Very pretty Stephanie, the B&B salvia is beautiful.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That's not B&B salvia, but a Mealy Blue Sage.

Arlington, TX

OK, after taking a closer look I see it now. It's still pretty.

No one else bothers these plants so I am sure I will get some if not all of the seeds. YVW

watch out for Coral Bean. The sead pots are very poisons. The leaves can also cause diarrea.
I bought it from NHG to use in my outside pets area and I had to return it after I found out of its danger.
It is sure a beautiful plant.

Yes, the Coralbean is very poisonous, I have it also, the seeds don't ripen till fall, but mine doesn't make much seed anyway.

Arlington, TX

Is it easy to find a plant to buy?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

No, I hardly ever see them for sale, they are very slow growing, it takes them about 5 years to get to blooming size. They die to the ground in winter here, but probably no in Houston, they are more common to the east and south east, I will see what I can do for you Cheryl.

These plants are right up against a concrete slab. I don't think I could dig one and move it to my house. I want to find a plant since it takes so long to bloom. Thanks Josephine for letting me know the seeds take so long to ripen.

Here is a picture of one of them that finished blooming and is covered in seeds.

I think yours is a little different from the one I have, but the seeds are ripe when the pod splits open.
They also have a humongous root system, so they are hard to dig up.

I did find one nursery selling them that wasn't too expensive but don't know if I would order this late in the season. Maybe for fall, depending on the shipping costs.

North Haven Garden (www.nhg.com) has the Coral Bean for sale.
A very nice size too. Call them before you go there.
Good luck

Arlington, TX

I have never been there. It's just not my stomping ground I guess. I will check it out though. I hate to order small plants and have to pay a lot for shipping.

OMG !! You never been to NHG ?
It is the best nursery in Dallas. Their education program is amazing !! check out under "events" on their website www.nhg.com
If you go there, make sure you go around teh back to visit their vegetable demonstration garden

Well I am mostly looking for natives and I am not sure they have the most varieties of those but I have heard they have nice plants.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Josephine is it easy to root Coral Beans from cuttings?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Not very easy, but I have done it a few times. When the green parts start to grow, you can take tip cuttings and those can work.

Arlington, TX

It has a such a pretty bloom.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I found one that they say is 1-2 yrs old on the internet for 7.95 but they want 12.95 for shipping. That is way to much for me. newtonsthirdlaw I will try to get some cuttings when the seeds are ready. If I succeed I will let you know. I know it will be a while but looked and found no smaller ones growing.

This is a double pink oleander on the same property as the coral bean.

Sweet Almond Bush, Incense Bush
Aloysia virgata
This one is hard to figure out. I think it just needs watering every day. The leaves curl, turn brown and crackly and fall off. Or they get yellow spots. I'm going to give it a mild dose of acid fert. May end up planting it in a bed. Smells AMAZING! But can cause allergic rash.
