Allison, that is one cool looking Coleus
Spending spree pt #6
thanks Jen.. it does look a bit sad now.. but you know I had to have it.. my guess is they hardened off too soon.. but keeping my fingers crossed
Well, I got my Brown's Ferry Gardens daylily order the other day. They look great. I sent them an email them though, as I didn't get any of the daylilies I had chosen for bonuses. They sent ones that are nice, but not ones I would have chosen. I had sent them an email with my list of choices, but I never did get a response from them acknowledging that they received it and would try and accommodate me. The ones they chose were ones they sell for $30 each! If I can't get any of the ones I had put on my list, then I will just trade my bonuses with someone.
Today I went to 3 different garden centers. I brought home 3 pots of perennials. I got 'Hot Papaya' echi, as well as 'Fatal Attraction' echi. I'm drawing a blank on the 3rd one. Oh, and I got a very small pot of a scabiosa. I got a bunch of annuals, too, though I'm wondering if we'll ever get good weather for planting. Looks like the next 7 days will all be rainy ones.
GG, those evergreens from Songsparrow look great!
Allison, hope your coleus perks up soon.
Jen, that was a nice haul from the RU. Who was having a RU? I didn't even know about it, or else I might have gone.
BTW, I'm going to have my RU on July 17th for anyone who is interested in coming. Have not had a chance to post it officially yet, but I'll get that done soon.
Karen
Sounds like a good day Karen.
Received my last jm today from Topiary Gardens - Acer p Murakumo for an afternoon shade area - it is as tall as me
Pic?
ooooooohhhhhhhhhh I wouldn't be able to walk by that either!!!!!!!!!!!!.. nice pick!!!!!
sorry Karen I would have answered you.. but I am out of it.. now I will.. we went to a swap at Roses-R-Red's house in PA.. a mid atlantic one
oh and Sunday would be tough for me.. work the next day and all after a long drive.. but I added it to my calendar just in case
Oh, pretty hydrangea!
Oh, okay, Allison. Jen made a typo and wrote MA. PA would have been too far for me.
Karen
I think Jen's MA was MidAtlantic......so it was MARUinPA :)
bought a few from B&B.. 1/2 price sale

i'll get a picture after it is planted this weekend - the sensu from davidsans too.
Nice Allison......I have to get one of those gold bleeding hearts.
I have one.. and love love love it.. now we will have 3
:)
Great choices, Allison. I don't have that gold bleeding heart yet, but would love to get one.
Oh, my bad, Weeze! Didn't understand. Makes sense now.
Karen
Thanks Weeze for clarifying that. Yes MA is this case was MidAtlantic
Louise was trying to plan a RU for July 16th, so you guys might want to flip a coin.
Love that bleeding heart, Allison
Beautiful hydrangea, Weeze
Oh, my. I will have to rethink my date for the RU. I wanted it for the peak daylily bloom. Maybe in the beginning of Aug. instead, as there are still a lot of blooms then. Either that or early July. What do you guys think?
Karen
Allison, I love the shooting star.....cannot order any more woodland plants until I clean up the area, & I just can't dig through the matted soil! Very discouraging....I think I will have son rototill it first, then try to get rid of the roots in there......
I always buy plants from park seed every year.. the 6 packs fit my bloom master planters perfectly.. and always know there are some losses or bum plants... just got my order shipped today.. and all I can say (and never thought I would say these words together) BRAVO PARK SEED.... BRAVO!!!!.. the improvement in shipping is fantastic!!!! all the plants arrived perfectly!!!!

and I am sooooooo in love with the fuchsia in the first plant photo!!!!
I got an order from Annie's and David Austin last week. I get a dozen rose from Chamblee's this week and the mother load from Graceful Gardens the week after. That is not including the plant hardening off on the front porch.
I have to be done with the bulk then I sneak things in when hubby is at work.
nice!!!!
lol @ sneaking things in !
I bought 8 different varieties of tomatoes, & 2 peppers at WFF's Tomatomania....it was mobbed...lots of NY & MA cars.....the ones I never tried before are Painted Ukranian, Sandul Moldovan, Stupice, Pierce's Pride, & St. Pierre....also found Ramapo, which I love & have not been able to find for years....also bought Cherokee Purple & Brandywine.....
love trying news ones I never had.. nice haul!!!
Nice, Marilyn! Let us know how those new varieties do for you. I really liked the Parks Wonder tomatoes last year, but can't find them yet. Today my order from Audubon Workshop came and I spent the very buggy afternoon getting most in the ground. I'm trying Keys of Heaven, red penstemons, white obedient plants, several low-growing phlox for fall, a bi-color (orange and purple) buddleia, some pink lace short monarda and a South Seas daylily. Most are filling in around my daylilies in the new and improved stone wall garden. oooh, I almost forgot, I bought the Madeline salvia (delph blue and white bi-color). When I was digging the hole for one of the obedient plants, I hit something hard and dug up a really neat metal artifact that is over 100 years old at least. It was in the area where the first building on the property was built in 1763. We haven't figured out what it is yet, but it will be on display in that garden at our July RU. WE may have a contest to name what it is. I also dug up a very old hook and eye door latch, which would have probably come from the door that was near that area. It's always fun to dig around here. Lots of treasures in the dirt.
Anyone get the e-mail from Garden Crossings about the free plant?
I had 8 Hino Crimson azeleas that I put in last year and every one died. I dug out the receipt and got a $200 credit at the garden center today. Bought my annuals and a clematis I have been wanting. I was so cool to walk around and load a cart and NOT have to really pay for it (my logic)
The garden center didn't bat an eye at the cell phone pics of dead azalea and told me last year was bad for azaleas and I wasn't the only one who lost all I planted.
I also picked up Blushing Bride Hydrangea at Walmart. They were $15 and looked excellent. I was shocked.
I brought home a truck-load from Allison's and lots of shippments came while I was away. I may be M.I.A. for another 5 days! LOL
Daylilies, petunias, Blackberry Punch Calibrachoa , foxglove, delphinium, Hydrangea Invincible Spirit, Hydrangea a. 'Pink Pincushion',
Martagon Lily 'Mrs. Backhouse', Veronica 'Crater Lake' Blue, Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue', Primula capitata 'Salvana', Heuchera 'Silver Veil', Perilla, Fantasy, Dinnerplate Dahlia Babylon Purple, Biltmore Estate Dahlia Edge of Joy
Hosta's:
Sweet Home Chicago'
'Precious Metal'
'Twist of Lime'
'Pineapple Upsidedown Cake'
Good Grief!
HOLEY MOLEY!!!!
looks like we are about even with the planting we need to do.. LOL
BR sorry to hear about your azaleas.. always heartbreaking.. but cool that you went shopping!!
Nice haul, Celeste!
I got some annuals from Michel's today. They were in rough shape - soil everywhere and lots of damage. I think they will recover, but it was still disappointing that they didn't fare well.
Holy Cannoli, Celeste....you got some diggin to do ;)
always so heartbreaking opening a box like that Songs.. sorry
Think I'll be digging straight thru till June!
Must be a bad year for shipping, some of mine were tipped and soil out but plants looked pretty good considering.
I was surprised that the Audubon Workshop plants arrived in good condition. I wasn't sure what to expect from them. Their packaging was good and the plants were nice. They owe me four more that should arrive next week.
Celeste - that's a nice haul you'll be planting!! We're turning attention to the veggie garden tomorrow (after we head over to Davis Brook Daylilies today...lol (I mean, let's get our priorities straight!) ) We have to tear out all the old fencing that the critters just step over and don't even break a toenail, then rototill, then put up a different green fence.
BR - glad the garden center stepped up for you! It almost doubles the fun of shopping! :)
What's the minimum on the GC offer??
Happy Rapture Day......you all can spend the extra time on this planet planting.....what a lovely selection of plants, ladies......what penstemon did you get, Louise?
