Hello All, Haven't had time to read everything yet but I will. Came home from work to a nice dinner and am just sitting down watching the news and working my way thru all the posts. I glanced at the posting this morning but didn't have time to respond. I'll start with Mary's request. Here are a few closer looks at that new shade bed. There are 4 or 5 different heucheras, some hosta, hellebore, columbine, ivy.

Beautiful, never think of planting ivy in the garden...
How did your day go? Is the set up right now heavy manual labor? Lucky you, home cooked meal..what a treat!

Took my camper over to the canvas maker tonight..had brought the tent unit over on Friday. He picked up the material and wanted to get started so now he has both he can get at it..told him no rush but do want it back by May 1st...closest airport Shirley is Toronto, as I've said if any want to visit cheapest is to fly into buffalo, nice little airport to get in and out of

Elf/Kris, Love your pic of your knight in shining armor. LOL Ric and I went to LV years ago. The Excalibur was the new hotel in town at the time.
So it is a little hard to see what this is. It is a living wreath that sits on a stand and it is in that bed. It has mini hosta, ivy and impatiens

Have to be careful with ivy. It can really take over. I will have to keep a good eye on it. I spent most of the day on a computer doing training sessions. Also an hour or two training with the cashiers. I am not a cashier but they want us trained as I might have to jump in on occasion. I got up this morning wondering why I thought I might want to do this. Now when I will be busiest in the garden. Then later when I was training with the cashier I was thinking how really good it is to do and try different things. Lets see if I can find another pic of that bed. In this picture you can see the living wreath in place.

Hello All ;

Holly - very Pretty ! I'm guessing those were taken last year? Certainly there would not have been that much growth this year in your area? but maybe I'm wrong.... I always thing up north means snow... but there are pockets that are warmer.... I dont' think Lowes realizes how blessed they are to have you there...all the customers will be coming in to ask about how to grow this and that !

Betty - the hummingbird cam is So so cute... will have to show DH...
LK - Betty beat me to it ... was gonna say... that's 12 'stops' to visit your DG friends.... LOL....They did the right thing... glad I don't have to boycott Best Westerns now !

Crissy - Shallots are those little mini onions w/ green tops ? folks around here eat them raw on veggie trays...

Shirley - That's fine! Let's just see if I can grow them... I'm rather ashamed that I was unable to sprout any that Tubby sent... maybe this will 'redeem me'.... I can always find a home for them... I should plant in the fall ... right?

Dianne... Muzzle Canadian Geese ! HA ! Hey - I see geese from time to time here... are they lost ? Love the little "hamlet"... My parents grew up in a very small town. By the time I was 10 ... there was a Stop Sign. At different times.....Grandpa was the Mayor... Uncle was Sheriff.... maternal Grandma was Elementary School Principal... there was no High School... I have land there now.....

Elf - what a Great pic ! Will need to see what you are bringing for the swap ! Does it seem early to have this? not all my plants have shown up yet LOL..

Although we got some major weather last night.... so I'm sure when I see the yard next will be quite different....

Debbie... Glad to know that your Mom had her wish. I think that would be mine..... My mom wanted to end her life in her own home. Sis and I really argued over that. Sis won and Mom was in Dsis house. I still don't know who was 'right' perhaps she was perhaps I was. I mean I am 300 miles away and sis was 5 miles away....but still thought Mom should go where SHE wanted to... still I wasn't the one 'there' when she passed. We had just driven back from visiting.

I'll pop back in a bit...
((HUGS))

Had a late night at work, and have an early mornin' tomorrow...will have to catch up tomorrow after work.....Y'all sleep well and then have a great day

Baton Rouge, LA

Hi Thunder ! Wondering if your DS finished the book "Whirligig"... what he thought of it... if you were sending to Judy any time soon???

If not ... I might just send out another... seems I had two copies! Who'd have thought ! LOL

Verona, ON

Well Mary you are not too far off the mark about the weather up here and gardening. Although I do have some crocus in bloom and noticed in the new bulb garden I have some things popping through the dirt. Wanted to get all the leaves off of the gardens today but decided it was too cold for the poor little darlings.Sleet tomorrow and wet snow on Fri and Sat according to the WL. Ugh!
Ham loaf was delicious and the asprargus was very tender. DH was quick to reimnd me that I usually make Cucs in Sour Cream to go with the ham loaf but I forgot tonight. Oh well asparagus works for me!
Holly it sounds like you are enjoying yourself even though most of your time is on training on the moment. Great idea to know how to run the cash - often you need that extra cashier to keep things moving.
OK need to turn the dishwasher on - we are billed on our hydro according to time usage. Off peak hours are after 9 pm until 7 am and then all weekend.
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Dianne - I would love the recipes! Ham loaf... Cuc's in Sour Cream...

We had a plethora of cukes a few years ago and I found a great asian freezer recipe..... just saved too many .....

We won't have cukes again unless I plant them this year...which I hope to do this weekend...
problem has been my thumb.. stopped by urgent care today and it's infected... DR. prescribed 2 new antibiotics and wants me to baby it a bit...it's hurting a bit now... is that because I'm thinking about it ? LOL

HUGS to all,
Mary

Verona, ON

Oh Mary I was hoping that your thumb was healing nicely. Drats! As was thinking of you this morining - 4 of my Hibiscus I keep in the house over the winter have several blooms on them. Just beautiful!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning All!

Holly your flower beds make me look forward to when mine all look like that. I'll just keep plugging away. It sure sounds like work will be okay once you get past all the training. You'll do fine. I always liked it when I went in some place and the person I asked a question from had knowledge of what I was talking about. You will be an assest.

Mary yes plant them in the fall. Tubby has done some in the freezer and then started them, but I like the fall thing. Stick 'em in the ground and let Mother Nature take it from there. That's my kinda work. LOL! Did you ever freeze those cucs in that reciepe? I have a reciepe but have never tried it. Cucs & Sour Cream are delicious. Now that gets my mouth watering. Tubby loves them.

Betty I remember traveling through Winnepeg on the way to Red Lake. They always have huge baskets of flowers hanging down the main drive to where I would turn off. It was so lovely. I think it always makes a town look nice and inviting, but never got to stay there and look around.

Dianne I'm sure those hibiscus will be beautful. I always enjoyed the ones I had at the beauty shop. I had two big windows to the north and they did great. I gave them to my Mom when I sold it and they still bloom for her.

Well, I better start in before the boss wakes up. I'll spray paint the other side of the vent and move a few things. My glasses are downstairs so I think I'll do something down there for awhile till I him stir.

Have a great day to all and hope the bad weather is on it's way out as this is the last day of March and the sun shines brightly for all, wether it be inside or out!

Oh ya coffee is on, nothing special just Folger's and I'll put the coffee cake in the oven if ya all come!

Shirley

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, I'm here for a cup of Folgers Shirley .. Yummy so much better than my brand!

Shirley absolutely love the photo's.. A few years ago there wad a workshop for a live wreath but class filled almost as soon as it was announced! Any thought on how we could start one..do your neighbors garden as much as you? My neighbor looks over at my gardens and says she's shamed because she starts gardens then looks over at mine and gives up..I tell her mine are only 5 years old and not yet mature , got to start so where but I think if you were my neighbor I'd be the one intimidated!

Mary, sorry to hear your finger is infected...please stay out of the dirt, wouldn't want to aggravate it any further, besides another weekend being looked after won't hurt.

Dianne, while I was waiting for Greg to come last night got raking done in one of the back garden and some burning...saw some green and thought ooops maybe with snow forecasted I shouldn't have been taking their blanket off just yet! With all you cook
I'm glad I don't live closer because you'd have a time getting rid of me.

Shirley many of our towns including midland, few miles away have the loveliest baskets, not sure how on earth they keep them so healthy..I have trouble keeping 8 alive.

Got an email from Darlene, she's still interested in going to buffalo tomorrow, not sure I want to and yet would love to so must make a decision by this afternoon at lunch hour ad I have to get travel insurance..

Time to get my act into gear and want to check out and see how the hummers have fared the night!

Gab after

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty I have wondered the same thing. I always thought it would fun to work for the city in the parks dept. where they do the planting and taking care of the beds. I figure one could pick up alot of knowledge doing that. I'm like you, I have trouble sometimes of keeping my hanging baskets alive and looking nice. I know they take alot of watering, but I may have to give them some fertilizer also. Oh well, easy come easy go.

Do you get the travel insurance for you vehicle or is it on you for health? I know when you cross into Mexico you have to have ins. special on vehicles. I never had anything special when I use to drive to Canada. Should I have? Live and learn and then hope one remembers.

Mary can you put peroxide on your finger to help get rid of the infection? I swear by that stuff. I use it on us and all my animals.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes those pics were all from last year. Still cold up here. My spring bulbs have started blooming my crocus, these early tulips and the Hellebore. Daffs will open soon.

Here you go Betty a tutorial on making living wreaths. I have two of them one is a sedum semp wreath the other is the hosta/ivy wreath. You can use any kind of plants, make one with kitchen herbs and hang it near your kitchen. I saw one that was done with bromelaids and orchids.
Sorry you will have to wait for the commercials before the video starts.

Betty, we have a nasty snow and rain mix over here. I am sorry, I know Darlene is your dear friend, but she got a taste of fun with you last time....now she is being selfish as you are NOT up to that travel! You need some rest woman!

It is cold this morning and so slushy. Not sure exactly what the day holds, I need to go out...but am just so tired. The shot helped my shoulder somewhat...but the insomnia is not fun.

Waving good morning, I have my Maxwell house coffee...and sure wish I would have used my Dunkin Donuts ground instead.

Will be back in a bit.

Did we miss our Liz's birthday yesterday....Saw a liz and forgot to comment on birthday list.

Every morning I get a spiritual insight from Joel Olsteen Ministries..thought today was a good one..so will post

TODAY'A WORD from Joel and Victoria

Think about the people God has placed in your life. They’re not there by accident. God brings people to you for a purpose. We should live with this awareness that, “I am here to add value to people. I am here to help them succeed.” Don’t go around always thinking, “I wonder what that person can do for me. I wonder what they have to offer.” No, we should have the attitude, “What can I do for them? How can I help them come up higher? Can I teach them something I know? Can I connect them with someone who can help them?” Don’t make the mistake of going through life ingrown. Instead, be a dream releaser. Use your talent, your influence and your experience, not just to accomplish your goals, but to help release a dream in someone else.
Remember, there is nothing more rewarding than to lay down at night knowing that you helped someone else become better. You not only fulfilled your purpose for that day, you did your best. It may have just been a two-minute phone call where you encouraged someone; but when you live as a dream releaser, you’ll see your own dreams come alive as well!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, thank You for equipping me to be a blessing to others. Show me ways to be a dream releaser and help others to rise up higher. Help me to use my influence to encourage others and honor You always. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Think many of us already to this..thank you for being my friend!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Darts Debbie, will have to send her a dmail wishing her a happy birthday! Always forget to go to trust site..bad me!

Having a bit of snow here as well but says it will clear for the weekend..think the same for buffalo..just after posting this morning Darlene called, we tried to find other dates to cross over, yikes, between her and I it left mid June so guess who is going to buffalo..promise, we'll do a bit and we'll return for a bit to the hotel for me to get some rest..only thing I have to say is even laying on couch these past weekends hasn't helped so we'll see! Hint hint unless something happens tomorrow and we don't go then I'll be in Hamburg just in time for the doors to open..was quite small last spring so would imagine we'd only be there a few hours!! She's so anxious, she's already booked the room! Lol

Thanks Holly for the link, will go watch it and get some plants together early spring ..doubtful i can find miniature hosta's though. Have the perfect place for it, that outhouse shed I made, very rustic and this arrangement would just tie the rustic theme together

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, it must be smaller this year also as there is another function going on the same weekend. Not usually do they double book something. I think it is a childrens clothing sale or such. I will jump over and check....Yes, a Motherhood/childrens consignment shop type thing at Fairgrounds also.

Just don't over do it.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty do have a good time and rest, I know you will. We'll be thinking of you. When do you leave? I found the only places that carry minature hostas are Nurseries. You won't see them at any discount or seasonal place. They are usually higher priced than the regular ones. They are darling. I bought one and split it into two. They are more delicate than the regular ones, but worth it. It probably doesn't help that the canine's run in and out over them. The prayer and word was great, it's so true. Thanks!

Dishes done, going to go vacum downstairs and paint ceiling. BBL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

ACK I'm way behind again... Good Morning Everyone!!!

I've been busy since I walked in the door and now I'm hungry! I'm never hungry at this time of day. Gonna go search for some food.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY LIZ!!!!!

Betty that's a nice prayer! Thanks for sharing it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving...must be the day, I'm hungry as well..have the opportunity to change my lunch hour to an earlier one but I love going at 1:30 and back at 2:30 that way it makes for a short afternoon.

Paul is here today as well, in good spirits so everyone is laughing/joking and having a great day..wish it was like this every day!

Must tell you that yesterday on my way home on a back concession there were a few army tanks/trucks doing manouvers and again this morning on the way in there were about 12..gives you a shill..can't think of living in a country that has them on their streets and doing battle...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty you are right, it does give a person the willies. Sometimes you can't help but think "Do they know something I don't" and makes ya wonder. We are so lucky compared to some, I would hate living in a place that is in turmoil all the time. We can easily find something to be thankful for.

I went out and fed the birds and put the mail out and found a different paint tray. I just wish I could find the extra double stick tape so I could finish the closet area. I don't want to make an extra trip to town. Gas is too high to be frivilous. Not sure that's spelled right, but looks okay. LOL Tubby wouldn't eat any breakfast this morning and so I'll fry some chicken legs for him with mashed taters and gravy. I know he'll eat a little. I'm gonna cook some asparagus also. As they Come on Down for supper.

Back to work!

Victoria Harbour, ON

My thoughts were looking at all those very young men, thinking about all the families who worry while they are away! Yes, I do get extra coverage while I'm in the USA, never know if I might get ill or in an accident..charges at hospitals and doctors are so much more expensive so this is for the additional coverage..not bad, at my age and for 3 days it's only $18.00 diference so worth every penny!

Shirley, your supper sounds wonderful..mouth watering, one of my favorite meals.

Going to go into Midland and see if I can have my eyeglasses adjusted..I do better without wearing them so that says something..then home and will spend an hour or so packing..thank goodness for Cathy, always willing to look after the furries!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Betty that was lovely. Another day sitting by myself in front of a computer doing training. Just about done still have a couple more hours to finish. Then they should turn me loose on the customers. LOL
Shirley, I got my minis from a DG co-op a couple of years ago. I am sure the prices will come down and they will be more widely available in time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Holly, when I was in Ohio, Joyce took us on the most fabulous garden tour and she had zillions of miniatures, was the first time I heard of host as having miniatures..she was even selling them..just remembered that I bought a large metal basket, rusted iron..too late to plant last year but just might start gathering ivy and the likes for this year!

Ooh among the customers shortly, how exciting is that...went and had my glasses fitted again, she suggested that I put my office chair up so I'm looking down at co outer screen and see if that helps.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

That's interesting Holly, thanks. I will have to hunt around.

Well, i'm going to put Tubby to bed soon and go down and do a few things. We just want to wish everyone a good night and sweet dreams. Hope the sun shines for all tomorrow. Tubby ate some supper and that's good since he hasn't eaten all day. I work in the morning and then come home and take him to dialysis so you won't be hearing alot from us. Just have a great day, okay.

Shirley

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Have a good night Shirley and Tubby. Sweet dreams.
Todd and I will be gone for the week-end. Going to a hot rod show in Austin.

Well I will be home all weekend. I am getting ready to go to my first RU!!. I potted up 40 plants today. And need to do at least 40 more!!

Betty you say I am so talented, and I feel I must set the record straight. I am not all that talented, what I am is determined, so if I see something I want to learn, I spend every waking moment doing it or I just give up. So that leaves me with the ability to do many, many things almost right and very few things perfectly. I Can copy almost everything I see, but nothing I read!! How wierd is that? Also I have ADD so I loose intrest really fast if I get frustrated. I am my own worst critic, and rightly so as I have to look at the mess I make,,,lol. That being said, I am however a fairly good ceramics teacher, I can teach anyone to paint on ceramics and yet cannot paint a picture ( whaa).
And believe me I would love to paint beach scenes and things. I could never paint a frog pot like Betty did for the spring swap,,,,I woiuld kill to be able to do that. Maybe I should go spend a month with Betty and learn everything that is stomping my fanny right now and then I can get things done...heehee ,, or should I say hint hint,,,,,

Glad to hear Tubby had a fairly good day,

Wishing I had everyones yard except my swamp,,, The pics above are to die for!!I keep plugging away at the yard and will get there, may take 10 years, but I will get it done. Oh and my lotus is puting out its leaves already!! Love my lotus!!

Be back later!!
Huggs to all..
Elfie

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Elf, Both Ric and my youngest son have ADD. We have a lot of unfinished projects here. I find that persons with ADD are very creative and energetic. They need tools to help keep them focused and on task. I remember watching Ric bouncing from one project to another long after I had quit for the night. Trying to get him to stop and just relax for the evening. Finally I decided that wasn't going to happen. When I was done I would kick back and not worry if he was still going strong. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and wandering down to the barn to find him still there working on some project.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I did have a long post typed, kyle came in and decided to help grandma buy an app for scrabble and i guess we did not press send..drats

Linda Kay is it me or is there a lot of correcting on this ipad? I'm a good typist and usually spelling isn't bad..I re read what I wrote and talk about a mix up in words that I don't even think I've typed..know it has it's own speller but I can't be off that much..maybe small keyboard!

Elf I've seen some of your work, you are too hard on yourself! I'm much the same, can't read directions and do, I'm visual ..can usually fabricate anything I see and find shortened to do so...is weird..my girlfriend Diane comes over and gets frustrated when we are doing a project together..I'm half done and she is reading step by step and by the end of the project both are done, one not better than the other, just we process things differently..as for ADD might be me as well although never diagnosed

I'd you want to see something interesting put all of my family in a room together..talk about high energy group..

Kris as I said, my doors are open and yes, could do a frogie pot

Well, need so e painkillers about now so off to bed I go!

Ahh to be able to afford for Goober and I to spend a month in Canada!! Now that is a dream!! Betty please win the lottery so we can come visit,,,,lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the reminder Kris, 50 million being drawn tomorrow night, must go purchase tickets so I can do just that..

Night night

lol... night all!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Goodness I'm just at the wrong time... when everyone is off to bed... my mouth gets watering dreaming of all the nice treats you all serve in the morning... Dunkin donuts and irish creme coffee and such...

I need to be a better host at night... So for tonight... I've got some Hot Chocolate out ... a little zinfindel and Miller Lites....

LOL!
Dianne... no worries... it's gonna heal... it's still not as bad as some folks ailments on here... LK's fingers, Deb's foot... so I can't complain much.. (except to Hubby).... Now that I've lost a few hibiscus along the way... having to nurse them back... I'm thinking Hibiscus in Pots is a great idea !

Shirley ... I did make the frozen Asian Cukes... they are my favorite ! When they defrost they remind me of the little Cuke salads you get at Japanese/Hibachi restaurants. I've got the recipe saved... let me know if you want a copy....
I asked the Doc about Hydrogen Peroxide but he told me to soak in Epson Salts... not sure why...but I did like a good girl... LOL
Shirley PAINT THE CEILING ! Wow - I wish you could send me some of your energy in a bottle ....

Betty - Thank you for the Joel Quote.... I needed that..... If/when you ever get the 'package' I sent.... you will see some similarities.....

Yay LK ... hot rod show ! Hubby would love that.... Bring us some pics ! Crissy wants to see some too... trying to remember her fav car.... Camaro ? Hm.......

ELF ! 80 plants ! I've potted three.... well maybe more... but not 80 ! Maybe If I come I just better come and visit and experience... don't want folks to laugh at me....

ALL YOU LADIES are talented and energetic and Inspiring to me.... I suppose Mom's up there with God and he figured I needed you all in my life...

(((HUGS))))
Mary

Mary,,,, they tell me it doesnot matter if you bring just a few,, you will still go home with lots of plants!! I have several for you as a brib so you just have to come!!

Fruitofthevine / Susan is planning her Virginia RU for the month of May. I am hoping she will do it the last of May as that is the date I can go. We are going to WV to see my son for his birthday and to spend time with my DGD. So we can go to the RU on the way home!! Is anyone here able to go to her RU?? I hope so. We are going to try to take Goober if she is out of school by then. We will spend 5 days with Raph,(my son) and 2 days at the Fairystone National Park where the RU is going to be. Heres to praying everything goes ok and Ralph can get the time off to go!!

Going to bed,, night all.

Baton Rouge, LA

HUGS Kris !

I really don't care what I come home with strangely enough I guess it's just my "pleasing personality" I want to meet people and talk about gardening... it would be great if I bring some stuff folks want.....make me feel 'needed' for the Round Up

Well - Pond Plants will get Hubby's attention! We have the pond in the back yard but he just got a sugar kettle for the front yard and put some stuff in there... he wanted water lilies... but they are $40 each at the local pond store... so he put some water lettuce and iris in there...

I would LOVE to meet You !

So I'll keep 'working on him" - Hubby... It's the same weekend as the Hibiscus show... where I supposedly can get a free hibiscus for joining the club... April is crazy busy and May is worse... but THANK you... I am hoping to be there... ((HUGS))

A glass of wine right about now sounds fantastic Mary.
Betty back in our day they didn't have a name for ADHD they just called people like you and me full of beans. My mam also used to say I was full of the ole nick.As a kid I thought everyone could do 2 or 3 things at once, now we call people who do that multi taskers.
Thinking of Ann and Mike tonight. Sure hope he gets out in his boat soon.
Kris has the insurance company been out and made their decision? I heard something today and it just made me shake my head. One company was looking for a new health carrier (read cheaper) and all employees who smoke cannot do it not only on the company's property but in their own car in the parking lot.I am not a smoker myself BUT that is just a bit too much for me to swallow.
Kris hope you and Todd have a great time at the car show.
Snowed here today - grrrrr!
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Dianne ! (Pouring a glass of white zin).....I'm probably "Full of beans" as well... DS is diagnosed with ADHD ... isn't it hereditary ? Might be me too LOL...
