Welcome back north, Louise! Victor, did you get the fountain?
I just was in my backyard inspecting and noticed my one redbud tree, the one that grew healthier, faster than the other one, appears to be dead. It's buds are small and black like in the fall, no leaves pushing out. My other one has fat, flower buds and little leaves pushing out. The dead looking one's branches are black looking and I'm wondering what happened to it. The branches are brittle, and the buds just crumble off... : ( This was the most promising tree, the one that was growing quickly to cover my neighbor's ugly yard... Kinda bummed.
Coffee Break #58
Victor I have to tell you.. that Neilmed works great.. 1st time trying it today.. I can breathe better already!!!... thanks!!!!
You're welcome, Allison. I like it a lot. My sister told me about it.
Hey Harp. It's just a planter. I will make it into a fountain myself. didn't order it yet, but will. I need an outside receptacle installed.
We had a young women go missing here from Southern Maine. She went to meet somone in N.H. , they found her car running with her 14 month old daughter inside alone, lights blinking and car door open. Yesterday they found her body in a pond not far from where they found her car. I can not believe who ever did this just left the baby in the car alone and abducted her Mother. Really upsetting....we've had 4 young women found dead from Maine alresdy this year.

just terrible
I read about this stuff in N.Y., Calif. Fla., it doesn't happen in Maine often...but lately it's starting to show up more frequently.
Since emergency cell phone technology is now inexpensive.....
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a cheap cell phone for safety.
I'm not a detective, but I read detective novels, and I'm guessing she knew her attacker.
Kids in high school need to learn to "mistrust"; I know that's a sad way to look at our fellow man, but safety is paramount.
Unfortunately, I know from personal experience.
Yes, I saw that story. Very sad. Happens everywhere.
Horrific!!!
that is terrible celeste
Some monsters can cover their tracks better than others, (not easy to dig a big hole in NY without someone wondering what you're going to put in it..), but they exist everywhere.
- Hope they find whoever is responsible before they do something else.
Very sad story.....also just sick about all the people killed by tornadoes yesterday....horrendous spring down south! Louise, good luck with the raking....I have a wild black cherry in the back, millions of dried cherries in the grass....had no idea they were poisonous......my dogs eat the apple drops, though, and that's not always a good situation.....
WooHoo! The town crew was on the road spray painting the outline for storm drains.....there will be one just above my constantly washing out perennial bed!
Terrific!
Sooo anyone been to DC/VA area? If you were to go and only had a short amount of time to see things....what would be your top 5 things be to see?
Don't bother mentioning the Botanical Garden, it's at the top of my list! LOL
I'm going with DD #3 on an adventure.....she has decided her old Mom needs to get out and see the world. Since she has traveled all over since she was 16 she is the more 'worldly' one and is dragging me along. This is some where she has always wanted to go and she has 3 weeks vacation she needs to use up. This will be week #1, she'll need the other 2 to re-coup from the week w/her Mother. ^_^
Wow - where to start?!! I love the area. Smithsonian, Archives, Mt. Vernon, the war memorials, night tour on bus, WH, Capitol, Arlington. When are you going?
ditto to what Victor said!
National Arboretem, Ford's Theater, Supreme Court.
Contact your Senators, Congressman for tour tickets asap.
May 16th, and thank you! L
We want to go to Arlington Cemt., the Vietnam Mem., Tarsha wants to go to the Holycost Mem. But we will have a few spare hours to fill.
Driving or flying?
Driving and we only have 5 short days.
Driving within DC is NOT recommended!!
Go, Pixie! But be prepared, when I laid the palm of my hand on the Vietnam Memorial, tears flowed.
Welcome Home Louise!!
It's easier than Boston! ;) But definitely avoid the loop at 8 am and 5 pm.
Very emotional, but I found Arlington even moreso.
Can look up names on the wall here:

the Wall ... brought me to tears
I found one person with my last name.
I am going to the wall to honer my brothers friends who served w/him. One pushed brother out of the fox hole along with another but he did not make it. I owe him a thank you and then some. I expect to cry.
really... anyone in the family know them?
No.
I loved Mt. Verson, but if you only have a short time, it might not be practical. Lincoln Memorial for sure.
nice!
Beautiful, Pixie!
NICE
Sounds like a great trip and a wonderful opportunity to just enjoy time with Tarsha, Celeste! Hope you enjoy it! I would make the same recommendations you've already heard!
Thanks, Weez! I'm getting my soul filled up by being out there in the black flies raking and peaking and getting excited at everything coming up. Bill's twig bird house is up in my Friendship Garden, which I am bisecting with a path that will run east to west just above the huge erratic in it.
Marilyn - be careful about those dried cherries - but as I have said before - I've never had dogs like these that even cared about picking everything up. Apparently the dried cherries are even more deadly, as it only takes one little crack of the pit to release the cyanide. Because we just can't get all of them up this year, we've decided to move the black fencing so that the girls will not have access to the area where the cherries are still in the grass and dirt. There's just no way to keep them safe for sure. Maybe after another year, they will have decomposed sufficiently and we'll open up the whole back yard again. For now, they will have no access to the BBQ pit area and the Friendship Garden area. There's still plenty of yard left for them to run around. Now that all the raking is done in the back yard, I'll be heading to Keene for some fertilizer, compost and maybe - just maybe - a few geraniums, etc. After looking through all the garden catalogs on the trip up, I've really got my eye on a variegated Chinese dogwood. Anyone have any experience with one? I'm zone 5, which it says is ok.
