Here is what I thought I purchased.
Plant Propagation part XXXV based on my own ex
Sharon, I love your pictures, thanks so much for sharing them. The birdies are so cute.
That one with the yellow on is new to me, what is it do you know?
Going to get busy. Dr. appt. today for regular yearly skin check up. Otherwise, I am hoping it stops raining long enough to get the vegetables planted. The plants are in the greenhouse and the tomato plants have blossoms. LOL Hot house tomatoes for sale. With aphids on the side. Actually I am about to call the State for a re-inspection. I think I got rid of the little buggers. I checked about a dozen Aimee babies this morning and could not find anything. Theresa checked some yesterday and she found dead ones. So. hopefully I got them. The big plants outside are cleaner too. I found some live ones on one of the 2 y.o Aimees last night, sprayed them good and hopefully the rain did not wash off the spray.
I thought the yellow and black one looked like the Goldfinch, Washington state bird until I saw the black patch on it's head. What was that all about?
Had a bat in here the other night. I thought maybe putting that metal roof on here might stop them. Might be too hot for them. Guess not.
Well, got a call yesterday that the shoes I ordered are in so have to go down to Spokane to get them today. Bob wants to hit a couple estate sales on the way so better get going. Just what we need, more crap.
My sister told me about getting Culligan soft water bottles. 5 gallon, and using them as cloches for her plants. She told me where to get them, so going to look into that also. Busy day, ttyl
howdy:
well kim is home and doing well after her surgury. they took out a small(i guess itsa) gland. noncancer everything else looked great. evidently the hormone or whatever its called has a half life of seconds so they had to test the blood on the spot.
Her ribs are feeling much better now. its going to take time for the calcium to be replaced in her rib cage. it seems the one thing a malfunctioning parathyroid does is steal calcium from the body. so far there is not a reason or pattern to where or how much but it does it and that not good.
Kim hopes to return to work on monday. i wish I could get her to slow down just a bit.
Sharon I got my boxes today and wow that was a lot of boxes. thank you so much for sending them to me. i will be investigating them on monday/tuesday when Kim has recovered from surgery.
well not much else ready to say. my unknown huge plant turned into a beautiful pinkis flowering dynemo. its been putting flowers on everyday. i love it just its too big for the front of the bed. it must be 5 ft tall.
Have a great weekend
Dave
Amanda: great links and picks. what is pic # DSC02850.JPG I think its monardia or a bee balm but I have no experience with it so I am asking.
I've noticed that the weather has been kind of cool for Las Vegas area Sharon- I'm sure it will be hot enough soon. That is a cool gold bird, I too thought it was a goldfinch at first.
A bat Jnette?! oh no.....hopefully you can see this link. This is from an overpass a couple of miles from my house.

Howdy:
yes i did get to see the new black petunia's and the dark yellow/flat yellow with black stripes they looked the best of the two. well thats saying something because I really don't like the caterpillar's that come with the petunia's so I find some other plant to grow.
Sharon if its not too late I would love some of the iris's if you still have some to spare. is there any plants you are needing? I have the new Pow Wow Wild Berry Echinacea. I bought plugs in when I got all my others in. everyone is doing well. the rising sun coreopsis is doing the best.
I most likely wont be on much this weekend as I will be helping kim as much as possible.
have a great weekend
dave
Hugs to you and Kim, Dave.
Jen, my WBOP has a new leaf.
Talk tomorrow. JB
I am so glad to hear Kim is OK. Yep she needs to slow down a little. Tell her I said so, It is raining so hard today, maybe it will be the end of the world this weekend :) BTW I have the black petunias. Given to me for my birthday--Gift certificate. I love them, we shall see how they do in this stupid weather. Later
I am tired and sore again but I have a van full of old tires, a big pil of rocky soil, a bunch of palm logs and no critical neighbors. In addition this is our best weather and we are blissed out each day that it is cool enough to work.
I got a bag of bones for the dogs while I was in town and they are happy.
Was looking over the arroyo and got a clear picture of how to do the tires wall with the soil that neighbor Tom "never imagined" that I would want. Tony and I really work well together. I have trouble doing a complete plan before beginning. I have to work a little here and a llittle there. Sometimes this means that parts need to be redone but when it's done, it's "permanent."
At the grocery today I saw my neighbor Tim who lives up the hill with his girlfriend Lily. He complimented me on the work that Tony and I are doing. I invited them over for a tour as most of the work can't be seen from the road. When I bought this place several friends were very critical until they saw how big the property is - from the road it doesn't look like much. And that's the way I like it.
My flame tree is starting to bloom. When in town I saw one in full bhloom - they are incredibly beautiful. I also saw a really gorgeous golden colored bouganvilla.
My accidental aviary is going strong each morning when I wake up. While working in the arroyo we can see two hawk's nests on telephone poles to the west. Today there were twelve hawks circling the ayyo to the west. Every so often one flies over my house but there are so many trees and bushes that they don't hang around. Which is probably why the songbirds do.
My right shoulder has joined the chronic pain conspiracy. Noticable mostly when I'm trying to get to sleep. I need to stock up on Benadryl whne I'm in Ca. I'm planning to go up in early June to see Amma when she is in LA.
I hope Kim will take it easy and let herself recover from the surgery. Even "minor" surgery is a trauma to the body. I think a brief "surrender" to the process of recovery is very valuable. Your body will thank you for it.
hugs, katie
Dave - Kim might need to go back to work asap for her sanity's sake. Normalcy is the best thing for folks with that kind of scare.
About the picture - which site was it on? Not sure - those file names just come out of the camera. Let me look and get back to you.
A.
Were falling apart. Amanda may not want to join us, we seem to be contagious, now our spouses are falling apart too. Dave I am glad she is doing ok and it is not cancer, those words must be the best in the English language.
I barely got the first plants in this morning before work, was almost late. Tomorrow will try to get other in. Debating where to put the smelly bulbs. I still have not had time to look them up to see how tall they are etc. but if they will work, I want to plant them in areas near my roses and petunias, to keep critters at Bay. Excited to see how they spread so quickly.
Katie, things are so bad physically that I think you need to slow down a little on all the physical stuff you do until you feel better so you don't end up stopped completely with no choice. You all do a lot for people who have such pain.
I have no idea about the bird. I will post it on Bird ID. It showed up about a week ago. I did not realize it had a black spot until after I took the photo. I have a lens to get me much closer than my eyes can get. I just saw the flash of yellow and it was a larger bird than the normal yellow vermin so I ran and got my camera. I took about 10 photos but this was the only clear one.
The iris will not be ready to be dug until the leaves die down. That should be about one month.
I had visitors today so I did not get much done. I did clean the patio, both sections, filled the bird feeders and deep water some trees. My worker will be here tomorrow so we will get a bunch of work done.
David, all that is in those boxes are pots. I will send the plants later this week. Hopefully by Wednesday because I am trying to leave here on Thursday. Hope to be gone 10 to 12 days.
I am going to the Portland/Vancouver area. Dropping Vern off with his daughter and visiting there for about 3 days then I am going to take the train to Vancouver. The reason being, I want to see all the scenery deep in the canyons of Washington.
rj, the weather has been cool and wonderful. High of mid 70s. Two years ago we were in the 100s first part of April.
I need to get off of here and make some travel plans. Hugs to all. Sharon.
Sharon do you have a laptop you can take along? How long do you plan on your trip taking?
Yup rj, a bat. Boy, you got a lot of them. Well, so do we. They live in a train tunnel about a mile from me all winter and during the day (I think) Maybe in my roof during the summer days and have their babies. I know I had a nursery until I had a new metal roof put on. Now, they may not like it so much. I hope.
I am hoping the cats will discourage them. They are good outside. (the bats)
I just lost all of my tomato plants. Don't know what happened to them, went to a grower today and she suggested they got hit by cold weather. Don't know. They just curled up and turned brown over night. Anyone have a clue?
I bought a dozen plants today to replace them, but kinda hate to put them in the same place the others were. Altho, the others were not planted. I just had them sitting out there in a flat. So the grower was probably right.
Yes, I only use a laptop and I will take it with me.
Oh cool. I must put them in front of the larger, taller garden areas then.
I was just about to buy a bat house!
Good morning everyone,
I'm up and having a cup of coffee. Tony will be here soon and it's back to the arroyo with my new vision.
Some of the pain is due to regaining strength after being pretty much off my feet for months. There's also arthritis in my left knee and, now, my right shoulder and my hands.
It was so bad about two years ago that I was spending far too much time in bed. I talked to my doctor and I've been taking vicodin fairly regularly since. I was worried because I'm a recovering alchoholic and vicodin is not recommended for us. But neither is being bedridden. Anyway, in twenty-five years of sobriety I have gotten to where I am generaly happy enough (can you believe that?) or whatever that I'm able to stay well under the maximum dosage. I've also made an agreement with myself that if I take a pain pill I also get to work - no lying down again.
Tony is here and it's a nice cool day so I'm going to work.
I'll be back when I'm dragging again.
hugs, katie
Morning, All is well here.
Sun is finally shining and since I am going to be one of those "non believers" when the world ends tonight at 6 PM. I will be at the Marina to take over the largest of all houseboats left by one of the "believers" who go directly to heaven. One way for me to finally get another houseboat. As it is, I too need a younger man to maintain the boat, so I am hoping there will be one left for me to grab. My luck, all the young healthy men will be believers. That is hard to imagine. Enough of this crap. Just messing with your heads.
Anyhow, I hope the Preakness Race gets finished before the world ends. I would really be angry if I put a bet on a horse and they never get to finished the race. What an awful way to go. Never knowing if you won the big one. The "non believers" will be on earth for five months suffering.
Had a biopsy done on my sore ear yesterday. Doc said not to worry, he never lost an ear yet. He thinks it is psorisis but wants to be sure. It is a long way from my heart so I am not worried. I did tell him not to remove the ear because my glasses would fall off. He assured me that will not be an option.
Jen, I think maybe your tomato plants just needed to be planted. I have mine in the greenhouse in their original flats and the other day I did not water them (just one day) and the following day they were all wilted. I watered them quickly, now they have blooms. I must plant them today in the mud. They just must go outside.
I think the aphids are about under control. I can not see any on the baby amees in the greenhouse and so I need to call the State for another inspection. In the meantime I would have been permitted to sell the other babies but I decided just to close down everything until I was sure. I may end up putting some items back up for sale tomorrow.
Too much to do today to mess with that. Then again, I just may close down completely.
I have been toying with no longer selling online since there is very little profit and with the way the economy is people are so broke they want much more for their money than they actually can get. I am not giving away two year old plants for 5 dollars. I would rather keep them and watch them grow older. LOL
Sharon. when I purchased Iris from a grower she told me she never separated her plants until six weeks after they bloomed. That is what I usually go by. I will have the large yellow bearded Iris I think I showed you earlier, and when I divide it I will share it with my friends. If you want a couple of them, just dmail me privately. I do not know the proper name of it because it was one of those gifts I got unnamed. GRRRR.
I purchased some Ferovit from Top Tropicals and some Cirkon. Ferovit is a source of Iron. I use another form now, but I am seriously thinking of switching. Do not know if you all need to use this supplement, but if so, you may want to take a look at their website. the Cirkon promotes seed germination also. I want to get some Epin next.
I have taken up far too much of your time already. It is eleven a.m. and time to run to WaWa for a coke and to the Farm Market to BS a few minutes and see what Jersey Fresh fruit they have. It is soon time for Strawberries. Have a great day all you wonderful people. Stay well and have fun. JB
I took this picture as I walked Barney this morning. The baby trees are just flurishing with new growth from the rains. I do hope the ones we replaced this year make it through the winter. We took quite a loss on the damage from the winter's horrible temperatures.
Tony and I worked for a couple of hours undoing a section of the tire fence and alying out tires in accordance with what I envisioned yesterday. It looks like it's going to be perfect. In a rustic way, of course.
We celebrated with fresh orange juice. I'm going to take it easy and cover some of my little seed containers with saran wrap. Copeas are starting to germinate. They should do well here. Was it Jen who suggested them? Anyway I got the seeds from JLHudson and they are starting to pop.
hugs, katie
Katie the rule of thumb for most past drug users or alcoholics having to take opiats was not to take it until the pain was surpassing most other daily pain, no matter how great the pain in general, for one who lives in on going pain. Then the person was still cognizant of how often they took it and it was apt to work on those immense pain bouts more than a daily use, which tends to make people want to up the dose because they are immune to it because of daily use. A lot of them, start out good and then later add alcohol to intesify the vicodin. I have seen many people who are proud of their sobriety use Opiates and other addicting drugs, for pain, and use it with no problem. Most eventually have issues or have to find something non narcotic for pain down the line, or they get taken off of it.
I think you will be fine with the mind set of your past, in the mix all the time. People can not live in ongoing pain without relief or they become so downtrodden they change and age and fail in health.
JB, I went in to Top Tropicals and could not find that stuff you are using. What is it under? The iron stuff.
Jen, Go to www.toptropicals.com then go to their plant catalog and put in the name Ferovit....the entire page will come up showing all three of the items I talked about.
Try again sweetie and get back to me. They will not let me copy and paste the link.
BTW, Foxfire has crashed and I had to remove it from my PC. I used it all the time for facebook and games and I loved it, but when I uploaded the upgrade to 4.0, it would not work on my PC. It works on my laptop, but not the big boy. So, I am using Windows Internet Explorer again on here. PITA
Got some Jersey Strawberries....$4.99 a qt. but, when I walked in after not having been there for a week, they were so glad to see me they gave me two quartst for the price of one. I love those people. LOL But of course, I am good to them. If I am in town and I know they have been too busy for lunch, I will bring them lunch. Kindness works both ways.
Back to work. Still waiting for the ground to dry out. JB
Sharon got the boxes unloaded and wow thank you so much. I will put them to good use. I am planning on dividing up an aster that got huge on me from last year. I planted 3 small starts 2 years ago and took some pups earlier this spring to get some room for everyone else but now I need to make it smaller so I will pot up qts and gallons to sell at a friends nursery/gardencenter.
Katie go ahead and use the pills. as you are aware of the possibilities with addiction and you don't want to go there again you should be ok. just stay away from your addictive of choice. thats how it seems to work.
great news on the strawberries JB. we had a strawberry fest a couple weeks ago in a near by town. well its time for my annual hoseing off...just kidding. got to hot today so I need to hose myself down really good.
so was that 6pm eastern standard or central time? lol
have a good one everyone.
Yeah, I did JB, and just as I was putting in my payment info, I wondered if this was one of those that you have to use up within a short time or it dissipates. But, it never tells you except on the info with the order. So, I decided I would ask you before I ordered it. It is going to cost me $5.55 for shipping of 2 vials for $7.90.
I buy so much of this stuff and then either lose it or don't use it. I have been looking for a week for about $80 worth of stuff I got from Dave's stuff he uses. Can't find it anywhere.
That is too bad about Firefox. I did not have any trouble with it. I really do like it better than ie.
The strawberries sound luscious. That means good. LOL :p)
Just heard my clock strike 3 o'clock. That is PDT. Or 6 o'clock EDT. Are you all ok????
edited to add: Wonder what the old goat's excuse is going to be this time.

I fertilized stuff to day out front. I put my upper back out so bad lifting the watering can and leaning over that I fell to my knees and had a huge spasm, that I liken to a heart attack. OMG!
I did not even do the back yet or the xeric part. I have so many fox tails there, but I don't care enough to go get them now. I don't know what I will do, but it won't be today. They stick in your socks and clothes, shoes and ruin all my clothes. I should just cover them up with black roof paper and put pre-emergant down. Uhg!
I'm here but it's not 6 here. My Nascar driver Face Booked me today. Thanked me for a post I left for him ages ago. He said he wanted to race but the world was ending today. giggle.
Dawn, are you ok? Lie down for a while. Then see if you can work any kinks out. Or is it a pulled muscle?
I don't know how to get rid of the fox tails. Haven't seen any of those since I was a kid in Northern Idaho. They really did get in everything you wore. Don't remember anyone trying to eradicate them tho.
Yes they would have been worse but I sprayed and put down pre-emergent early in the winter. Man, I thought it was some kind of wild grass, so I left some of it. My bad.
We cross posted.
I thought it was 6 o'clock eastern time which would be 3 o'clock our time that everything was going to be bellyup. Your message said 3:11.
Wonder if JB is ok? LOL
Yeah but we would have heard by now.
Yes, Jnette it's amazing watching those bats come out at sunset. Something about the overpass underneath is just right for the free tailed bats feet to grip and roost. There are 2 inch grids that they crawl up in.
Sharon, I remember the temperature a couple years ago there. I do weight and balance for some of the flights out of Las Vegas, so have to be familiar with the temperature all the time. That's how I noticed it was so cool there. Usually we are fighting 90's and near 100 by now. The hotter it gets, the longer it takes the airplanes to get off the ground. When it starts hitting 105-115 we have to leave cargo and people behind. The air gets thinner the hotter it gets, and there is less lift.
Spent the day deep watering, our 30 percent chance of rain fled this afternoon. Did the beginning of summer trimming as things are starting to get shaggy already.
This is a clerodendrum Bungei getting ready to bloom. I think they are also called climbing hydrangeas. While they are beautiful, they are the most invasive plant I've ever seen. They will grow under entire driveways to get to the the other side. I pulled one tiny plant out of an alley years ago while walking the dog, and now they are all over the garden.
Hey, my horse lost the Preakness, the World did not end. My Greenhouse hopefully is free of aphids, what the hell else could you expect? I must tell you what happened to me. It is so personal I will only tell it to you here on this forum.
Yesterday I had a biopsy done to my ear. It is very sore and they tell you to take showers, etc. and redress the area for 5 days. This was my first day with it.
Today, we had some very long grass in the big field where the old trees where, so my daughter, who has very bad knees decided to mow. I did not want to see her do it alone because all of her PT for the knees would be shot to hell if she was on that mower for several hours. So I got out there and helped. Those big mowers are nasty and very difficult to drive. Neither she nor I can take too many hours on them. But , her small mower has died and she is left with one of the bigger ones. So, Mother to the rescue and off I went, we mowed for three hours or more, I came in and got in the shower with a surgical glove on my ear. I thought I had it covered very well. When I came out of the shower I noticed blood every where. The glove came off the ear, the bandade came off the ear, the blood began to flow and I was covered with blood and no clothing on, wet as a duck just out of water.
After trying desperately to stop the bleeding ear and nothing worked, I called my daughter's cell phone and she came in and helped me get some clothes on and stop the bleeding. The biopsy is only 1/2 inch in size but the blood thinners I take made it impossible to stop the bleeding from the ear without clothing on and it was not only a mess but we laughed like idiots because it was funny.
Then my daughter went to leave and the parrot would not let her out of the bedroom. He stood there on the floor at the door and flapped his wings and squawked at her. She was so funny. She can handle a nasty stallion, but she is afraid of this little bird. Well, all is well that ends well, and I am fine, she is fine and the bird is back in his cage. Barney watched it all.
What a mess. I am still cleaning up the blood and they went to the grocery store. It has been a funny but productive day. They are such good kids, and we laugh alot.........so all is well and we are all still here. Which I guess means we are not believers because we are still here. Someplace there has been a disaster and for that I am sorry. God bless you all and keep smiling. Enjoy your evening and I will , with the help of God, talk to you all tomorrow. Bleeding ear and all. JB
Tony and I had an equally good time moving soil in the arroyo. We get to laughing when we think of how neighbor Tom is going to react when he returns in six months. Tom had the soil which was to come to my side of the arroyo put in the middle where the first rain would have washed it all down and taken out the tire wall we had started and the garden we were building. I am trying to be charitable about it as Tom has not been here when we're had one of our tropical storms but the potential is pretty obvious and tends to confirm our opinion that he only thinks of what he wants and has no respect for my property or our work. I am considering a tire wall topped with pink plastic flamingoes to greet them when they return.
One of the papayas on the tree I gave Dana is turning yellow. This is very exciting as both her tree and mine have had green papayas on them since last fall.
I'm glad the world didn't end as my mood has really been improving.
hugs, katie
Jeanette what are you having trouble finding? i will try to find it for you. I have been out of the tarantula for abot 3 months and I need it so badly. just have to scape the pennies together to get some.
Have a great evening. JB take care of yourself. head wounds are the worst
Dave
Interesting job you have there rj, are you sure they can get along without you?
You should put that on the forum for climbing hydrangeas. The people (women) on there would be so jealous. Can't get theirs to bloom. Show that to them. If I can copy and paste it to show them would you mind?
Good grief JB, you had quite a day!! It is so good that you can laugh about it with your daughter 'cause otherwise it would be very scary. I can just see that bird. Hilarious.
Well Katie, that would certainly set Tom on his heels wouldn't it? LOL, Hope you get plants rooted and taking off, holding the soil, by the time he gets back.
Dave, remember the blend I bought on ebay? That, humic Acid is it, kelp, etc., Tarantula, and my water soluble Mychorrizae. I had them all in a plastic sack together, used it last on my seedlings, and haven't seen it since. I have very few places in this house for storage, so can't even imagine where they would be.
I will put out an award to whoever finds it. With my cat too.
I can't find my bad of Mychorrizae. I missplaced it. Dang it.
Dawn ~ You put it in the garage!
Well I worked myself to death today but I am still alive. My worker's wife got very ill so they took her to LA. But I hit the garden anyway. I had three plants left that needed planted. Of course, ran into a double root from the African Sumac that was at least 2 inches in diameter.
so I cut the roots, which was a work out and a half and then decided there needed to be another root just about a foot away. I decided to wait on that root until I got back. So I planted the three plants in pots.
Then I took after the bronze colored leaf oxalis. It moved in about 3 weeks ago and if I did not get it out NOW, it would have been everywhere when I got back. Evelyn, I think that is what you have that you think is clover. You are OK with it because you are cooler. Here in the heat it just takes off.
The Black Bamboo is still in the large pot they delivered it in nd I will probably plant it in the holding garden and mail it when I get back., I have way to many thing to do before I leave.
'Good info JB on the LA iris. They are still blooming. Unusually end of June is when we dig here and separate. When I get back my violas will be done. I am going to pull the California poppies before I go. I will save the seed pods. I will have seeds coming out my ears.
JB, I have had a few things burned off my nose. I check my nose all the time because I knew a Realtor that lost her nose due to cancer. It was not pretty. Where her nose used to be was a bandage over the two holes on her face with no nose. I actually saw an Asian woman in San Francisco with the same thing.
Well I have changed my trip again. I had in my mind that all of Washington was beautiful. My daughter-in-law called me this morning and said the ride between Spokane and Seattle is desert. So I am flying from Spokane to Seattle and then taking the train to Vancouver, WA.
They thought I was trying to save money. I told them No Way. I just do not travel much because I enjoy being home and I wanted to see behind the scenes from the train.
When I was with Chase, I was either in New jersey or New York every quarter. After 25 years of that, I actually did not go to the last two leader's club because i just wanted to stay home. Leader's Club was for top producers and top 5 in profit. I was always there on both. But Chase got to big and I did not like being a number instead of Mother Winter. No 1 in profit 3 years in a row and all they wanted to know was how much more we were going to do the next year. My staff was already just about brain dead from all their hard work and they wanted more. And then they always made us the Beta group for all new computer and program upgrades. And then their IT stupidity would shut us down for two to three days.
The last computer processing upgrade shut us down and shut me down at the same time. I went on medical leave in November and retired in July.
JB, you are a hoot. My dad always had things cut off his ears. No hair and too much sun. You need to grow your hair longer. And you need to stay off that growing mower.
I have several friends that grow specific plants for sale. They say, no one is buying anything. And like you said, if they are, they want it cheap.
Katie, good that you are feeling better. It is mind over pain. I was working so hard today to get those two roots out, I thought to myself, "Well if I was going to have a heart attach, I would be having it now". I was in such a tizzy, I had sweat running down my forehead, into my eyes, onto my glasses and I still did not quit. I am like JB, a stubborn ol' broad. But I did quit twice. Sat down, took five and then started again. I did that twice. But I did succeed. I started in the garden at 10am and stopped at 6:30pm. High was 83 and I had on a light sweat shirt.
I am glad you are still here.
I was reading as NY Times article about the snow pack in the West on Facebook and what could and what may happen. You all need to pray for the West to have a cooler June or there is going to be a lot of flooding.
I found three very small trees growing under one of my palms in the baby tears. I was there, in a raised bed, on my knees, getting out the bronze oxalis. I think they are Japanese Blueberries. There is a very large one just about 8 feet away. They are about 10 inches tall with 3 leaves.
I will return tomorrow. Sorry. Later, Sharon.
