Allison, let me know how you like that heliotrope, I was looking to get one that wasn't purple

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

didn't have luck with my seed grown ones.. but had to try anyway

Thomaston, CT

Allison, I really like that golden-leafed pineapple sage....let me know how large it gets.....went to one of my fav small nurseries today...he's out of business, place is up for sale, greenhouses are dismantled :>(.....I always got very unusual salvias from him.....I'm bummed....

I don't remember what thread I mentioned clematis wilt on, but I thought it was an odd wilt because most of it looked healthy. I found out why today, there was a bunny nest at the base of it which my dog got all the babies from this afternoon and left them strewn about the yard.

I am just back from a trip to the west coast, where I purchased a few plants that are not available locally and I just "had" to have. I took to a UPS store on my way to the airport, and 3-day air, which was my intent, was going to be $60! So I opted for surface instead, which is 7 days. I didn't think about the fact the midwest is in a heat wave, with my poor plastic-wrapped plants suffocating and probably growing fungus. They are due to arrive on Tuesday. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed, GG....Oh, Debi...how awful! Dogs are hunters, just like the kitties.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

good luck granite

debi i still remember my brother with his pet guinea pigs - some how the dogs smelled them and got them all after my brother has let them run around the yard - nature

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I will TRY and remember RD... I potted it up in one of my deck rail planters.. I suspect it won't be too massive in there.. but I wanted to see it

:)

Thanks, Allison!

GG, I hope your plants will be arrive without mildew.

My Patches would kill any and all baby bunnies she finds in a nest.

Bill, we had pet guinea pigs when I was growing up. One summer we put them in the cellar, as the house was so hot and we had no a/c. They were in a cage that was open at the top. Anyhow, a neighbors dog got down there, as the bulkhead door was open. He killed all of them. We were so upset.

Said I wasn't gonna spend anymore on plants, but I guess I lied. I ended up going and buying more annuals after having filled all my annual planters and decided I needed more, as they weren't all filled. I got a bunch of dahlias, a dark sweet potato vine and ended up getting a white climbing rose with gorgeous, big blooms. I'm still looking for Elfin Blue impatiens for the front shade bed.

Last week I got a shipment of about 15 daylilies from Bluedridge Daylilies in NC. You would not believe the amount of bonus plants he sent me, 12 in all. I have not had a chance to look them up to see what I got. The box was huge, and all the plants were really big. I'm just tickled to death!

I didn't know Patches would be like that.. so laid back!!.. can't wait to see pictures Karen!!.. esp that elfin blue if you get it

Bought a Super Mammoth Aroid and 5 Cananna (sp). A 10' hose and spray nozzel. I have had 3 spray nozzels go poof in the last 2 years. Cheap things.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, they always do. Very irritating.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

same with sprinkler heads!

Thomaston, CT

Karen, that rose sounds like a beauty.....name, & a photo if you can.......

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

Glad I"m not the only one whose hose nozzles give up. Got my package from the west coast at last. One plant lost all its leaves, so waiting to see before that one gets a picture, but this Cryptomeria japonica (Ryokogu Coyokyu) seemed none the worse for wear.

Marilyn, I will try and photograph the rose tomorrow and check the name. Allison, will take pics of my planters on the weekend. They looks sparse so far. Will look better by the end of the month. Maybe will get a chance to get some Elfin Blue impatiens this weekend.

Sprinklers and nozzles, like so many other things these days, are just not made to last. Probably most are made in China.

Love that Cryptomeria, GG!

Karan, and Wha agree, Piece O'Crap, all of them. We are in search of some new sprinklers and have one which we bought a couple of years ago that seems better than the others, so DH is hunting for another one like it on line. It either came from Agway or OSJL. But it isn't what I would call great, but it has worked for a couple of years which is almost historic.

That tall expensive tripod sprinkler lasted one year before the hose connector part broke off. DH attached a new hose end on with hose clamps so we can use it, but it was used only during the summer and stored for the winter but it broke off the first day we went to use it this season. More than annoying.

I am happy with my current two watering wands with its various settings and they were cheap so I don't care if I only get a couple of years out of them. I do like the cheap super light weight OSJL plastic rakes that come in various width. They seem to last better than the bamboo ones, even in Vt where they get a real workout. I bought a cute narrow one recently for around 5.00 and have been using it daily in the veggie bed, but thought I bought it for use in the fall in the perennial beds as I don't like my really narrow metal one that I have had for years. Still good, but too narrow for many jobs.

Bought a few annuals and a couple veggies starts along with a 6" bay leaf tree start as well as some lime thyme and coriander yesterday so I think I am done until things go on sale later in the summer. I have one more old coop order with some hellebore plugs still supposedly coming, but I am assuming they might fry in transit. I have a few plugs, pulmonary, heuchera, and ferns that arrived on Monday that were in very sad shape and bone dry that I am trying to resurrect. Dumb of me to do a plant coop that ships in June. Patti

I would like a bay leaf tree

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

It was about 7.00 or more than a dollar an inch, but it already has a bunch of leaves on it. I had the last one for a few years and it was doing nicely, and then up and suddenly died. I think I might have over watered it. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Fresh bay leaves are wonderful! Really like that shrub, GG....my hose nozzle is on year 3....keeping my fingers crossed....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti remember i have a ripod sprinkler here for you that i do not use - also a patti's plum hardy hibiscus, and .....................:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My second year with the tall tripod I bought from Lee Valley. So far, no problems.

Went to Lowe's today to pick up an electric grill, and just happened to walk into the plant section.....Dream Queen was only $4.00....had to come home with me.....

Victor, we should have gone to Lee Valley, because the one we got was a POC.

Wha, I do remember and must get over to see you. I just keep getting hung up on the weekends when you might be home. I will get there at some point.

Today was just watering and tiding up. We had serious garden visitors this afternoon which was delightful. They really got it. We strolled about with a glass of wine and enjoyed only what real in the dirt gardeners understand and appreciate. I was so happy to have their feedback. They have a wonderful woodland garden that they have carved out of nothing over many years, so I can't wait to see it again after a few years of not visiting it. I will take pictures and post them when we get the invitation.

Tonight we ate more from the garden, and shared a mess of greens with our visitors too. I also dug them a nice clump of ligularia that they didn't have. It turn out that one of them taught pottery 40 years ago, so he was interested in my pottery too. Fun afternoon.

Before our afternoon visitors DH turn off the endless stream and dug down to the vault that hold the pump and did some cleaning up of all the rocks of all the silt and now it is running much better. The dogs and the birds were not happy with the lack of water for a few hours, but all back to normal now.

Watching the NYY and Red Sox game, all is right with the world. 7-1 Patti

I was at Lowes too, killing time and I got 2 hosta and a gerber daisy (quarts) for $1.00 each. The hostas have a couple of scorched leaves but the daisy is fabulous and has 3 new buds.

They also had flower carper roses for $3.00.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I do like that 'Dream Queen' Robin!
Patti looking forward to the pictures, sounds like a lovely place. Envious of your garden greens. :)
I love G.Daisy's but they never like it here for some reason. That is one plant I manage to kill each time I bring it home. :(

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)
