Spending Spree part 5
nice jen!
Everything looks healthy, Jen. Iris, what varieties of TBs did you order?
I ordered 3 TBs: Sassy Tart, Love & Devotion & In the Morning. + 3 SDBs. We mainly order medians.
I like medians too.TB's need staking here.
Went and got my Stewartia today. It's a about 8 ft tall. We managed to fit it in the Subaru. Really love Rarefind, great people working there!
I find all eastern nursery employees and owners are in a good mood now. Later in the season its another story.
Yikes I just had to go and look at Swan Island Dahlias...couldn't resits ordered 6 of them!
Which ones, Ronnie? I ordered a bunch myself.....
You will love it, Weeze. Great size to start with!
Thanks so much for posting a photo. One mans great is anothermans so-so.
I have hesitated to buy from them but now I will go boldly where I havnt gone before. I just put hosta Captain Kirk on my Bluestone 1/2 price sal list.
Cant ya tell?
Looks nice, Karen. Never bought from them.
Jo, you will like Annie's. She has great stuff, so much to choose from. Not everything is hardy here, but they do have a lot of northern hardy stuff. I got 2 orders from them last year and was very pleased with what I got. They pack the stuff really well, too.
Karen
We cross posted, Victor. Check them out sometime. Shipping is pricey, though.
Karen
Shipping is pricely everywhere. I wonder how some of mail order everywhere stays in business.
Yes - fuel prices to blame. Nice tropicals, Karen??
I ordered from them after you posted your penstemon photos, Karen....glad to see the plants look terrific. Jo, Capt. Kirk's been on my wish list.
Marilyn I ordered these dahlias from Swan
CYNTHIA LOUISE -
PEACHES -
SUNNY -
SWAN'S GOLD MEDAL -
TOUCHE'
PUNKIN SPICE -
I love Annie's but do hate her shipping, it's always been high even before the fuel hike.
I got Captain Kirk either last year or the year before, and it's doing very well. I planted it at my pond, which won't be getting much shade anymore, as we had to cut down that clump of birch trees there. I will have to see how it does. Might still get some shade, as there is a big maple nearby.
Victor, Annie's has some sub-tropical stuff for zones 9-10. Here's one I love. It's not available now, but can be put on your wish list. Annie said (via facebook) that they will be getting more in a few weeks. I'd like to know if it goes dormant and if it can be overwintered inside. I would love to get one.
Marilyn, glad to hear you ordered from them. You'll love their plants.
Maybe Annie's shipping is high because of how they pack. They have special cardboard inserts that they put the pots into to keep them from shifting during shipping. Plus they take the plants from the pots and put them in plastic bags, then put them back into the pots, to keep the soil from falling out, I guess. All that care and extra work they have to do, maybe they figure they should be getting some extra. Plus they arrive fast.
Ronnie, I need to go look up those dahlias now.
Karen
Ronnie, those look like nice choices. I would love to order some myself. You are such an enabler!
Karen
So Ronnie, I just had to order some dahlias. Planning to use them in containers this year. Here's what I'm getting.
Patty Cake
Raz-ma-taz
E Z Duzzit
Giggles
Karen
Maybe her zone is why I had not ordered anything but seeds from AA.
so many beauties on order.. can't wait to see pics!!
LOL Karen I think we are all enablers...I keep eying up Annie's!!
Jo, Annie's has lots of perennials that are hardy for our zones. I have several things I got from her last year that came through our winter just fine. Of course she has many annuals that are annual in all zones. Then she has a lot of stuff you'd have to overwinter inside, and if you're limited on space, that could be a problem. Looking at many of the stuff she sells gives me zone envy.
Beautiful hostas! I'll have to check out their sale. I have yet to order from them, though they have many things I want.
Karen
A stunning collection of hostas, Jo......Ronnie & Karen, very pretty choices.....I ordered Iceberg, Ginger Willo, Ripples,Lemon Kiss and bought a mixed pkg of Akitas from Lowe's....
Look for their half price sale in mid May. It used to last for a month, last year it was only for a few weeks and there were exceptions on plants.
Thanks, Jo. I look out for it.
Marilyn, nice choices.
Karen
Thanks....all I have to do is plant them....I like the idea of putting them in containers....
hd had a weeping larch that was kinda nice - i did not bring it home. serious space issues currently:)
Marilyn, I don't have room for them in the beds, so containers it is. Much easier to put them away for the winter, too. I'm wondering if they can be left in the containers and put into the cellar for the winter. Anyone here know?
Karen
Very nice, Victor! Great assortment.....Karen, I'm the last person to ask about saving dahlias....I've tried everything, & they either rot or wither.....
Nice haul, Victor!
Very nice!
Thanks. Very impressed with the Bloom River stuff. Huge root masses and great healthy, large plants.
