I am lusting.

Thomaston, CT

That phantom petunia is gorgeous! One of my nepetas, which is low growing, reseeds all over the place....the other, a pink one, is well behaved. Pixie, photos of your JMs when they leaf out, please!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

congrats - celeste!

i have a lot of luck with nepeta walkers low - nice combo indeed

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks, maybe I'll plant tulips again this fall. I have a white nepeta also, barely spreads at all.

Went to Rarefind last week with a gift certificate. What fun to pick out plants without looking at prices!

Looks great, Allison! Nice time of year. As I clean some neglected areas out, I am seeing room for plants!

Thomaston, CT

Like the color on the portulacas, Allison....glad you had a fun shopping trip, Weeze. Victor, I was thinking the same thing today....very neglected area, & I hope what I was cutting down was Virginia Creeper & not poison ivy vines!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they do look so close.. hope it wasn't PI either

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Creeper does not have the hairy stems/roots. Also has five leaves, though they do start with three.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Allison, you're swimming in plants! Good for you.

I've never reacted to PI. Hope it's creeper Marilyn!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You got some nice stuff there, Allison, but your killing me! I looked at them and wanted to bid on some stuff myself. I could get in some big trouble! Those are some good deals you got.

I already got myself in trouble ordering from Annie's Annuals and Perennials this morning. I ordered a bunch of stuff from them last year, and most everything did so well. They send good stuff. Here's what I ordered.

Verbascum nigrum 'Dark Mullein' http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/v%20-%20z/verbascum_nigrum_dm.htm
Angelica pachycarpa http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/a/angelica_pachycarpa.htm
Clarkia concinnia 'Pink Ribbons' (2 of these) http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/b%20-%20c/clarkia_concinna_pr.htm
Dipogon lignosus 'Cape Sweet Pea' http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/d%20-%20g/dipogon_lignosus_csp.htm
Lewisia cotyledon 'Sunset Strain' http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/l/lewisia_cot_sunset_strain.htm
Nicotian alata grandiflora http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/n/nicotiana_alata_grandiflora.htm
Penstemon X gloxinioides 'Midnight' http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/p%20-%20r/penstemon_gloxioides_midnight.htm

nice stuff Karen!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks! Looking forward to getting it. I chose a shipping date of April 19th. Will have to pot up the stuff before putting it in the gardens.

I am loving the maturing shrubs in my garden. Really cutting down on the needed spring cleanup. Also, as they expand and fill in, they are erasing problem weedy areas. Wish I had seen the light earlier. My ultimate garden design now is mostly flowering shrubs and trees, with clems throughout the garden - on shrubs and structures, with selected long- blooming, easy-care perennials (dl's, hostas, hellebores, columbine, etc.), and annuals and tropicals mainly in containers and baskets.

Well, your place always looks nice, Victor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Karen.

How happy are you guys with Lazy S's?? Good stuff??

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I like them Victor. Their plants are a bit smaller than Fairweather or Rarefind, but their prices are a bit smaller too. Healthy stock, good shipping. Everything I got from them is thriving except for one ajuga that is struggling. Struggling ajuga is like an oxymoron. If you're looking at shrubs, I would approximate1- 2 years behind FW or RF as far as size/maturity.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Weeze. Considering them for dwarf crapes.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

plants are small - i now look close at the size/price difference - they do have a huge selection and stand behind the product - never had one die yet!

Thomaston, CT

Karen, love what you ordered, especially that purple penstemon....Victor, none of the vines had leaves on them yet, but I did notice some hairy stems :(......

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thank, Marilyn. Yes, the purple penstemon is a beauty. Here is one that I ordered from them last year and it overwintered nicely.

Oh, I'm ordering that, too....love it!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow I do too!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh that catmint is walkers low

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

recieved my order of little conifers from stanley and sons - all very healthy and look good - may make a trough garden for many of them while they grow up.

also recieved my clem order from debbie a silverstar vinery - just huge root systems - and a nice bonus clem!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

nice bonus Bill

Does anyone grow strawberries? I am considering a strawberry pot or just regular pots, the strawberry pots are kind of expensive, are they worth it? Can I get good results from regular pots?
I saw some plastic strawberry pots that might overwinter better than terra cotta, but they certainly aren't as nice.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have stawberries that i use for ground cover - it is war between me and the chippies and red squirrels

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here it is a fight between all those & the yorkies!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sounds nice, Bill. Would love to see some pics.

Karen

Thomaston, CT

Debi, the fruit farm that I pass weekly to get to my art class used to have strawberries planted in the ground....then a few years ago, they switched to plastic pots....I took my granddaughters picking there last year, & the berries were easy to pick & large....the pots just stay in the field all winter...of course this year, they were totally covered by the snow....terra cotta pots have to be brought inside, & replanted every year....

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

O NO. Allison and Celeste reminded me about eBay.... I had been so successful in staying away, too.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Robin, were they regular pots or strawberry pots? I like the idea of plastic staying put all year even though they aren't as attractive. Although I may still need to move them up against the house for better protection.
