Both are so gorgeous, Louise!

(Debra) Garland, TX

Just got a Daniel Deronda. Trying to decide where to put it. That photo makes me want instant-maturity magic dust. :-)

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow, Kiseta, too bad they didn't get a license plate number. That's terrible!

Love the clems all shiny with rain! Beautiful intense colors!

lovemyhouse - I want some of that instant maturity dust!

Thomaston, CT

Wonderful color on those clems, Weeze....I've had bags of mulch sitting on the front lawn all week.....still there!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Marilyn - Yesterday at Walmart I bought a white (leaning towards lilac) clematis but none of the labels had names except for "Clematis". I think mine might be Claire de Lune/Blue Moon. Did yours have a sign with the name? Thanks for a great lead!

Here's the Walmart one on the left and my own Claire de Lune on the lower right. They both have the tell-tale very wavy edge so I'm guessing I now have two of them! That's fine with me.

Thanks, I waited quite awhile for Daniel to bloom. He's in a lot of shade.

That looks like a match Pirl. What a pretty bloom!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Louise. Lots of buds here but not too many blooms yet and the camera is acting up again.

What a stunning garden

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi everybody, I have watered last night and noticed that my Arctic Queen is looking kind of pale, the leaves are much lighter green then the other ones. It stoped growing, has a bud on it, but kind of looking sick. I have used all the same stuff when I planted it, have a brocken flower pot over the roots . So I don't know if this is normal?? It is in full sun all day, maybe to much for it??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Gorgeous garden and plants, Michigan! Welcome to the Clematis talk.

Kiseta - someone else is having this problem on another clem thread and we're waiting for help. It's not a case of too much sun. If I find any help in the meantime I will post it here. I wouldn't water it or try to feed it anything until we find out more about the cause.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Kiseta - here's one answer I just found via Google, from our own Jeanne:

Your clematis "Nelly Moser" is very pretty...yellowing leaves can be too much water or if they have yellow streaks in the leaves can be lack of Magnesium..Magnesium is easy to rectify by mixing 2 tbs. of Epsom Salts with a pint of water and pour around the clematis and water in well...Jeanne

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Pirl, I will try a little epsom salt, and maybe I have been watering to much, it have been in the 90 is for a week. I water manualy, so it is hard to tell if they getting to much. Thanks again. Do you know anything about the Daniel Deronda, if it can get partal sun or full sun, My son and grandson are named Daniel and I tought it would be nice to have one.

Daniel Deronda: http://www.gardenvines.com/shop/large-flowered-clematis-3/clematis-daniel-deronda-73.html

What kind of mulch are you using for your clematis with the yellow leaves?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

I had some pine straw from the neighbors yard, not to much, also I have a brocken flowerpot over the root system.

Dayton, OH

All of your Clematis's are so beautiful, mine finally started blooming this week. I've had this for about 4 year's in a pot, planted it last year. Don't know what kind it is, but it flowers twice a year.

Kiseta - the purpose of mulch is to keep the earth at a more constant temperature - like insulation. It's highly doubtful you can use too much. Two to three inches would be fine.

Beautiful by any name, Roseycats! Glorious color!

Dayton, OH

Thanks Pirl

Thomaston, CT

Great looking clem from Walmart's, Pirl...the ones I saw were all labeled with names, but none were blooming....healthy looking though. I still have not gotten back there....maybe this week....

(Debra) Garland, TX

michigan, those are gorgeous. i planted one last fall, had a little nub in march (which died down) and nothing since. read that sometimes a clem can take a year or two to come up, so i'm not giving up on it just yet, especially after seeing your photo. :-)

This is Fujimisume. A unique blue . It looks to be a good grower.

Pirl I followed you over here , I was hoping some one can give me the name of a nice yellow clematice ,I would like to try my hand at one. I have a white one and a I President , I cant believe how good the president is doing this year. Is there a certain time you should plant them?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Fjuimisume is so beautiful, John!

Tammy - a potted clematis can be planted at any time but many of us order during winter for spring planting. There aren't many yellow clematises but you can check the usual sites...Brushwood, Donahue's, Joy Creek, etc.

Last year I bought Tibetana (a yellow) from Brushwood. The vine got to 6' and had many stems by fall. When it flowers I'll post photos. Here's Brushwood's photo of it.

I've never seen a yellow large flowered clematis.

The fujimisume is such a pretty color...it would look nice with that yellow one! I went back to Walmart's today, & bought a nice looking Ms. Bateman.....now I have to figure out where to put it.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Marilyn, you've hit upon a common clematis conundrum! Where will I put it??

John, you're Fujimisume is a delicious shade of blue!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

lovely

Louisville, KY

It's in full bloom now. most of the others have finished...I do like it.

Shirley, IN

My neighbor told me that on the clematis you should cut them all back in the fall so you will have more growth and blooms in the spring, how far back do you cut them? down to the ground? this is my second year with them and I only have two planted now I am planting a third that I grew from seed it would just be getting its start do I need to cut it back also?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Clematises are divided into classes/groups/types according to their pruning needs.

http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles/clematis-pruning-guide.aspx

What is the name of your clematis, or the time it blooms?

Do not follow the advice of your neighbor to cut them to the ground until you know which one you have. Just an example: the "montana" class should not be cut to the ground so find out what you have before you do any pruning.

Tammy

I would also wait until spring to cut back your clems. Cutting back in the fall will spur new growth that the weather is going to kill..... Generally type 3 clematis are cut back about the time time the forsythia start to flower. If you don't like looking at the brown, dead vines all winter, I would wait until after Christmas to cut back your type 3's.

Shirley, IN

They web site you provided was wonderful I know that my president is a #2 or repeat bloomer my guernsey cream is a #2 also but the one I am planting from the seed I started I have no idea I dont even know what it looks like or when it blooms all I know is the lady who gave me the seeds said it was a yellow clematis . but it has grown nicely in my window and is large enough to plant now.

Shirley, IN

I would like to get a few more clematis I would like a blue one if there is such a thing but the ones I have seen on line and in pictures look more purple. Is there a blue variety out there?

Athens, PA

Tammy

how long did it take to germinate? I am thinking that odds are it is a Radar Love - which is a type 3.

Taylorsville, KY

This is my second spring for Durandi and it is sold as blue. For me it's a rich, deep deep royal purpleyblue and I'm in love with it. The only thing, it doesn't "cling" so you have to let it drape or attach it to it's support. I would love to have this to cascade down a rock wall and may try to design something like that. Last year, the bloom cycle didn't last all tha long but I have my more blooms already this year and buds setting so I'm hoping it will bloom longer. It has nice big leaves too.

This is where I got mine and I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera....

(Anita) Fort Wayne, IN(Zone 6a)

That is a beautiful clematis!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Tammy - many clematis proclaim to be blue but they're more on the side of light lavender. I hope my Still Waters stays as blue (?) as it bloomed indoors but there's no guarantee.

Other blue ones are Blue Light, Will Goodwin, H.F. Young, Crystal Fountain, and probably 20 more than I can't think of right now. Just Google "images" for any of the names to see photos and check Plant Files (always).
