74 sunny and breezy right now. What a treat!
If I had a few more snakes, maybe I'd have a few less mice.
Weather in Your Garden # 97
We had our rain yesterday morning, just sprinkled in the evening. tornado warnings were up as a cell scurried along the MA & NH state line. It was a different cell than the one which hit springfield.
nice day today
Patti, of course I wear a Petzl headlamp. It's what all the cool slug hunters are wearing, you know. I put leaves of Romaine lettuce all around the hosta and then go out with a spray bottle of ten parts water/one part ammonia and spray the slugs that gather on the lettuce. It works great. The only problem is that my garden is really filling out now and there is less space for the lettuce.
Gorgeous day! Breezy, dry and 73. Spectacular.
54 cool and breezy, high of 67, 20 less than the past 2 days
what a difference a day makes
Noreaster, Ah, The Big Picture is forming and it is hysterical. But it seems like a waste of good lettuce. What about using some type of weed? Must be one that you could pull and throw down A la Bobby Flay instead of Romaine. I like the spraying action, and I assume they die quickly. Not that I really care. I wonder if they would gather on Day lily leaves as I have tons of those that I could spare and assume you do too. Foot gear must be tricky. Tracking in slim wouldn't be good. Happy Hunting. Patti
Oh, the weather here is lovely too. Storm brought in a lot of rain, but no damage. Patti
Sun reaches 71 degrees high in the sky today! Pretty close to the solstice max.
Victor, that's hard for me to hear.....I like the long hours of light! Not a drop of rain here yesterday, rumbles of thunder no closer than 2 towns to the north.....lots of trees down in the NW corner of the state though. Today, 70s, sunny & breezy....some friends from art class are coming to see the gardens this afternoon.
Very windy!!!
Here as well.....gusting to 30 mph.....
Windy, sunny, mild and beautiful at 75 degrees, 34% humidity.
Patti, i know it does seem like a waste of lettuce, but it's the only thing I've found that truly works...the slugs love the lettuce and bypass the hosta for it. Plus thats how I find them to kill them. The lettuce leaves last a long time until they eventually are entirely devoured. I have tried beer and havent attracted any with that...others swear by it, so i have come to conclude that slug preferences vary by type. I have three slugs in my yard- pale ones that die instantly when sprayed, dark ones that take a little more time, and then the big fat gold ones that writhe and take quite a while to die...iften those I just skewer with a nearby stick because I dont like to see any creature suffer- even slugs! I also have small snails and those I do find quite often on daylily foliage.
Funny you mention weeds- I've got a ginormous perennial one in the corner that the slugs DO love...that's why I haven't yanked it. I will take a pic and see if you guys can ID it. Maybe I can propagate that thing and save some money on lettuce!
It's so gusty today and I hate, hate, hate days like this where the hosta leaves get whipped around. I cant even stand to look outside and am hoping it calms down soon.
Perfect out there! Has gone DOWN to 71. 37% H. Lots of wind.
71° & breezy perfect day to work in the garden & after yesterdays work I haven't felt up to it.
still only 59, but sunny and the wind calmed down a lot since yesterday, nice day to be out
Feels great to me.
Temp went down here, also.....68, & still quite windy...WC, a house on my mail route here in town grew those cactus by their front door......looked awful in the winter, but perked right up in the summer.....
the wind is kicking here too.. but I am not complaining.. I will take this any day over the last weeks weather!!
- Yes, not my Choice for the front of the house, more like a backyard specimen, find it interesting that it can take snow, freezing weather and still survive..
- Breezy here, not bad... the sun is very intense, the breeze helps.
Just finished up with the veggies and window boxes. Pooped and my back is killing me. But it was a perfect garden day, other than the wind whipping stuff into my eyes. 70, clear and windy now. How often this time of year is the high for the day at midnight?!! That's what it was - 80 at midnight.
Super windy!!! but I LOVE this weather, I'll def take it over 90°
High was 81°
High here was 76 but so breezy that it never felt that hot.
Jack finished planting all the vegetables! The garden looks perfect but weeds are sure to come.
I hear ya Sherrie! it's 55 here and im freezing!
the wind is so nuts.. I saw birds flying backwards trying to get on the feeders
:)
temp down to 61°
One bad thing today was the pollen. My eyes are so itchy right now! Been sneezing too. 62 here now.
well then who you calling wimps!!!
I have itchy eyes, too, Victor. The wind was so fierce it was ripping leaves off trees!
61 here now and still windy. At what speed does a "breeze" change to "wind"?
Saw lots of leaves here too.
70 and sunny. Much nicer sleeping weather than the 90's we had earlier this week.
51 going to 75
It is rather long...I'll start a new one Sherrie.
