Not for sure. Sure hope this therapy helps them?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon everyone, brrr it's cold, sun has gone down and even the furnace being hiked doesn't take the awful chill away!

Ann dishortly, shortly after her arrival Cathy dropped in..just finding myself alone at 4:30 in the afternoon ..kind of cold inside the heart as well as the cold nest in the room..

On Friday, Mike got extremely ill and they took him to the hospital..after X-rays the doctor asked to speak with her..showed her x rays and said that lungs were now almost completely shut down and that he wouldn't be leaving the hospital!

Ann told the girls but not Mike..ann told the doctors that with the meds and few proceedures that would be done that he just might get to go home..as it happened on Sunday's morning they said he had improved and could go home, ann felt he should stay 1 more day so that she could prepare for his arrival..hospital bed, walker, meds etc., so on Monday morning he came home.

Ann says she can now see the fear..wants her by his side constantly which is understandable. It won't be long ..saw Ann trying to be so strong that my heart breaks for her..

Well, I've written at least 3 novels and erased pretty well everything I typed, emotions run rampid at times like this , best not leave the ramblings of this old gal typed for all to read! Saying and remembering has helped

Be back in a bit..with company all day, very little got done

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh my dear friend. How I wish I were already there to give you warm hugs. I know you need them as much as Ann does. I feel so helpless being so far away at a time like this. Please know how much I care for you and for Ann & Mike. Blessings to you all
and my prayers for your comfort and strength will continue...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh I'm ok Barb, just seems inhumane let let a love one suffer so.
Should go check and see if I mentioned I spoke with mom a short while ago, in excellent spirits..problem with her blood pressure so they've been giving her blood..Sharon visited with her, the are like cat/dog those two, Sharon said that had she not had to be home for her daughters' bus that she have stayed a few hours longer...said it was a joy speaking with her!

As for Jim, needs prostrate operation, waiting for specialist to call re appt

Linda Cousin/SIL called, she was in Toronto today, her husband had
surgery, he dealt with cancer a few years ago, seems to be another upset..Linda is one of the girls coming with us on our May travels

Not sure I mentioned my call early this morning from Suzanne, not unusual for me to get a 6am call, knows I'm either up or getting up..her hubby Lenny drives transport in USA so not home most nights..at 2:30am she could hear banging at front door, voice of a child or young woman crying out " help me, help me, please help me". She had the common sense although almost still sleeping NOT to unlock the door but call 911..she looked outside to see if she could see someone in need, a body on the ground, something, but no one..
911 attendant stayed on the line talking to her until police arrived..no less than 4 cruisers..

Apparently the solar light at the front had been taken down and smashed, guess so no one could identify them..police said that she did the right thing in calling, have had some home invasions in the past while..said under NO circumstance even if she saw someone laying on the growing should she or anyone else go outside, just call out and let them know the police and ambulance is on their way...

Have to say half asleep or not I'd probably have opened the door...remember the other night when dil and friend came a knocking, although concerned I would open the door...must keep telling myself it's a no/no...

After a regular day like today you need not wonder why I have headaches. Lol

Barb, glad they were able to diagnose the need for you to have catarac (?) removed..laughing at your seeing double/triple

LindaKay would imagine your fingers will hurt like *^%# tonight.did you tell therapist you had better therapy ideas ie picking up jellybeans and m &m's

Should have supper but Ann brought a carrot cake so between my muffins that you didn't eat and I had to and carrot cake with Ann and Cathy, who needs supper..I'm on a sugar hype lol

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Mary - don't think anyone said, but Rhubarb looks like red celery - very sour, with humongous leaves (could make plaster stepping stones from them - very large stepping stones lol)
I've made rhubarb ice cream, and popsicles from it, and it's very good as a pie (Rhubarb custard pie is what my mom made, and my DH loves Strawberry/Rhubarb pie).

Victoria Harbour, ON

You've got my mouth watering Susan, more goodies to fatten me up! Just talking to Sharon, she is about 80 miles south of here, says it's snowing nag ground is white..now raining here

Laura did you get to the park?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I love Rhubarb custard pie, but because it's not what my DH grew up with, I never get it...... siiiigh

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodness, glad to hear she did not open the door!
Now, are you avoiding the question??? Have you called your Dr? Or did I miss your answer?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol, dozed off LindaKay..did call he's away until next week..spoke with his assistant and she suggested as well that I get my blood checked, ekg the other doctor gane me the sheet to do then make appt. With Paul and everyone away just couldn't go this week, but am behaving, resting a lot andd have only 2 more days and then have 3 days off...think it's thundering...lordy birds are a chirping!

Off to bed

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty my heart goes out to you girl, you are the one we all want to lean on in sad times. Please give and HUG to Ann for them both and tell her they are in my prayers.

I tried to send his Mom to one of the others, what a fiasco. I'll apologized and sucked it up and will make the best to the situation. I'm not going it to it any further, but thanks for the support.

Tubby is resting and I'm gonna lay down also. We've been up and down alot last night and today. We did set and have a nice talk this evening. He asked questions and I answered.

Okay sweet dreams to all and God bless everyone's family.

Shirley

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I may never catch up but I am trying.
Shirley, So very sorry to hear about your Mom. I agree, this is a great place to share your worries and grief.
Debbie, Yes they are mine, climbers growing on my split rail fence called America. I have planted some Clementius with them.
crissy, So very sorry for friend. The pics on the news last night were just terrible, so much devastation across the country.
Betty, Also so very sorry for Anne & Mike.
Been pretty busy, I like my job a lot but still mind the loss of freedom. I am learning fast and they seem really pleased with my work. There have been several customers that liked my service enough to comment or call in after I helped them. So I have had several Atta Girls from the managers.
Josh and his girl had a great day out on the creek. With all the rain we have been having the creeks are running fast and high. He told me he went over a 4ft falls and both him and the kayak plunged under the water and popped right back up.
I think everyone could use something bright and pretty.

Hello To All !

Thank you for the picture Holly ! Seems like we all need a little beauty in our lives about now... Funny about our Hubby's being similar... I suppose we are lucky... don't think I'd have gotten into gardening without his encouragement and our running jokes... (his plants and my plants.... mine are better of course)

Dianne - I looked up the Spicy Cajun Iris and it is GORgeous ! Love for you to think of me when that blooms ! Deb... isn't that a Country song? "T-R-O-U-B-L-E".... LOL.....

Barb... so glad you pinpointed the problems... Did a regular eye dr. catch the cateracts ? So Funny.... See ME! I'm the 'one in the middle"..... LOL....
Crissy - so sad about your friend... I'll look at the link in a bit... Those horrible numbers ....23 passed from the storm? makes you always wonder if it will touch someone you know.... ((HUGS))

Susan... Hm... RED Celery and bitter... so hard to imagine and you all are saying "yum"... LOL.....Again wondering if it's a northern thing and they can't be grown here? Certainly it's been tried in the South as popular as it is with you Gals... Shirley... wondering if I could even grow it ?

Wondering if we have a Southern Veggie that you gals have never eaten or seen ? I always think of Okra when I think of Grandma.... But ya'll have seen okra... they have it at Cracker Barrell... OH... I know of one I never heard about till I moved to Louisiana but not one I've had a lot of... it's called mirleton.....

Shirley... Bless you and I agree with the other folks.... YOU are entitled to do whatever makes you and Tubby most comfortable.....

Hear Shadow calling out for help... Belle must have him cornered... Be back in a bit... (HUGS)

Mary, my grandma used to dig up a palm of sorts and take "cabbage" out from it...and cook that up. Stunk to high heavens, but I remember it tasting very good. We would have to trapse into the woods to find it also.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Deb... Funny... I remember hiking in the woods behind our house in Florida... and Dad telling me that if I got lost and hungry... I could eat the branch/stems of the palmetto's.... Know I pay a lot for a salad at a nearby restaurant with "Hearts of Palm"... LOL... I'm sure these would be different plants than in New York... OR... didn't you grow up in Florida ?

HUGS
Mary

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

any night shift poppin in...or the early morning shift..........

My son has a job interview in the morning 11 am eastern time....he sure could do with getting a job....so prayers would be highly appreciated.....
Shirley, I hope to be at least half as strong as you, if the time comes I find my self in "your shoes" love and hugs to ya girl.....

Lyndonville, NY

Mary it was when I lived in Florida. My Grandma lived in the Auburndale/Lakeland area. I grew up further south Bradenton/Venice area.

Baton Rouge, LA

Thunder - I totally agree... Shirley is truly an inspiration to me... more than she could know.... Good luck to your DS with his interview ! Hope the job market is good in Florida... My "heart" still in my home state....

Deb... wow I thought I did remember that..... I'm not as familiar with the peninsula... but Parents were High School Sweethearts in Interlachen which you and Thunder probably have never heard of (near Palatka/Gainesville).... we moved to Orlando when I was 2-5 then to Ft Walton when I was 11-18....HOW does a Florida lady do in New York ??

See you need some Florida Sunshine to bring you cheer....Good lookin weather works like a Good lookin Doctor... LOL

Okay Ya'll ... I looked up Rhubarb on DG and it's all up in your states... not a one in the southern states... Rather than send me a plant to kill... I'll just plan a "Rhubarb Tour" and visit you all... and you would all have to fix me ONE Rhubarb recipe.....each... all different....

I just asked and Hubby has never had rhubarb either...

Verona, ON

Waiting for you to tour my Rhubarb patch Mary!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Mary I have a huge rhubarb in the back yard. One plant feeds us, my MILs needs and daughter Carrie. THey both make strawberry/rhubarb pie. I am not a big fan of that. My Mom and I used to sit on the picnic table each chewing on a raw rhubarb stick and making faces. It reminds me of sour patch kids candy! lol

Mary, this girl does NOT fare well in NY. I think it is part of my depression issue. Just do not care for it here at all. Last summer when I went to Florida with Greersfolly as a guest, you would never know the tears I shed standing on that beach....feet in the Gulf. And the airport security asked me more than twice if I was OK on the way home....tears galore. Just didn't want to come back. I really feel like a "fish out of water."

Thunder....Prayers for a good job for your son. Such a hard time right now.

SHirley, you did what you could...one of these times when that woman goes out...just lock the door sweetheart!! Sure can understand her being a mom and all...but she needs some common sense and understanding compassion. Seems she falls short in that catagory.

Wind is picking up, animals are jumpy....and I need to go to bed.

Good night, peaceful dreams.....

Debbie

Baton Rouge, LA

Okay - Dianne ! The Rhubarb Tour !

Head West to Shirley and Tubby..... to sample... Rhubarb _____ then it looks like head EAST to a stop at the "Canadian Triplets..."... Betty, YOU... and Susan ♪♫.... to sample others... then head to PA for Holly's Rhubarb recipe...

Cant remember who else had rhubarb... Deb? Laura?

So my Southern Ladies... LK... Crissy? ETC? Have ya'll ever had Rhubarb? Looks like a relative to Elephant ears... LOL

I read the entries to DG's Rhubarb plant... and someone mentioned dipping a stalk in sugar and eating on Grandma's front porch.... I mean... I suppose I could dip celery and sugar and it woudl be GOOD... ROFLOL! ((HUGS))
Mary

"The Rhubarb Tour" First Annual LOL

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Mary - not bitter, sour
And have you ever had a lemon meringue pie? Starts with a sour lemon.......... ^_^

Baton Rouge, LA

Oh Geez Deb ! We cross posted ! Well - THAT is what you need... you need to get your feet in the sand...

I have serious Beach withdrawals... and I'm only 300 miles away... so definitely understand your pain....

When I get really stressed.... I do try to just find a natural body of water to gaze upon... but NOTHING does it like the Gulf of Mexico for me... My sis always tells me to stay with her when I visit Ft Walton but I tell her "I'm not driving 300 miles and staying somewhere that I can't see a BEACH out of my back balcony !"....

Luckily I'm headed there twice in May.....Nephew graduation and Niece wedding... but still...... short trips....

Wish I could plan a trip to get you down there gal !
((HUGS))
Mary

Verona, ON

Oh Mary, nothing, NOTHING like it in the world to eat a stalk fresh out of the patch - sugar on this is for wimps!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We used to hacve Rhubarb, back home in Michigan when I was growing up! Rhubarb and strawberry pie is really good!
Night everyone!

Thunder, saying prayers for your son tomorrow!

Baton Rouge, LA

Oh Susan and Dianne ! Ya'll are just so so funny ! You know... I've never really had a sweet tooth... but can eat the heck out of anything else....salty, sour, etc.....

Susan - you are right and I LOVE Lemon Meringue pie.... Love lemons...So that's a GOOD comparison...

Dianne... the Rhubarb "Purist"... okay on the Rhubarb Tour... I'll eat Fresh Raw Rhubarb when I make the stop at your house ! No Wimps Here ! LOL

My Canadian Friends "You Guys"... LOL ((HUGS))

I think I would like to try to grow some rhubarb here to grow. Bet I could make some cool clay things with the leaves. I may try to see if I can order some. If it grows fine,, if not,, well I have at least tried...lol I have grown some things here that everyone said I would not so I may just get lucky..

Shirly>>> I agree with Debbie, if she walks out the door lock it!! You are Tubby's love and you should be able to try to enjoy the time you have left with him, not be made to feel bad by these people. I am sooo steamed up by them.. Want me to come and sit on the porch with a shotgun for you?? I will bring Goober, she can be really mean if she needs to!!

Betty, please give Ann hugs for me and Goober!!

Mary and Debbie, I think we all need a beach trip!! Have either of you ever been to Jekyll Island, Ga.?? It is Stunning!! We went last May for my Birthday and stayed in a 2 bedroom house for a week for only $500.00. It was really lovely. Here is a pic

Well it looks like I am up for the rest of the night, so glad I got a new Amazon book order today.
Here you go Laura Recipe # 1
Rhubarb Custard Pie
2 eggs,
2 TBLS milk
1 1/2 c sugar (I use a bit less but we like ours quite tart)
3TBLS Minit Tapioca or flour
1/2 tsp (I use a generous one) nutmeg
4 c diced rhubarb
Beat eggs slightly and add milk.
Mix sugar, flour/minit tapioca and nutmeg, then stir in the eggs.
Add rhubarb and mix. Pour this into an uncooked 8 - 9 in pastryshell.Cover with a lattice top - I don't as DH prefers a whole crust on top.
Bake 375 - 400* for 50 min or until top is nicely browned. I usually put a piece of foil larger than the width of the pie plate under it. Rhubard does like to ooze out onto your nice clean oven.
*sometimes I just add halved strawberries to this recipe. I'll find my other Strawberry/Rhubarb Pie recipe today.
Holly I can't believe you have never had a piece of rhubarb pie - wish I could send you a nice, warm piece right now.
Laura I forgot to mention how surprised you will be as your rhubarb ages and spreads. It will eventually fill the whole space you have it in now. Can commiserate on the hauling in of soil - our house is built on the tail end of the Canadian Shield. At least 95% of the soil we use for gardens has been trucked in and DH and I have moved it all by hand to where we want it.Rhubard freezes well, I cut it up into pieces and store 4c of raw rhubarb per bag - all ready for a pie.
Sleeting outside now but no snow yet.
Dianne

Hugs to you Shirley.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oops here I is again, sitting waiting for curling iron to heat up lol

Thunder, so wish you son the best of luck this morning as he heads out for his interviews..what a tremendous amount of stress he'd rid himself of..know how much we wants his independence! Any news fro DIL and grandchild?

Mary, oh happy days, Rhubbarb Tour...means a spring tour to see it at it's best! I'm with Debbie and you, am at my best in Florida..we'll all have to find suitable housing that will enable us to move in with additional bedroom gor our dg friends

Dianne, thanks for the recipe..will give it a try, have containers of rhubarb in my freezer.. Did you get the thunder/lightening storm that passed during the night?
Kris, just love you sense of humor..especially love the beach photo's wow and double wow..another place I would love to visit..Gads i just need to win that lottery or find me an old man with mega $$$ who loves to travel.

Shirley, sorry your talk with MIL did not go well! We moms get pretty
protective of our children and tend not to see reason, but she must appreciate the extra work she's putting on you. Sure feel for you!
How did Tubby sleep last night? Probably better seeing as the two of you had a nice heart to heart chat..sending hugs..

Crissy, looking for holiday photo's

Better get a move on , waving to all, coffee is on and day old carrot cake, sorry, ate all the muffins

Must go look where this birdies are nesting, sure are chirping up a storm ...love listening to them

Hope they are singing in your neighborhood !

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura. How wonderful..how exciting is that!!!

All veggie garden? Bet you meet more gardening friends..now why did I nor remember you are on a base?? What is planned for today with the children seeing as it's school break..with Easter on the weekend are you odd in the trailer and if so where??

Listening to The Franky's on breakfast television, had an interesting story:

American falcon, left Rochester where she was born, Kendal is her name..laid her egg/eggs on ledge of a high rise..those who are tracking her will put some type of ledge protection so egg doesn't roll off..only 2'000 pairs left in North America

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning -

Well, we've been up and down again several times through the night. Tubby is chair having pepsi me coffee. I will call Dr. today and have him give me a different prescrip. for compazene. He sent out Phenergan this last time and it causes jerking and almost uncontrollable movement. He can't handle that.

I talked to the oldest girl last night and told her I doubt I'd have Easter. I'm tired and really don't want to cook and have to watch out for the grandkids. She was okay with that. They can stay at home and the kids can Easter egg hunt there and scream and holler all they want. They all have IL's they can spend the day with.

Crissy I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friends family. I haven't looked at any of the pictures, but Tubby's one sis and hubby live in Texas and they had alot of damage to their car and trailer house. They are alright and the rest can be replaced. I hate how storms can hit with such vengance God be with them all. Glad to hear that you had a great time on vacation. They just never last long enough.

Kris I'll be glad to send you a rhubarb plant also. You'll just have to d-mail me your address. Gobber is such a beauty. Yes she looks alot like you.
Love the dirftwood, I wish I had some also. Love the bullets. LOL

Dianne thanks for sharing the recipe. I will copy it off and try it sometime.

Mary, love the rhubarb tour, I'll make enough to take along to the northern ones so they get a sample of the different recipes. LOL

Betty hope you made it safely to work and the drive wasn't too bad. Old man winter just doesn't want to let go. Hope your Mom continues to improve and Jim doesn't have to wait long for his surgery. Prayers for them.

Well, will check back in later. Have a wonderful day to all.

Shirley

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty we have falcons in Omaha that live on the high rises and are watched all the time. It's interesting to see and watch their eggs hatch. Okay Betty, you win the lottery and buy a big resort so we have plenty of room for all DG to stay and lots of room for plants. You'll be able to hire the work done or we can all help out when we come to stay. LOL

Thunder prayers also for your son on his interview and the waiting and seeing can drive a person crazy.

Lexington Park, MD

Betty I do not live on base but right down the road from one. 5 miles maybe.
There are a couple of farms around but never had the chance to rent a patch of land to grow veggies on.
Is it really snowing again?
It has been cloudy here the past couple of days no sunshine but no rain since Sat.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Mary another thing we have in common. The water link, sometimes I just really need sometime by a big body of water. We don't live far from the Susquehanna River and there are plenty of creeks and lakes nearby. But sometimes I just really need the ocean. I just feel the need to go sit on a beach some place. LOL
Debbie, You might be very right about your depression connected to where you live. We have long time friends that lived near Oneida Lake and she quite often commented about the lack of sunlight in the winter and lack luster attitudes of her neighbors. She was sure they all had Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Elf, That goober is such a beauty, Love your pic of Driftwood Beach. I have been there a few times myself it is a beautiful spot.
