them so they stand out a little more.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks. I have never tried them in planters, but they're perfect for them. That gives me some ideas. :-)
