Vanilla is seasonally volatile. I remember Penzeys catalog saying something about that. Hope for better crop next year, then invest!
Money Matters - Part 6
As someone pointed out re the BP spill--how many of us truly prepare for emergencies? What if my DH got hit by a bus? (((shudder)))

I saw gas for $3.489 on my weekend trip to the central VA RU... but I had just filled up @ $3.59 about 50 miles before that station!
since you got it 14 cents below my current, I'm not sure if I want to say Yay or Awww
Nice price - relatively speaking.
Now you know why we are not a residential company...this guy called 4 times today!!!! Even though we told him part is on order, we do not have an EXACT eta of when we can fix his unit, told him about a week(don't know why he didn't offer to pay to have it overnighted???)
So why are you doing this job??
People are a pain. I tip my hat to those who deal with the !?#%#*## public.
Our biz partner felt sorry for the guy, reminded him of his grandfather
Then he should have asked Grandpa to do the job!
LOL
Next time you use your cell phone you might want to think twice
http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/05/31/who.cell.phones/index.html?hpt=he_c1
Read that yesterday....glad im not one of those people w/it stuck to my ear/hands.
Those cell towers are all over the place down here too! Big heavy cables hooked up to something that uses a lot of power in a big, thick pole, kinda makes me wonder how much energy it's putting out.
everyone is getting cooked.
I have been wondering what percentage Social Security is returned to the actual workers?
Seems American workers keep giving to taxes and are currently going into financial problems because of all these taxes.
We're back to where we were before we threw the tea overboard..
Ladyslipper - the social security fund has always been raided to supplement the budget. In fact, the 'budget surplus' of '99-'00 was not a real surplus. It was using borrowed ss money. However, on an individual basis, the average retiree uses up everything he/she contributed in only about 5 or so years. That gets longer each year because of the increase in ss tax in 1986. Those who started working then have contributed the most and yet will see cuts or will have to wait longer to collect. It was never a well-thought out plan. FDR did not even see it as a permanent program, but as a safety net for the Depression. He envisioned private accounts taking over.
"He envisioned private accounts taking over." His dream may yet come true--for a few of us!
I would love it. Wish they had passed that a few years back. The usual scare tactics killed it. I know I can do better than the less than 1% ss returns.
"I know I can do better than the less than 1% ss returns." Thats horrible to think of it in those terms. I mean horrible for us who are paying into it and getting that kind of return. Best to have long living relatives who will pass along any excess to us.
Thanks for all the input, however, I still would like to know what percentage over the years, actual workers have or 'had' paid into social security. This is an enlightening question....I do realize that some do collect much more than they actually had put into it, some have died before recieving a penny.
If there was not an excess of money in social security paid by the workers, why did the government spend it on other programs? Why were they allowed to do this without the workers who paid their hard earned dollars into social security not have a voice.
This raises many questions....workers need to be protected from politicians who takes their hard earned dollars that they faithfully paid into social security.
All workers should know 'exactly' what is in social security from their taxes to make plans for the future and to protect their money loyally paid into social security.
I am sure the government would not want this information made public.
Rates are here.

You get a statement every year telling you what you grossed, what was put in and how much you will get if you continue working, etc.
They raided ss for many years because it was sitting there with a huge surplus and they could not keep their hands off. It gives them cover because it's not in the 'actual' budget. It was a huge surplus in the past because of the demographics - so many more people working compared to those collecting. That number has now come way down and will come down drastically in the next 20 years as boomers retire.
Market reacting to the terrible jobs news. Dow down over 220 pts. Been taking money out of stock funds for a few weeks now.
Thank you all for the input about SS, however, the question is 'How much $$$ is in SS?'
I do recieve my yearly notice about my contribution etc...however it is just for me.
What is the total amount in SS?? What percentage is figured for retirees etc....
This is my and your money, we should know these figures.
