It has been a really slow hummer season in my neck of the woods, but 3 days ago, in between some heavy downpours, the activity really picked up. I was able to identify 4 different hummers, 2 females, an immature male & a mature male. The young guy came to my window feeder after a particularly heavy rain. The feeder hangs from an awning over my bathroom window, so it's only about 18" from my face. The feathers on little dude's head were sticking straight up, like bed head or a really bad feather day! His head snapped back (but he stayed on the perch), & he glared at me like, "And what are YOU lookin' at?!". I couldn't help but laugh out loud (which still didn't scare him off). I really do have to get another camera (& learn how to upload pics). He looked like a faerie-sized version of Mr.T.! (Maybe I should amend the quote to, "Whatchoo lookin' at, fool?!").

I have only seen a few RT's this year. Fall migration must be starting. I've seen a female every morning for the last 3 days. Refilled my feeders - she drank this morning just a bit and flew off. Honeysuckle is reblooming and so is the beebalm so I am hoping for more with the fall migration than I got this spring.

It is that time of the year when the dominate male in our yard takes to perching on the shepherd's hook to guard the feeders!

How about I start the new thread...be right back!
