Okay, thanks, Bill. I am considering Oso Easy roses from them.
Spending Spree part 5
You all have been so busy! I've barely decided where I need new plants, and haven't chosen any yet. But I did buy some succulents to make a succulent planter for under the eaves on the deck (most of the plants from jadepoint.com, which was very nice to deal with.)
I have a heather that is mostly dead. I'm ready to give up on heather for my climate--it will make it for a few years, then one winter it emerges looking horrible and I throw it out. I'm wondering about a really dwarf evergreen instead. I want something that looks good all the time and will stay less than 2 feet in diameter (or can be pruned to stay that small) and height no more than 18". Anyone have a good candidate to suggest?
Many dwarf conifers to choose from gneiss. Check out Bloom River. Just make sure drainage is very good.
I picked out 2 Dwarf Alberta Spruce 'Rainbows End' for the new house.
Nice. Like the JI you chose, too! Victor, our local Agway sells Oso Easy roses.....last year I bought Peachy Cream.....
Good size/price, Robin?
Allison, that is so heartbreaking to get such damaged plants like that. I would have been so upset. I'm glad they're making good on replacing them. The post office should really be much more careful with stuff like that. What is wrong with them?
Love the succulent planter, GG.
Karen
Allison, glad they came thru in replacing them, I would have been heartbroken
Celeste, you crack me up!
Love that succulent planter, Klehms has some great minis and dwarfs
http://www.songsparrow.com/2011/plantlist.cfm?type=WOODY,&startrow=1&pageType=plantlist&subtype=junior,
Has anyone here gotten trees from Klehm's before? I was just eying some of their things. I really like this!

I think when I get my next paycheck I'm going to order this one for my sister's birthday in June. She said I didn't have to get her anything, but I know she really wants one of these, and this one is choice.

Nice, Allison. I only bought from them long ago. I think Bill has recently.
hi karen - i just for some conifers from them and was happy - weeze orders from them too
Victor, the rose was on sale at the end of the year....I think I paid $7 for it......mature size, but it's a small, ground-hugging rose.....
I know - I have Peachy Cream. Nice round mound about 1.5 ft. I ordered from a different place anyway.
Thanks, Bill. I think I will place an order with them in a week or so for that weeping Norway spruce.
Allison, looks like you got a lot of nice stuff there. Looks great!
Karen
I really like Khlehm's. Their shipping can be pricey though, for a single plant.
the stock blooms smell sooooo good
The entire garden was fragrant today! Pieris, hyacinth, viburnum, spirea Ogon, lilac...
My lilac only gave me two blooms this year. I'm assuming it was last year's drought that inhibited bud production. Do you think a hard prune this year would help?
I think I killed a lilac by hard pruning it
My pieris has either buds or new growth, not sure, just got it last year
Okay, then, I won't try that :)
Allison what is that in the lower left corner in the 1st pic?
either the bear's breeches or a petunia.. if you mean the breeches you can see it better in the 2nd photo.. it was Randy's pick
I'm not sure you can kill a lilac....short of napalm and a match.
Just got back from a florist/garden center (just to look mind you) and brought home 6 pots for $6.00 That was all the cash in my pocket. 2 daffs and 4 hyacinths. Each pot had 3 bulbs.
I like Acanthus. I moved mine last fall, hopefully it will like it's new spot better.
That was a nice bargain!
Great bargain! If you want to prune your lilac, Weeze, an article I read said to remove 1/3 of the branches.....especially the oldest ones.....
Jan the plantfiles page says it's zone 7... I am guessing to container it and put it in the GH over winter.. or do you think it would survive up here?
It survives fine here, but I'm warmer than you. It might be pushing it for you, though. Unless you have it in a protected area near the house and sunny.
That's how I usually prune it, Marilyn. I think it was the drought, so I'll look forward to next year. Barring no drought this year.
thanks Jan... guess I have to container it.. and either bring it in or GH it
One of my lilacs is just showing some purple....the others, nothing yet.
My lilacs are getting ready. Can't wait to smell their lovely perfume!
Karen
I love the fragrance of lilacs. Alas, mine are finished.
Already Jan? Mine have barely any buds yet!!
it amazes me every year how far ahead Jan is compared to here
She has fall color already.
LOL.. hope not... that would push me over the edge for sure
