oopsie.. LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Glad we don't have anything deadly here.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well Hope finished obedience 1 today... she still needs a heck of a lot of work.. but I do feel the class was a good reminder .. and being around other dogs helped me control her growling & barking at them.. today was exhausting though.. for some reason she was feisty... the owner of the school went to a trade show last week and brought us all goodie bags back.. nice tote, a bag of blue buffalo food, a bag of Beg-Als and some coupons... sad to think it was our last week there.. might work with her for a few weeks and schedule ob. 2 with her

Victor - this IS my "social life".

Thomaston, CT

Allison, I went to advanced obedience with my dale....he was soooo good in the class....so horrible outside of it!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

this place tells me I have to do the same training everywhere I go... or else she will be good in class or at home.. going to be more work out there though .. figured I would start in the back yard... and work my way to the driveway where there is more distractions

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Training is so important......and training outside the home will reward you for years to come. My GSD, George, was the best trained dog I ever had. I took him everywhere a dog was allowed. Never devoted money to his training, but certainly devoted time. He know English, German ( well only what I knew) and hand signs. I remember one time I had him at a park teaching him out, down, stay, the crawling call back. He did it perfectly, and I heard a round of applause. I had no idea that a group of people were at the edge of the field watching. I should have known.......George knew, but never got distracted. What a good boy he was.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

People clap when my wife makes me do those things.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

what is the crawling back used for?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Control. He wasn't allowed to run back willy nilly. He'd have to come back 10 feet.. stop, 10 feet.. stop etc. When we were done he got the big arm wave and could run back at a gallop

Victor, I'd give applause for that too ^_^

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Still working with Wall-e, he is a pretty good dog, just a big doofus! He knows he is supposed to wait at the door til the humans go in first but sometimes tries to sneak in and all I had to do is say "eh" and he sits back down

Thomaston, CT

Wanted to work with Robs everywhere, but because of his biting, can't do it.....Victor, I would PAY to see that! Weeze, George sounds like he was a wonderful companion.....my most obedient dog was my wolfie.....

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I always wanted a wolfie, but changed my mind when I read one of their nicknames is the heartbreak breed. Several years after I got George, I got Charcoal, a Lab. I always referred to them as the sergeant at arms and the court jester. Charcoal died at six and I was heartbroken. Like wolfies, that is far too young.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Same with us, we wanted a Newfie, but they are not long lived either, wasn't spending $1000 for a dog to only be around 6yrs.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I didn't know that about Newfies, another breed I love. I wonder if Bernies are short lived? They're another one I would like to have one day, even though I tell Jack, No More Dogs.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Bernies were having a cancer problem, the last I read they are trying to find out why.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Just looked briefly, 6-8 years, 50% of cancer. Sad.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Cool tree frog, Marilyn. I think it might be a gray tree frog. http://www.harvardpress.com/Home/AllArticles/tabid/2190/ID/5423/PageID/5423/Its_Only_Natural_Heard_but_seldom_seenmdashgray_tree_frogs_get_a_grip.aspx

I have heard of those Colorado River Toads mentioned in that dictionary. I saw a tv show where a teenager had tried to get high doing that. I think he might have died. Can't remember what show it was on. One that didn't last long, I think. About agents investigating odd crimes, kind of like an X-Files type of show, but not quite as much 'out there' as that one was.

Most large breed dogs live shorter lives than their smaller cousins. Mixed breeds have better chances of having less problems than the pure breeds.

soooo Michele & I decided we are going to switch the dogs over to blue buffalo.. A. I like the product better than wellness.. B. my sister with the dog store in OH can get it for me at cost.. and says it's real cheap C. it seems I am feeding way too much food to them now to keep weight on.. didn't realize they all lost weight after I switched from Evo... Stormy actually pointed out that Lily looked skinny... and she was right

Wolfies are indeed the "heartbreak" dogs! Couldn't have another.....one large breed dog that does live a long time is the Scottish deerhound.....my son & DIL were interested in a Bernese, but the vet told them not to get one because of the cancer that runs through the breed. Karen, thanks for the photo....I think that's what was on my gate. Weeze, love that photo! He looks like a real lion up there! As far as feeding goes, Suey eats Premium Edge, but Robs can only tolerate Natural Balance lamb & brown rice.....never had a dog with such a delicate digestive system!

I have been feeding Patches Nature's Recipe.

I feed Wall-e Blue Buffalo and every once in awhile he gets raw treats(filet mignon trimmings last week)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - eats better than many people!

Cute Allison!

Bugsy discovered a chippie today. Now he has no interest in going up the tree, wants to stay at ground level. The chippie escaped unharmed.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's good.. always good not to have to do clean up duty

I am sooo happy Jily is running around again

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

They look very playful today, Allison!

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it happens a few times a day... but Jily usually stayed out of it with her surgery.. so nice to see her play again

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They had my kids cracking up, esp when they stepped on the duck

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I couldn't help but laugh either... they don't even like that thing and I think it's the coolest.. LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

and now the kids are pretending they're Hope and Jily and chasing each other around the family room

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oopsie

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Eh, it's ok... will tire them out

South China, ME(Zone 5a)
