Sandra....I went to school in the late fifties at what was then Irving High....Bowie now....From 1970 to 2003 my children went to Bowie and Nimitz as we lived directly across the street from Bowie in South Irving before retiring to the woods up here.

Great lily and kitty pics! I wouldn't have thought sunflowers would be up at this time of year. You have some happy blooms.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I had a sunflower come up from birdseed and the flowers would follow the sun! Beautiful flowers everyone. I especially love that Hippeastrum Blossom Peacock, the dahlias, hollyhocks (remember seeing them on Colorado along with peonies), and all the lilies. Thanks for sharing. Janet

The sun was going down and caught the light shining through this Datura Jimson Weed, also seed received in native swap.

Started these zinnias from seed I saved two years ago. They've done very well but two of the plants have these little round bud things with no petals on them. Strange but kind of cute in their own way, I guess.

A few pink salvia with the red. Don't know why.

Butterfly bush also received at 2009 Fall Arlington RU. Wish I knew who from. Receiving plants from DG friends brings to mind wonderful memories from the '50s and '60s when my mother, grandmother, aunts, friends and neighbors all shared flower plants because that was about the only way they were available even if they could have afforded to purchase them. The Texas Gardening group recreates a sense of community that is so often missing in modern neighborhoods these days. Thanks to all of you.

It's so fun to know who your plants come from and the fond memories of trading and talking plants at RUs!

You've got some beautiful blooms, Glenna!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Looking great Glenna...love the light through the Datura pic.

The pink salvia looks like it could be Coral nymph which is blooming now at my house.

After 300 or more plants I quit trying to remember who I got what from. LOL! I do remember the 'coral nymph' start I got was from Kim (blue eyes) from College Station RU.

I need to figure out a way to mark the pink salvia right now so I can be sure to get seed from that one. I just wondered if it was possibly a mutation or something of the red salvia. Don't know much about that sort of thing. But I know I want more salvia, both annual and perennial types.

That coral one will reseed like crazy if you let it.

Oooh, that skullcap is so pretty.

My tall Mexican Petunias have not bloomed yet. Maybe because I cut them off to the ground during the winter.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

No blooms here either. I cut mine back also and trying to dig all of them up to share with some with more space. They are pretty but very invasive in their seed sowing!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have them planted along my garage in the little "hell strip" that gets a lot of shade for much of the day. It's kept them contained. That soil there has been greatly amended and they pull out easily.

Cleburne, TX(Zone 8a)

Once or twice a year, I go through and take out all the volunteer Mexican petunias, both dwarf mounding type and the tall ones. I love them because they bloom so in the heat but don't want them out of control. Have been doing the same with Obedient plant recently but they are a lot harder to take out than the Mex. Petunias. Still like them anyway.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The obedient plant is much easier for me to pull up that the petunias....But they do leave a lot of roots and reseed too.
