2011 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 2

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Honestly..I think they are all at my house!! Haven't even tried to get pics with the miserable weather but I am feeding about a gallon and a half of sugar water per day. I have 10 feeders out and they all seem to have hummers at them most of the day. I need to get a closer look as I am sure some of them must be juvies.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Whoa! I told you so. lol. Nice seeing you Rose. 1.5 gallons a day! Pictures please.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Rose, have you contacted one of the Missouri banders? I think they'd want to know about your place.

Holy Cow.....I would love to have a third of that action!!

We had so many the first summer here but then we had the years of storms since and the population was diminished. We seem to maybe beginning to make recovery this year.

This is the best I could get and it is thru the window to boot!

Nice. I'm not seeing any again. I had that one a few days ago.

Nice through the window catch

So Rose, I had an idea that we should try to get you some corporate sponsorship. I know that Some sugar companies DO provide sugar for people like you. We could make little advertising stickers and put on your feeders and stream live video. You'll be rich, Right Margaret?

PERTH, Australia

Absolutely right, Mrs Ed. Rose, you'll be rich! Rich you hear?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

… beyond your wildest dreams!

PERTH, Australia

Exactly right!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

And Rose, when you become rich. Don't forget us friends. Or at the least don't forget moi. lol
I just discovered this different type of sunflower, called Mexican Flower. Hummingbirds seem to be fond of them bright orange blooms. They won't hang around for pix though. :(( On the bright side, the skipper did stop for me. Yeah!

Yes Kim, that is one of my favorites to grow for the hummingbirds. By the time they arrive here in the fall,t hey are in full bloom. and of course they are also butterfly magnets.

Wooohooo, nice catch there Marna. I've a package of seeds that I bought. Hope it will keep for next year? Currently I deadhead the spent flowers to encourage more blooms.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Lots of people say that they reseed well. This is the first year I've noticed seedlings, but they are far behind those that I had already planted. It's a short season for us up here because they are very sensitive to the cold. But yah, they should keep and just let a few blooms go to seed you can collect.

Here's another one form 9/14/09

I hope I caught this one! They're becoming one of my fav. annuals. Thanks Marna, I'll try to save a few for seeds next spring. This photo is right off the press .... errrr camera. lol

Thank you Burn, I like to watch (photograph) them at the feeders too, but most of the images I'm drawn to are with flowers.

Great hummer shots everyone.

Late this afternoon we had a thunder storm, followed by a nice rain. These were taken during a break in the rain.
