Good luck to you and Xena.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

It is back. The gray strays are taking care of it. They didn't ask if they can have a pet!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Yank!

The tick had fed, for 4-6 days. The lyme disease test came back negative BUT they dont know how long it as on her and it might not give the right reading.

3 teeth have issues maybe 4. They put her on an antibiotic they use for lyme disease but it will also take care of the teeth problem for now. Once the antibiotics are done and it comes back

Found a mobile vet clinic that will Neuter and give vaccines for $77. Think that I am going to go that way. My vet would be about $200.

Sherrie, glad Xena is going to be OK! Memory, you are a wonderful cat caregiver.....

Xena ate this morning, a bit skiddish but ate. The meds must be working!!! Oh what a relief it is.

It is. Little cat has not been around for 2 days. Guess he found his way home. :)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Little cat has still not been around. (Yay for me!)

Major project at my house is writing an independent research project with my 9 year old neighbor on Fisherman Bats. Last Saturday his Mom came over with the instructions and asked for help. Sunday I took Eric (this is the boy that I tutored in reading two years ago) to the Library to look for books on bats. The Children's Librarian helped us find several and we sat on the carpet and he read the book to me! We have to write the actual short paper today as it is due Friday and I work all week. We have the Bibliography done except for the book I bought him on Fisherman Bats that arrived yesterday. (There is only ONE book written on them and I was able to find it!) I can't believe that in second grade independent research projects are being done these days. I think I was still having nap time when I was in second grade. The times, they are a changing. Anyone know what a second grade report should look like?

Thomaston, CT

Second grade research reports were up in the hallway last time I subbed....I was very impressed....they were done on poster board with photos, & drawings, & lots of info written underneath......I can't believe what kids are doing in kindergarten....last night my GD asked for spelling help with a story she was writing for her teacher....she knew the sentences ended with periods, & was able to to figure out 'rainy' ended in a y...spelled all the smaller words correctly.....did I know how to hold a pencil in K? Probably not!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Uh-o. We finished our project and there isn't lots of writing. But I learned an amazing amount about bats. Maybe that counts?

All I know about bats is they will suck your humming bird feeder dry over night.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

really?.. if they eat the skeeters... they can drink it all!!!!

Thomaston, CT

Well, Memory, if your student knows his bat info, it should be fine.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

they eat lots and lots and LOTS of skeeters! I'm thinking about asking his Dad to build me a bat house. I have to check again to see if I have a good place to hang it.

The bats "we" reported on eat fish and fiddler crabs. They can also swim and have cheek pouches to store food like squirrels.

Thomaston, CT

Oooh, cute!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Well - not exactly the word I would use for them . . .

Maybe it's better that the child's report isn't wordy; teachers usually know when a kid has been overly helped by an adult, and it's sometimes regarded as "cheating" if it smacks of parental work.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Well I didn't help with the wording at all. And he did copy some from the book - which I wasn't happy about . . .

Thomaston, CT

Second graders don't know the difference.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

He did have lots of fun drawing and coloring his bat and then drawing lots of little fish for the bat to eat. He was definately excited about reading the books - me too! LOL!

One mounted on another. oh my fooking lord, Mr had a tick on him. We got it off and it loooks like a tick on a tick. I can almost see 2 heads, lots of antennas.

I will try to get a pic

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww... nasty!!!

I have to say I love that there were no transition tummy problems changing over to the blue buffalo food.. not even one loose poop.. and they seem to love it.. now I have to try and get some weight on Eros.. he is such a skinny thing.. looks like a mini coyote with his long legs and skinny body

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ewww I hate ticks. Do you use Advantix or Frontline on him???

Sherrie, glad to hear that Xena is okay. Yuck on that double tick! I can't stand ticks!

Oh, Chewie and Teddy are cuties! I especially like Chewie.

Memory, glad you found such a good deal on spay/neutering and shots. That's really cheap! Oh, and my vet would charge a lot more than $200 for all that.

Teddy got bigger than they expected him to right??... they are both cute!!!

There is 2 ticks now in the jar. They were mating and separated. This is truley one of the most disqusting episodes I have encountered.
