He sounds like a character....my Dad was the same way.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

he worked the customer counter at ups for years and years.. everyone always said he was such a joy .. always happy and calling the guys names like mogambo .. or nephew... and flirting with the ladies ... I always knew if I was in trouble or needed money to go to his work and ask or tell him... he wouldn't yell at me in front of people.. LOL

Wow! With a catch of 93.4 million pounds it sounds as though they'll be ready with lobster rolls for us this year!

Personally, I don't trust people who don't love Maine, Celeste!

I'm already putting on my lobstah bib....

Hey, Harp, good to hear from you.....my late husband's niece, from NH, lives in those Bean's boots...great for dog walking! Louise, that bird house looks perfect, & you're lucky to get a chickadee......tufted titmice seem to drive the chicks away from here.....

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

but the titmice are cuter!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I think they're both nice. ☺

I vote for the titmice, too, debi.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like chicks and tits.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

of course you do

Thomaston, CT

Victor! You make bird-watching a whole new experience....saw several nice birds today.....redstart, common yellowthroat, veery, something I couldn't ID...more green than yellow, black on face....now I hear an oriole!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Marilyn - I would have been happy with a titmouse as well. I like them a lot but we don't seem to have many here. You wouldn't believe the flicker that is obsessed with pecking away at our metal garbage can. He wakes me up every morning and I caught him in the act when he started up again mid-morning while I was working outside. He's nuts! I don't know what he thinks he's doing.

Nice shot of the titmice, WC!

Harper, I love those boots, and the rain skimmers too.

Pirl - I agree with you about Maine. After all, look at the cool people who live there :)

Victor - the audacity......!!!! lol

The garden has more fragrance now than I can ever remember. Viburnums, multiple lilacs, daphne and a few things I cannot source.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Mine smells really good just from the Korean Spice Viburnum. The lilacs are just starting to open now. Yum.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I need more scents

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Harper! Happy Mother's Day!!!
I can't wait for lilacs and a nice soft breeze to go with them!!!!!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Happy Mother's day to all the moms out there!!!

Thomaston, CT

Yes, and to those who want to be Moms, too!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

have missed this tread the past few days - birdhouse looks nice louise.

I think I had a stomach virus. 4 days. A little tender but better. Saturday was pure torture.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

feel better Sherrie... my neighbor had something similar as well

Thanks - I am better. Trust me, you dont want it. Jim had it for a week.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, yeah....had that in Feb.!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ask and you shall receive...I was over my neighbors and wanted to know what smelled so good...He goes "lilac?" I'm like "no that's not it" Oh! Mock orange. "oh really !!! I've always wanted one" says I...he goes "there's a few a of them...come on over and dig one up".... OH YEAH!!!!!

East Bridgewater, MA

Ages ago, in the 1960's, my mom would drive me to the dentist, and we would sit outside in the car, with the windows rolled down.

I was deeply calmed by the fragrance of the shrub close by...Mock Orange...

....a forever favorite...exquisitely under-rated !!!

As I walked up a walk toward a house on Sunday, I smelled a heavenly scent (which is saying a lot- cuz if I can smell something it is very fragrant) Turns out is was a white wisteria. Just heavenly and it was ABUZZ with activity. :)

Later in the afternoon I went to a niece's house and her daughter, who happens to have T21, Emma Sage, had spent the morning painting her own lemonade stand a beautiful pink. It used to be her brother Otto's 10 years ago. They live on a narrow country road in Califon, NJ which doesn't get a lot of traffic, but on Sunday it was very busy. Her dear Momma ( my niece) had posted on facebook that Emma's lemonade stand with freshly baked cranberry, pecan cookies was open at 3 pm. I got there about 4:30 and it was pretty busy. One car came back 3 times. Price posted was $.25. Needless to say nobody just gave her a quarter. Any change she did get went into a 'rice bowl' for a children's charity. By the end of the evening (people even stopped as we ate dinner outside), she had a wad of bills - total $28.00 She was thrilled, especially since Monday was her 10th birthday. So cute!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

How nice was that Jan?!!! Good for her!!!!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

People wanted to know when she would be open the next time. The power of the internet is something else. Word will spread quickly. She may paint some rocks, too, like her sisters did. Very entrepreneurial!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good training for the real world!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I love Califon!
Great job!

OK I am infested with ants. The lawn is loaded and then I picked up a pot in the GH and they had built a nest. They went to grab all the eggs I picked up the tray and ran like a deer being chased by a hunter. I got them 100 or 200 feet from the GH before they started crawling all over me and had to set the tray down.

Not quite sure what to do. They are the little sugar ants. Red but not the biting ones. Any suggestions?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

For a quick fix, they hate pepper....black and or red.
