that's where my guys are different.. they get out.. they are gone
NE forum pets #14
Glad that Cliffie is smart. Our cockers may not have been that smart, but were not dumb either. They are supposed to flash point & then spook the game.
Yeah, I loved my cockers dearly, thinking I'd never love another dog, and they did what their breeding dictated. But, they ran after the neighbor's Irish Wolfhound every chance they had, and that dog could really hurt them. Also their ears didn't work very well with directional sounds, so they always ran the wrong way and got disoriented. Tony, our boy cocker, lived about 22 years, an extraordinarily long life. And you could watch TV with a cocker on your lap. Do you still have yours, Iris?
Hers are long gone. I remember them, however. They were fun to play with when I was young.
Here's to the memory of pets that are gone.
Jerry is settling in nicely now. My sister Hope went for a walk with him, Patches and Dad this morning, and did a lot of playing with him. She even made a little makeshift 'pool' in our sand box, and he loved it. He plopped right down in the water. We think he's part Lab. Except for the Basset part, though, it's really hard to tell what he's mixed with.
Here's a picture of Patches and Jerry on my bed. Patches tolerates him. She really doesn't want to be his friend, though.
Karen
He looks very much like my neighbor's German Short Haired pointer
Patches is laid back right?... but you never know things might change between them
Patches is very laid back. Jerry is pretty laid back, too, though Patches is much more so. Jerry still has puppy energy. I think he'll be a very laid back adult.
that would be the.. get the camera out of my face look right?
too cute
Actually the camera wasn't in her face. I was zoomed in.
Patches is dreamy. Thanks for the pics.
Thanks! He really is a love bug, and Hope adores him. He's good at ignoring us when he wants to. I will need to work on coming when called with him. Earlier, at dinner, he came into the kitchen, and when I was trying to get him to go into the living room he just plopped down on the floor, and I was pushing him with my foot until he finally got the hint. Mostly he's very good and behaves surprisingly well.

You're welcome, Rosemary.
Pit Bull? I don't see it

Yes he has a pointer type or hound type head.
That would be the Basset hound in him. He definitely has the elongate body and short legs of the Basset, as well as the crooked front legs. His front Paws aren't huge like Patches, though. Her front paws are clod hoppers!
No, you're probably right about that, Jen.

I seem to be sticking my foot in my mouth lately, Robindog. No offense meant to your Irish wolfhound. I was remembering the mean one in my neighborhood that we were all afraid of, but an individual dog does not represent the breed.
Sorry Sherrie. :(
Sherrie - {{{hugs}}}
Marilyn, your dog does look very similar, and very cute.
Sherrie, sorry about Xena. I sure hope she begins to get better soon.
Hope got a new little pool for Jerry today. He loves it. He's so cute. Oh, and when I got home from work today I looked at Jerry and said to Hope that he looks fatter than usual. She said she didn't know why, as he hadn't eaten that much. Well, turns out he had gotten into the dog food bag. What a piggy! I have to put it where he can't get it. Actually, it was what was left of Patches food, and as she had eaten half of what was in the metal barrel that we keep it in I just emptied the rest into the barrel.

That last photo is especially beautiful...20 years from now, you'll be glad you snapped the shot !
so true.. and I agree.. love the shot.. I still want to see if Eros & Hope will go in the pool... Eros was messing around with the water after the pups grew up and I put it outside.. curious if he will go swim swim
Thanks, you two. Hope took those pics today.

While enjoying your Dad & the pups, I couldn't help notice the irises in the background. I hope dad enjoys the color, dogs aren't gardeners, sigh.
We have to "claim" our moments of joy, where ever we find them...they usually involve nature, and family.
Wonderful photo of the dogs & your Dad, Karen. Rosemary, no offense taken with the wolfie....ours could be very protective.....she loved my DH best, then son...I was a distant 3rd on her list. Everything I've read about the breed says they are not watchdogs, but Nora was......our son was 12 when we got her, & I always felt he was safe with her, no matter where he went......
Often people ask us if Cliffie is a Wolfie, so Wolfies must have sweetness too, because when I look into Cliffie's eye, I sometimes think he's like a Disney Bambi. It's funny--and nice, how love bonds us to our pets.
Happy Birthday Puppies!!!!!!
