Allison, hope things go well for your Dad......I really had no pain after my hip was repaired, just weak. It took awhile to get my strength back....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

right now he had to resort to using a walker... and he is the kind of guy who walks the dogs for miles & miles everyday.. he is out of his mind not being able to do that.. he is not the type to just sit around... inactivity and pain.. makes for a crabby dude.. but I know once he is done he will fight to get back in there and do what they tell him at rehab .. he normally stretches every morning.. does the stationary bike (from 1980 and very squeaky.. LOL).. .. and walks like crazy

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

allison - good luck to your dad - my fil just had his done - was hard the first week - need to do the rehab! - he is up and moving around now - might even be planting the end of this month

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks...he will behave in rehab.. and probably not complain out loud to the nurse.. but my mom will hear it later

Hallowell, ME

Best to your dad allison. DD just had hers done last month and is back at work!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very annoying that 'other news' eclipsed coverage of the US Pole Dancing Championship this past weekend.

Hi all! Allison - hope all goes well for your Dad! I had to read so fast I'm not sure what day his surgery is, but I'll keep him and you all in my prayers for a speedy recovery for Dad!

The rain out there is great for my plants, but not so good for my internet satellite, so I'm rushing here just to say hi. I'll be back when he have sunshine!! Happy Week, everyone!

This may have been covered on earlier threads before I came to Dave's Garden, but:

What sneakers, or shoes, or boots, or whatever....do you wear for gardening, especially in the spring morning when the grass is wet with dew?

I'm tired of wet feet, which end up cold, after 2 minutes.

(Please use brand names if it's ok, I don't think it would be an offense.)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Old leather loafers - Thom McAn.

Sneakers or anything that ties just makes a mess of the kitchen or mud room floors.

There was a Voting Booth poll on this subject in the past.

Old leather sneakers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i wear good hiking shoes with gortex

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And black socks, Bill? ^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

actually sometimes i do - especially if i am building a garden bed - no need to ruin a good pair of soon to be "brown" white socks.

the black ones are converse all-star athletic socks i pick up cheap at 19 3/4's a discount chain up here.

Sneakers

Sneakers and if its real hot and I am going to water and get soaked, barefoot or a pair of open rubber sandals. I wish I had a pair of Sole Suckers (topless sandals) had a pair in the 70's and they were great.

N/A, I wait till it dries so my feet don't get wet. I got time...

What ever I have on my feet when i walk out the door. :)

Thanks, all !!!

I shall ponder, and check out the "old stuff" lying around in the bottom of my closet...see if I can use "leftovers" before spending $$.

Thomaston, CT

I use old leather sneakers as well.....keep them in the garage for yard work of any kind.....

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I used to keep my garden shoes in the garage so as not to track in leaves, dirt, etc. but then a neighbor was bitten by a brown recluse spider and the word spread fast that old shoes (or new shoes!) in the garage is one of their favorite hiding spots.

Thomaston, CT

Pirl, I always shake out anything from the garage....the first time I put on my gardening gloves for the year, I turn them inside out. A woman cashier at Stop & Shop was bitten by a brown recluse.....her arm was totally gross!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I always shake out my shoes before putting them on, even if they aren't in the garage...I find kids toys, dog food/hair in them

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm going to start checking my shoes!

Wow - great vantage point for the memorial!

Spiders ?!?

I know that out West, they fold over their empty boots at night to avoid rattlesnakes, but it's good to know that people in the Northeast should also be careful.

Yikes !

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

In the circle, a thin line of people chosen to shake hands with the President, on the left is the President with 4 of his guards receiving guests. - hard to see, next time I'll bring my point & shoot..
