NE forum pets #14
I Enjoyed that !
It reminds me of my wonderful german shephard (R.I.P.).
My Irish wolfie grew fast, but not that fast!
Thanks, Marilyn.
Great pic of your kitty, Celeste!
That was cute, Jen.

Bunny Wabbit !
Wow - already! Pets get old fast like kids. Crash is 14 already. Hard to believe. The little ones are three.
amazing how time flys.. little wiggle nose is too cute
Cutie, for a reptile !
Heard they're great sautéed.
They eat a lot of crickets. Daughter in WA state & family adopted the school lizard.
I like crickets!
Weeze, that is a cute lizard. What kind? Is he a bearded dragon? Maybe he could eat the June bug that just got into my bedroom. Don't know how he got in!
We got Jerry today!!!!!! Went up to Concord, NH to pick him up. Ate lunch at the Cracker Barrel on the way up. We love that place, though it was cold in there. They had the AC cranked way up.
Jerry was great in the car on the way home. We stopped at a park in Dorchester to go for a walk. Was a bit hot, though, except when the breeze was blowing. It was a little cloudy, so the heat could have been worse. We also made a stop at Petco to get a few things. Got him a new harness, some training treats, a Kong toy with edible stuff that you squirt into it, a dog gate, a tie out cable and stake, a squeaky toy (like he didn't have enough!). Walked out of the store $160 lighter.
We fed him shortly after getting him home. Got him used to the house and yard. We had him on the tie out cable, but he doesn't like to be there without someone right by him. I was told that he did, but maybe he needs some adjustment time.
Dad and I took him for another walk just after the sun went down. He walks pretty good, but needs a little work. He's learning his boundaries pretty quickly. He's smart! But I don't think he ever gets tired. Don't puppies ever sleep? I figured with all the excitement and new stuff going on for him that he would be exhausted by now. He's been pretty much alert the whole time. He's not hyper at all, but alert. He was quite active on his last walk.
He's on my bed right now and looks like he might actually be asleep. He'll sleep on a dog bed in my room tonight, but tomorrow I'm getting him a crate. He is crate trained, and his last owner said he wanders around the house at night, so he slept in his crate. Tomorrow I'll got to Ocean State Job Lot to get a one. They had one for $55, same kind and size that Petco was charging about $115 for. Oh, and I need baby locks for a few of the lower kitchen cabinets to keep him out of there, about six of them.
Anyhow, he's keeping us on our toes, but we love him. The dog gate is not going to work for us, though. Dad can't get used to it. He threw a tantrum tonight cause he was having trouble with it, so we took it off. Wonder if Petco will take it back.

Welcome, Jerry.
Congrats Karen, im sure after a settling in period Jerry will do just fine!
welcome home Jerry!!!
Karen, so glad you have Jerry....yes, puppies are active...when Doug & I brought home 2 four month old airedales, and I was still teaching, I almost lost my mind! The only saving grace was that they were potty trained...but chew! OMG Rosemary, your dog Cliffie is a beauty...he looks like a labradoodle...sorry about DH!
He's a very handsome boy!
Thanks. We love him up. He smells every flower, and he protects the garden from rodents.
A fellow walks one similar to yours down at our dam...his is smaller, though, a female.
aaaaawwwww Cliffie is a cutie!!!
Gorgeous color!
Two good-lookin' dudes.....lucky you !!!
Wow...Cliffie makes me smile!
Gee, thanks. Aw shucks. What we can't believe is that someone would put this great dog in a high kill shelter, but then that was our good fortune.
looks like he has human eyes.. those kind of dogs always seem too smart.. the doberman at the barn I used to board my horse at was like that.. can almost see him think
My Suey is like that....too smart, & very demanding! Give me dumb and happy any day! That was my elkhound.....
Thanks, guys. Jerry is actually not too, too active. Not hyperactive, anyhow. He's a total sweetie and loves affection. He's settling in nicely. I got him a crate yesterday. He's already crate trained. He went right into it. It's big enough for him to stretch out in. It's one of those collapsible wire crates, so plenty of ventilation. He's learning pretty quick what he can and can't do around here.
Cliffie is adorable! What a gorgeous dog! He looks like a sweetie.
Don't think I mentioned that we found a turkey nesting in our yard under a wild
Rosa multiflora bush. Patches found her Sat. morning and chased her off. I found Patches with 2 eggs, one she was eating. Didn't have time to look for the nest then. When we got home with Jerry and took the dogs out to the yard, Patches led me straight to the nest. Mamma turkey was back, but got chased off again. I found 10 eggs in the nest. I took them out, as I didn't want the turkey nesting here. Patches never would have left her alone and would have eaten the eggs whenever she got the chance, otherwise I wouldn't have minded her nesting here.

About dumb vs. smart dogs. I've had both, and loved the dumb mistakes of my past cocker spaniels. Cliffie is the smartest dog I've ever had. The animal rescue group told me he was the only dog who learned how to break out of their kennel in 10 years, but then he came back. He doesn't want to escape our home, and his big vocabulary is helpful. We can send him to see different family members in the house when we have a mind to. I've called him dogicula because of his amber eyes, but he's actually very soulful. This year he invented a method to drive mice out of their nests so he can catch them in the yard. My cockers only knew how to bark and point. He's proud of his work.
That IS a smart dog! Especially catching the mice outside the house!
Guess we're inhumanely proud of our Cliffie because he didn't have a good childhood, and look at him now! He's better than a flyswatter too. He bites the flies in midair. Its fun to brag about him. As I posted about him he was sitting by me. He has radar for admiration.
I looked over the other pet postings and they are
ALL
wonderful! Go pets!
When we adopted our pointer mix, Suey, she couldn't get used to the electric fence, so my DH & stepson put up a wire fence....while working on it, they locked her onto the porch.....she escaped...curious, they watched her back on the porch, push & shake the screen door until the hook released from the eye.....she was about 18 months at the time.
Escape artists! Good thing they're on OUR side.
Yes....Suey never went anywhere when she escaped...just liked the challenge, I guess.
