It's obvious he was being hidden by the Pakistanis. The fortified compound is in an army town, with high-level active and retired officers. And with virtually no security force with him inside, he obviously felt safe.
Coffee Break #58
Saddened?? Not me.
Pixie, that poem needs to be published !!!
I'm saddened he wasn't killed in the 90's.
I am saddened by the fact that there was no other recourse, that we have to these enemies that hate the US so much we HAVE to take them out because there is no rehibilitation for them if they were just captured and kept alive.
Can we bring our troops home from Afganistan now?
Wow - now hearing that the original intel came from a Gitmo detainee.
I agree, Victor, it would have been better if he had been killed much earlier. Yes, Jen, no other recourse. I guess, it's cuz I get upset when I see rejoicing in other parts of the world when something bad happens to the USA, so when we do it , it saddens me. Don't get me wrong, I am wholeheartedly glad he is gone.
He definitely felt safe there. HMMM makes you wonder, doesn't it, about how much the Pakistani military knew.
Jan I understand your statement about being kinda saddened by the rejoicing. I felt guilty and pleasure at the news of his death. I know the bible tells me not to rejoice in thy enemies death, but it also tells me that HE died on the cross to forgive ours sins. I know its wrong but can not help it. He killed too many innocent people, he came to our homeland and did this and wrong or not I can not help but feel the way I do. I don't know, I just know that everything happens for a reason. I accepted this, had too with 9-11 it was just easier to accept his death and... i'll ask for forgivness for feeling the way I do, but I think HE understands. ^_^
Separately, this is a great moment during a very down time in this country.
I agree !
I think that the 'joy' comes from relief, especially the 911 families.
Great decision by the prez not to go with a bomb that would have obliterated everything.
Probably very bittersweet for the families.
Can't wait to see the seal team.
You said it perfectly, Pixie.
Also, I agree, Iris about the joy from relief.
It is good news in a down time. Yes, Victor, a bomb would have not given the proof. I am so glad I live in the USA.
Team Six is an elite group of Seals, picked from the already elite Seals.
Love thinking that he heard American voices in his final seconds.
Just hope and pray this does not trigger new attacks. You know that's what they want.
Also strange that was just about one year to the day of the attempted Times Sq bombing.
Reporting now he was not thin and had been living well.
Also that he was killed with a single bullet.
Hearing now that there were dozens of others living at the compound who were left. I think they should have been taken and interrogated by us. The Pakistanis will probably just kill them and not share anything with us.
He lived in a palace while our dead, due to him, are buried or just dust.
I'm visualizing the Seal guy giving them a chance to surrender saying, in a real NY voice, 'Eh, How you doin', Usama?'
Or, that they fell for the old pizza delivery routine.
A satan by any other name...
Well, we're now learning that, once again, the wife is to blame. Apparently, they were not sure it would be Obama in that compound. It was only when his wife yelled his name that they were sure. Now, you would think with so many years to prepare, they would have rehearsed something like - 'If someone bursts into our house, yell out 'Barney!'
If that were my wife, she would be the shield.
Could have been Paris Hilton.
Watched the news conference. It was his wife who was the shield, though it was not clear whether she was pushed there, grabbed by him or went herself.
The dead one.
Victor - did we finish off everyone in the palace?
