never seen / heard of forsythia (except on Betty's blog of course) but Spirea... YES - we do have that here... Hubs won't let me plant one.... YET... LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Must tell you I'm more than envious seeing thoSe shrubs..think I said that before didn't I? My forsythias are also in bloom right now, a few are about 3 or 4,not a lot of bulk to them yet, just too bad their glory doesn't last long..I've got 2 bridal wreaths near the pond, think I have to move them..I would say I've about 49 shrubs but since they've only been planted for four or five years so I guess I have to show patience (which you know I've plenty) lol and let mother nature do her thing!

Mary looking forward to seeing your daylilly..bet if we planted all have to find a community plot somewhere for space
Laying here with Missy purring on the pillow next to my head and sailor on the floor next to me snoring away while I watch a documentary on the civil war..right now I'm where Grant has written his memoirs..

Sunday night was up watching going on re Osama , last night our elections and now civil war, must try to get some sleep..Ann didn't make it last night , guess my mind is with her and also with Shirley... Need sleep! Been fun though on the midnight shift with you all

Verona, ON

~~~~~~ everyone. Still up, but no power so I couldn't join the night crew.
Power is still spotty so I will take advantage while it is on a attempt to run a load of dishes and dry some clothes.
Rain again all day today Wed. Mary I am going for my walk about 7 am this morning so will be looking for you. The trilliums are out in full force and such a gorgeous sight to see!
Dianne
Victoria Harbour, ON
Dianne, didn't realize storms did so much damage your way., imagine hydro work main areas before attempting rural areas? You'll be so glad to get back into a routine..Frankie says we will see a bit of su shine today but cool, still saying wet Mothers Day..guess my boys will be working outside in the rain to do the l projects I have on my list.. How is hubby doing?
Off to make coffee, might wait outside to enjoy!
Victoria Harbour, ON
quick run outside, not even sure if photo is focused, but this is the size of my forsythia's ..now you must tell me the age of yours so I know how many more gardening years I have to do before I see beauty such as yours..
Bernice who has lovely gardens and lives down the street tells me when she comes over how amazed at what I've accomplished in 5 years but to me I want mature gardens NOW..guess that's where my patience comes in right
morning. soldier boy is on a plane, for some r & r 15 days !!! sailor has only 5 days left home, leaves early morning of the 9th. #3 son starts his job today!!! I have the early shift today, then 4 days off, going to get that quilt finished for the sailor...it is almost done!! just a little more quilting, and a few more pieces to put together for the binding......got to get to the post office to mail out some swap blocks, running late with them...thankfully every one is very understanding, sending book from Mary to Judy, and sending a package to granddaughter.... 4 days off, might get a little time out in the yard...sure needs spring clean up still.....
Y'all have a wonderful day !!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Sounds as though you are on a high Thunder!! So nice to see..pleased that things are going your way! Exciting for sure..
Kris, thinking you as well..
Holly, it's been three days in a row that breakfast television has mentioned motorcycle accidents, a few fatal, do be careful! The driver in this one seems to be ok!!
Funny how when you get all done that needs done before heading out for the day you go through you dg friends , knowing their low's and hi's
And you think of their needs and wish them well...Bev, need my daily photo fix!!
Ann called, she spent the night before last after calling me with mike in palliative care as she was doing last night so both are in need of prayers
Omg, a 19 year old won a seat during our elect s, he was going to work a part time job this summer but will be earning just over $100K ..now that is amazing.
Wondering if Judy got locked in her greenhouse?
Don't remember Liz if I said how wonderful it was to see you post the other day..do miss you! Big hug for Kenny..how's grannie?
Packed up a craft bag to entertain myself today..so much scratch paper laying around the office that I thought I'd get a box of envelopes and make some stationary just using stroke work, been years since I've done it..when grandma was in a home I'd do them up for seniors homes..could always start doing some for, ok won't say the word, that celebration held in Christmas. Lol
still have almost an hour to fill before Suzanne picks me up for work this morning so might have breakfast and get all my sewing gear out now that the girls won't be back for crafts for the rest of the week..
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Morning everyone! Betty, looks like you did not get much sleep! Please tell Ann we are sending lots of prayers for them, and ((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))).
Coffee is on, sounds like some of you will need it!
Thunder, so glad to hear your son starts work today? Where is he working?
It is going to be another nice day here today! 51 right now. Only supposed to be high of 80. Sun is coming up, and it is so pretty. Nice pink color in the sky!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Suzanne showed up late, difficult for her to move around so we rushed in, no coffee for me so thanks LindaKay will enjoy yours..
Now that's a perfect day..you'll be able to do a bit in the yard, however, with fingers such as they are you'd best not do too much..can you splint them so when you are active you'll not bump them?
Lexington Park, MD
Goodmorning to all.
Wow computer is fixed and it did not costs us and $.
LK I think you should send that DR a bill for your services. Hope it soes not take long to get into see the specialist.
Thunder so good to hear your son got a job after trying for so long. Hope he enjoys what he is going to be doing.
Betty you can paint the wooden pieces and then sell them for cruise money.
Wall is repaired from where DD1 fell.
Window leaking on the 2nd floor to be repaired today.
Kids out of school early so will try to work on swap blocks before they get home.
Thank you for the coffee LK.
Victoria Harbour, ON
That was good news about the computer, usually they charge an arm and a leg..did you have a service contract?
As for the wood pieces, regardless how lovely they are when doing trompe l'oeil or realism which takes forever you can't even get price of wood so wouldn't be a good way of getting $$$ for that cruise..better chance at the lottery..lol
Nice to get ahead of the game re block swap..reality is, before you know it the deadline will be upon us.. I've 4 more to do, will mail them on the 19th somewhere along my travles..
Lexington Park, MD
I just started my blocks.Raining here so no gardening.
Yes the part was a modem that computer services place in the home. Their equiment not mine. So I still have my arms and legs.
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Synda I have Hughesnet and I didn't know it worked like that! I've never gone over, never even thought about it, my charge is the same every month, maybe they changed something since I got it 4 1/2 years ago. That's a rip!
LK glad you're making an appointment with a specialist and calling your attorney! I would have been livid as well, what a tard!! Hope you can get into one real fast, the longer you have to wait the more that's going to heal, and it seems to me like you have tendon damage.
YAY Thunder!! So glad your son got that job and starts today, that's awesome! I would love to have 4 days off in a row, without burning any vacation time!
Well fiddlesticks, I don't have any news.
Oh Betty, make sure those bearings are fixed before you drive down here, those bearings make the wheels turn and if they were to seize up you won't be going anywhere.
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, where are you going on this trip?
Victoria Harbour, ON
Crissy, it's at the dealership as we speak..only had 1 bearing in stock and will check to see on the one I just had put in by Bernie (know he knows his stuff but Midland dealership said it had to be replaced) if that's the case then I'll bring it back either tomorrow or Friday when they get the 2nd bearing in..should know mid afternoon what's happening..
We are still undecided as to which car to take, mine is cheaper on gas but Suzanne's is more comfy..I go for the comfy!
My internet is unlimited..never use much of it though..
Victoria Harbour, ON
Leaving here on the 19th..heading towards Nashville, hoping that Joyce will be home that I can stop and give her a hug..will stop in at Lincoln's birthtown, day in Nashville/Grand Ole Opry...then on to Memphis, stopped at Loretta Lynn's restaurant and her dude ranch lol, then night in Memphis - doing the Elvis thing at Graceland seeing the girls have never been..just driving and stopping along the way...the girls are still saying next year Texas lol
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Well if you're not going to bring your car then I'm not going to worry about it! LOL Have y'all reserved the hotel room yet? I haven't and need to do that I suppose
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello To All !
Well - as if my "Cough" knew that I had a DR appt today... it kept me up all night... so home today. Sure burning up sick leave quickly.. hope it works out okay this year...
Baton Rouge set a new Record low today at 43 degrees. I never remember it being that cold in May. Betty - Sun is shining and I'm feeling a bit better so will go check out the bloom situation and maybe get you and Bev a pic....
Dianne... Wish I could have gone for the walk this morning. I dont' think I got any sleep until about 3am.... Yes - how is hubby ?
Thunder YAY! it feels do good to get your 'list' accomplished.. I can hear it in your voice... LOL... wish I could get close to the bottom of my list as well... Laura - glad you have your computer, arms and legs intact LOL...
Going to take a walk in the back yard and will check back...
Mary
Verona, ON
Hope the doc is able to give you something for that cough Mary. I have a chronic cough that rears its ugly head at the worst times. Sure hope you start feeling better soon - I think we are all hanging on by our teeth up here in the north for 2 or 3 days in a row of warmth and sunshine.
Am dithering around and just don't know what to do so am looking for some sage advice and suggestions. I mentioned before the gal I worked with who was charged with theft. This came after a 2 year struggle her DH had with several different forms of cancer and it is a miracle he is alive. Now on Sun morning she went to wake her 31 year old son up and she found him dead in bed. I just don't know what to do or say. Her case has still not gone to court so that is hanging over everything and making me wonder what to do. Any suggestions?
Thunder what a week for you!!!! Whooooo Hoooo!!!
DH is not doing well and there has been no call about a MRI yet. Think I will get on the phone tomorrow and stir up the pot a bit.
Everyone now has power back, some poeple didn't get theirs until last night. Hydro will be in shortly to cut down some trees by the lines I am sure.
Barb hope you and Norm are enjoying your time with the grands.
Shirley how are you doing sweetie? Hope you will keep in touch with us. I am sure this week is just overwhelming for you but you know we are all here for you.
Guess what? It is raining! And yes that is hyseterical laugh coming from my mouth....... when or when will we get some sun? Betty you speak to Frankie for us, OK?
Stormy and I are off for our second walk of the day - the fox was waiting for us in the field this morning. It sure is a beauty! Wonder if we will see it now?
Dianne
Dianne, pick up that phone and call the Dr. please! Why wait till tomorrow? Enjoy your walk. Praying the rain will stop for you!
Mary, prying you get some meds that will work for you! Geesh, so many of us sick! This weird weather is hard on all of us!
Verona, ON
LK can't call today the doc's office closes at noon on Wednsdays still - now you know I really do live in the boonies!lol DH can't remember what MRI facility his referral was sent to, just that it was not the hospital. Grrrrrrr! Did get him to come for a brief walk between raindrops, and he said he really enjoyed it. Sure hope that will spur him on although I do know all too well how hard it is to get moving when in such severe pain.
Stormy and Quill but especially Storm desperately need a bath. A little too cold yet for the lake so if it doesn't rain tomorrow I will hook up 1 set of outside hoses where we have both hot and cold running water and see what I can do with the 2 of them.
Crissy I have been meaning to mention how happy I am that you got the 4 wheeler. Bet you and Dave will have a blast out on them.
Crissy ,they did not tell us either when we signed up for hughesnet , we were under the impression it was UNLIMITED......LOL ,What a joke !!!! ..........Tricksters that's what they are !!!!!! I don't know what plan you are on or what system you have but here is where it tells you about the download allowance...... http://web.hughesnet.com/sites/legal/Pages/FairAccessPolicy.aspx
They say the Government sets this up ~~~~~ I have downloaded There meter and it tell me how much download I have left ,if you go over ,you can still get on the internet but it will be as slow ,if not slower than dial up .
Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)
Our Forstythia and Bridal Wreath are around 20 years old give or take ..........We have a Pussy Willow that is about 25 years old that we have TRIED to do away with that REFUSES to leave !!!!!!! My all time Favorite is Lilacs..........they are about 5 years old and stand anywhere from 2 ft. to 8 ft.!!!!!!!!!
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Synda Thanks! Oh LOL I guess I did know that, we don't download very many things, just my gamehouse games and just visit websites, so I probably don't use much, I use more on my phone downloading apps, but now that I'm an Angry Birds addict I don't have that problem at the moment. I've never had a slowdown and my bill has been the same every month for the past 4 years so I guess I'm not going to worry about it. I'll have to look at what plan I'm on when I get home, I don't know what plan I'm on but I get charged $69.99 a month.
Thanks Dianne!! We are going to have a blast on them!!
Wow Synda, those are some serious flowers!
This message was edited May 4, 2011 2:49 PM
Victoria Harbour, ON
I'd say you must have great soil in Ohio or you treat your earth with healthy food..lol..I did purchase 4 ornamental willows last year and when I walked the garden this morning saw I had willows..will take a photo tonight for you. I have old lilac trees that I have no idea how long they've been there, lot are woody..I've a secret garden in the middle of them and I'd hate to lose it so I've started planting a few trees each year so that once they are fully grown I can cut down the old..someone did tell me to cut them to the ground and they might come back strong but no can do!!! The boomerang lilac trees which are a continuous bloom won't grown high but I'll have blooms several times a season..looking forward to that!
Apparently a few of the trees are rare, from olden days, very frilly and the darkest of purples, everyone tries to get a starter root, not sure how lucky they are with them..
Do have a 10' snowball tree, seems to do well every couple of years, in buds right now, I did cut, and know I shouldn't have some old/dead branches, not sure it I'll have done damage but normally that's where they get attacked..
Dianne, know what you mean about office being closed, seems everytime I need an appt. he's off for the day or on vacation..guess with having so many clients they need breaks...yes, I'll tell Frankie Flowers to give you the sunshine you need, especially for the weekend..time for nice weather..don't know about you but think this weekend will need to cut the grass for the 1st.time..
Dianne I so think your acquaintance could use a friend, regardless if she were guilty or not, sometimes it only takes someone to offer a hand and their entire life changes ...I'm sure right now she needs a lifeline..please give her a call..how terrible for her and her family!!!
So Mary instead of packing summer clothes for my trip in a few weeks maybe I'd best pack my winter skivies??? that is indeed cold..sorry you are still not feeling well..maybe you should have stayed home just a little longer..
Crissy, Suzanne booked a hotel almost across from Graceland, has a guitar pool..lol..if there is only 3 of us and you do meet up with us you are
certainly welcome to stay in our room..great bunch of girls, might keep you up all night ...it's for Sunday night though???
Car dealership will pick me up at 4:45..omg the young service lady that was there got everything covered under warrantee..on Saturday morning had I taken it to Midland it would have cost close to $300. if not more..yikes I'm so pleased..think I might pick up flowers after I get my car and go back and give her them..I'm thrilled..let's hope all is looked after now..
My extended warranty is for 160kl and I'm just over 140kl..got a card in the mail last night saying to ask my dealership about the new additional warranty program they have out, so will ask this young lady..might be worth it
Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)
When we lived in town we had a Snowball bush/tree ,that Ricks grandma gave us but it was too big to move when we moved........ : (
I want to get the reblooming Lilac ...........I adore the fragrance of Lilacs and hate it when the blooms are gone.
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Betty you will never hurt a plant/tree/shrub/whatever by cutting the dead thatch out of it, it harms the plant more if it's left in there. Last spring Diana cut her two 12' snowball bushes down to 6' and they're back up to 12' again.
Betty LOL what hotel is it so I know where I'm going! YIPEEEEEEE!!!!! Even though that's Dave's 50th birthday weekend I took Monday off so I could come party with you all! YIIPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Synda they do get big! I love the 'snowballs' they have on them though.
Dover, PA(Zone 6b)
I hope everyone starts feeling better soon. The weather is starting to warm up, time for a nice summer for us all.
Ric and I had a nice day running errands. My car needed new tires and lineament big $$ but very glad it is done. We picked up some building materials for a small project. Drop ceiling in one of the closets and the laundry room. We found an open box that they sold us cheap. Had lunch out while we were running. We stopped at a couple of thrift stores and I found a stack of X-stitch books. Funny thing, Years ago I had a book with these X-stitch medallions the 12 Days of Christmas. So the first year I did 5 of them then I put it away till the next year when I did 4 more. The third year I was going to finish them. Everyone was calling them the 12 Years of Christmas. It would take me 12 years before I finished them. Well I got a few of them done and started to look around and couldn't find the first 5 that I had done. Then the book with the patterns turned up missing and the whole mess just got shelved. So today I was looking thru these X-Stitch books at the thrift store and there was a project folder with the 12 Days of Christmas medallions. So here I am starting from scratch but this time I won't get side tracked and I will get them finished. LOL
When I get them all done they get sewn on to a Tree Skirt.
Crissy, we will be at Days Inn Graceland - 3839 Elvis Presley Blvd. Memphis, only thing is we have to leave early Monday morning to keep n schedule we're hoping to get there around noon or so, do grace land then Beale St..would hate to screw up your plans having Monday off, but sure would like to party with you lol
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello All ! ((HUGS)) for you and Hubby Dianne... hope you get that mri for him soon... so sad to have storms all the time... BUT look at your addresss ! LOL :o) "Something" got put in the mail to you today. If it takes as long as the something I sent Betty then I could have put in a bottle and thrown in the ocean and it would get to you quicker ! ROFLOL !
LK - well doc said treat like allergies for a week and we'll see. never had allergies keep me up all night. More worried about you and your fingers... you see the specialist soon, right ? We've had weirdly cold lows ....yes - crazy weather...
Betty - not sure about packing your winter gear... the HIGH was 76 ... just the lows have been low...
The guy at the swap said to bring plumeria in for 52* or less... never thought I'd bring a plant inside in MAY... HOLLY LOL 12 years of Christmas... let's hope Santa doesn't find out... I can't wait that long... BBL !
Victoria Harbour, ON
Holly, some projects are endless aren't they, you can surprise everyone and get them done for this Christmas!! You had a busy day, think sometimes you work harder when off work than when at work..
I must get out the planning gardening journal I got in a swap and start mRking where I purchase shrubs, see that I purchased one $24.99 and it looks as though it's dead, hydrangea!! Was painting strokes on envelopes and pPer for stationary today, fi iced 24 so tomorrow thi k I'll mark out each of the gardens and mark In what is where and the height so I know what is happening from year to year and also add receipts because a lot of the more expensive ones have a 1 year replaceent policy..wonderful but if you don't know where they were bought you are out of luck!
With not sleeping the best the past 3 or 4 nights I think I'll have a bath, get into jammies and just relax
Found a quilting pattern for civil war..called letters for home, maybe I'll play at enlarging the design so I can do it for one of the swap blocks..looks easy and yet so representative of that era..should fill in the evening!!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Mary I won't bring skivies but will make sure I've a light jacket! Still have 2 weeks so still time to warm up..last year I think it was late may, early June when Crissy and I went to joyce's and it was sooo humid..
(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)
My son is at work...wow does that ever feel weird to say..!!! He is working in the kitchen at a country club, washing dishes...and will fill in as table buser when needed....not the greatest job in the world, but not the worst either...and it is pretty good pay, and someone I know who works there says the kitchen help gets 40 - 50 hours a week, and they pay over time ...whooo hoooo some restaurants here do not pay overtime..some crazy law, regarding entertainment and food industry, says they do not have to...........one of my other boys worked at the movie theater, and NEVER got overtime, no matter how many hours he worked, and never got "lunches" sometimes he would work a 10 hour day and only get two 10 - 15 min. breaks...again something crazy in the law for entertainment / food industry.... he will find out about schedules, and such tonight..
I don't know where the "sailor" is off to ??? he did not answer the message I left him, when I got out of work, Hubby had to go for MRI today so he was not home when the kid went out.....the "soldier" is on yet another plane....getting closer to "home soil" !!!! 4 different planes this trip.... I do not even know if he will get in tonight or tomorrow??? DIL did not answer her phone either :( but she was probably at work when I called....or possibly on the way to meet him??? I do know she took tomorrow off from work.....
Synda I love pussy willows !!! we had the church decorated with big bunches of them for our wedding !!!
I am gonna go do some sewing....will check back in later...
