Best/Worse/What did I learn today..chat with friends!!

Dianne this is my first time trying to grow the rhubarb. We grew as kids on the farm. But we will see how it works out.Do you have a recipe for strawberry/rhubarb pie??

Grandma had rows of rhubbarb, bought a few roots a few years ago, didn't amount to much..perhaps this year

Farmer up the road has 1/2 acre of a few types..no need for me to grow I guess as I usually when making the cement rhubarb leaves get to keep and freeze the stalk

You will find Laura that once it takes it grows like a weed. I have separated mine several times over the years. Once even moving it over 300 miles yo our new place. I put some compost around it and nature does the rest. My oldest rhubarb plant is 34 years old! Still hale and hearty.I have a great recipe for Rhubarb Pie, Rhubard Strawberry Pie and also a Rhubarb Crunble that is wonderful. I will Dmail them to you. I just noticed that I have the recipe for Lemon Ginger Oatmeal Cake right here beside the keyboard, I will send that to you too.

For some reason not able to find fresh at local farmers market. Sold in the stores but does not taste the same.
My grandma used to do the strawberry/rhubarb but never passed on the recipe.
Watching the news and those storms were bad. So much damage.But great stories about people that made it out ok.
Sorry about the bad wheather you both have right now.

Thank you, thank you. I will sing the birthday song from you guys to Tubby when he gets back up. He was up, but I could see the Ambien I gave him last night was still working so he had me put him back to bed. Hopefully he will sleep a few more hours. he couldn't sleep last night so I gave him one, but I probably should have cut it in half. I have to call the Dr. and talk to him today so will see what he says. Well, I just got hiim back up, but he has that look in his eyes that I know he hasn't slept the drug off. He's having a hard time deciding what he wants, bless his heart.

Even though the girls mean well, they think the kids should be around him as much as possible, I know it gets to be too much. The noise he doesn't care for, at least they aren't fighting and screaming too much. The two older boys decided to shoot the bottle they were using for the bottle rockets they were setting off in the driveway and I'm pretty positive they were throwing fireworks at the dogs. The youngest girl decided to squirt liq. hand soap all over the rugs in the bathroom. So we will have to have a serious talk when they come back. The boys won't be shooting the BB gun, or the fireworks as they still haven't picked up all the stuff from the other day. They thought they could throw rocks at the house the other day. Mom's may not like me, but that won't be the first. They will have to be supervised for any of it. I can't leave them (his girls) with their Dad as they will ask things of him, especially about his life ins. and I'm not gonna allow it. They will find out when he passes and the will is read. His Mom means well, but having to wait on her besides is not alot of fun, she can get things herself, but likes to be waited on. She asks a millions of questions and says she can't see to call anyone, but goes downstairs to report to the family what is going on and what she thinks. I will give it my best to ignore, but it's hard. I personally don't care what his family thinks of our decisions, but it gets old having to defend them all the time. When you do try to tell her, she doesn't get the story straight, so you never know what she is telling them. Oh well, sorry for rattling on, I will put my big girl panties on and suck it up. Trust me I won't be afraid to tell them it's too much or that they need to leave if I have to. Sometimes family can drive ya to drink.

I'd like to get a few things done, but that is out of the question. I may see if my friend can come and stay with him for a bit so I can run into town and get what I need. I at least know that she could handle things and would call me right away. I'll see what I can come up with later today.

Now for all those whose lives have been touched by the storms, God be with you and in our prayers as well as we hope they are safe and sound. Prayers for all those who has injured or lost someone. I am sorry to hear of all the devastation the storms cause.

For everyone may God be with you all and help you in your daily struggles, help you to heal and please enjoy the day. May you all have SUN shining with you where ever you go or do.

Shirley, how long is Tubby's mom staying, hasn't it been about a week that she has been there? lordy know you want to be accommodating but you've enough to keep you going! No need for the girls to be prying into insurance and will..hate to think badly of them but is that the reason they are being so attentive? Know they haven't been around all that much prior to your letting them know how I'll Tubby is..sure hope that is not the case.

Glad you are strong enough to say enough is enough when you will find it's just too much!

Best I have cereal before I leave and still have to take the tires they took off Saturday and put them away..when you stay in bed all weekend you don't get much of a chance do do things you should be doing

Laura, you put the pot right into the ground and plant?

The round thingy you see is 48 inches in diameter. fill with dirt,compost and then you put bulbs in the new soil.
We have clay and nothing grows in that stuff so we do above the ground. I am hoping it works.

LindaKay thank you for the cake, it looks delicious. We'll have a piece in a little while.

Laura if you dig a hole and mix sand and compost or buy some planting mix and put in the hole that will help for all. I know it's alot extra work, but sand and compost helps in clay. You shouldn't have to dig the rubarb up then. I have more plants then any one person should, like 15. So rubarb a plenty for all that want it. I just have to check now and then for seed heads and remove them. The more you use it the better, and remember to pull it not cut it.

I have to thread lightly as not to upset Tubby if I have to decipline the family. He doesn't like to hurt anyone's feelings. Yes, at the beginning of the 2010, when I called his girls for some help so I wouldn't have to stop working, they called him on a 3way call and told him that they would not help and he better set me straight. They said them nor the grandkids should have to give up things to help and remember that he bought the life ins. for them. He told me what they said when I got home, I was flabbergasted to say the least and I know how that hurt him deeply. I could never think of saying such a thing to my parent. We weren't brought up that way and neither were they. They will have to live with it, not me. There's was nothing he wouldn't do for the girls if they needed help so it is really sad. Family has always been important to him. I know I need to learn to forgive them and with God's help someday I may.

The oldest girl's IL's sent a pkg. of prayers from her Bilble study and a note asking if I wanted them to come see him. NO! If you couldn't come see him when he was better, why come now. He said no, he doesn't want them to see him the way he is now, and he doesn't visit really. He will listen but just not say much. I know his family brought their cameras the other day and thank goodness they didn't bring them out as I would have had to tell them no. I try to get his Mom to say good night before he turns on his side and she always wants to go over later after he gets comfortable and then he has to turn again. I'm gonna get my point across yet. She always has to ask him after he's been there for awhile if he's sleeping and wake him. Drives me crazy. Okay enough of venting and thanks for listening.

Chilly out there..

Looking at the clock, mom is in the operating room having her knee done .. hope it's going well..she said she's getting spinal and not being put to sleep..not sure if I'd like that! Told me my SF Jim is not a telephone person, wait until later this afternoon and call him at home..hoping Sharon or Michael will also be there and be able to update me.

Eyes are not quite as blurry this morning but headache loves me, doesn't want to stay.. top pressure number was 176 this morning, forget what the bottom one said....good memory but short!



Shirley, wanted to send off a birthday card, had one done up just with all the to-do I didn't get it mailed so thought I'd personally call and sing Happy Birthday even though off key on behalf of us all....hope you knew it was me calling at that time of day that you put batting in his ears..lol

Suzanne booked appointment for the Hamilton office tomorrow so tonight will switch the telephones over and work from home tomorrow..just maybe I can be focused enough to sew..need some swap blocks done and heating pads (?) can't even focus to remember what they call

Judy, had I known you 'd have a few days sewing, I'd have sent you my material and you could have done my blocks...

How are you doing today pain wise? listening to the radio coming in and they were talking about that therapy that they string you up (lol) and take all the weight off your body and it tends to help, ever had it done..sorry, my mind is not doing well today, cannot remember the words..but I'm sure you'll know what I mean..

Betty, do you have an appointment with your Dr, for your high blood pressure! Make sure to call and make one if not! He needs to know what's going on!

Betty, no, that was just a picture I found.....yes he is talented with is cakes.

No, I have not had that therapy.....but that is what Diannes Hubby is going thru. They do have the capabilities at my place but no need for it with my specific injuries. RIght now, my pain is my "muscles" reacting to the work out. I am actually noticing better mobility....so thats a good thing.

Shane is on spring break this week. Tomorrow I have PT...so think I will stay home today and get a few things done.

Betty, I do not like the way your memory is now involved in this. Might want to call the Physician...to make sure the meds the clinic prescribed are OK for you with your kidney and other issues. Please...do it. Tell them whats going on at the Physican with your blood pressure. Something is causing the problem suddenly....high blood pressure just doesn't happen overnight without a problem hidden.

See Betty, Linda and I both can't be wrong....don't make us put you in the naughty chair!

That walk-in clinic lady gave me a whole list of things I need done..waiting for everyone to get back from holidays, when there is only me, me has to be here..lol

Just puddling around, not active..brought in the 3 panels I have 1/2 way finished for washroom closet..been a year since I looked at them, anyway, telephones and clients have filled most of the morning so didn't have time to set up..Suzanne thinks it's a good idea my painting..she says that I totally relax when painting..

Betty, I think Dianne is off and running with DH to the therapist office as he has been in so very much pain. She was going with him today to have a chat.

I made up a bed on the couch to take a nap, went to take my BP meds...and the dog and kitten took up residency on my bed!

Wasn't suppose to be busy but am, drats, wanted to get back to those 3 trompe l'oeil panels..perhaps another day!

Let's hope Dianne gets some answers as to what they can do to ease hubby's pain.

Should really call Ann to see how things are doing, but what you don't want is when he's nearby having to explain that things are going wrong..

talk about a haul...bet you've got them all planted right? Goober looks as though she enjoyed the gathering more than everyone else..sooo remember my times with grandma, always with an older group..never seemed to fit in as well with kids...

Sharon is on her way to the hospital to check on mom, we've called several times, Aunt Muriel who is at the house says she hasn'theard as yet! Hopefully by the time I get home tonight I'll kow how she's doing..wish I knew before leaving work because I'd head down to the city myself.

Painted for about 1/2 hr...been so long since I started these 3 panels, will take me awhile to get back into what I'm trying to accomplish..want them done and on closet door for Barb/Norm's visit..lol

Mom is now in recovery, in pain but doing well! she'll be glad that's over with...

almost time to go home..you know it's the first time in over a month that I feel my eyesight being much clearer..I'm thrilled with it..headache but easing off..oh happy days!

Oh Betty, that itself is wonderful news!! Maybe worrying about your Mom was part of the stress.

How long are they keeping her at the hospital? They should send her to a "rehab" til she can get around easily....poor Jim.

Didn't get news on Jim yet, Sharon's at the hospital, mom said she wanted NO company..so she decided to go and bring flowers on behalf of both of us, likely she'll run into Jim and find out specifics on his findings today.

They did tell mom that normally she'd be home by Thursday but if not doing well then they would keep her and put her in an upper floor room where they can do therapy from there..

Now Debbie, you know my mom, can't see her saying all is well..shaking my head with a smile on my lips, nope, can't see that..

Yes, I know...but just knowing she made it threw surgery without an issue has to be a load off. Now just the "yes that is moms way" complaining to go on about. You are right, you know it is expected along with a boat load of guilt thrown at you....no matter what.

Get some rest....and did you call the doctor???

Betty, glad to hear your Mom is out opf surgery. The next few weeks will be rough, but she will be glad she had the surgery!
