Viticella venosa violacea is blooming in the shade
What is blooming in Dallas in MARCH/APRIL 2011
Pretty blooms Anna. My sweet spire is blooming also, but it gets a bit too much shade I think. Hate that you aren't coming to the RU, we will miss your smiling face.
My Sweetspires are in light shade location and they are blooming some, but they are very small.
My old-fashioned larkspur is really doing well right now, although a little soggy when I took this photo. Hurrah!! Wish there would have been more than one pink one, though. I've had these since my mother first gave me seed 30 years ago. I almost lost them a few years back because I mulched beds heavily during a drought and only a few germinated. After that I started saving seed. I'll have seed to share for planting in the fall. I planted these 10/14/2010 and they were about 10 inches tall during the icy storm.
DNP~Love the larkspur!!
Mine are amazing too, such a beautiful flower!!!
Stephenie, love those California poppies. Maybe we can trade larkspur seed for poppy seed when it is time?
Glenna
Thanks for posting the Moonshine yarrow. I've been dithering about whether the color is as bright as the photos in the catalogs. It looks like just the color I want! I'm easily enabled LOL!
Glenna, I'd be happy to do that if I can figure out how to collect the seeds! LOL I've never had it bloom this profusely and I'm really loving it!
Beautiful. I planted for this season California Poppies set in front of dark blue Larkspur. They are all far from blooming, but your photos are getting me excited!!!
BTW, I ordered my seeds from Johnny's Seeds.
This is the first year they've bloomed like this. They were growing under a butterfly bush, but last fall, I pulled that out and the poppy has flourished!
What kind of grapes are those?
OMG I bought them at Sam's Clun 4 years ago.
I remember to just look at the box and I bought them just to see how grapes will do here.
I forgot the box out in the snow in January ... Surprisely the plants survived and made grapes every year.
Forgot the name sorry ... but this is the earlier variety of all my grapes.
Wow! Those Hydrangea are beautiful!
Last night I thought I would take a photo of Dorothy Perkins. This is her first year to bloom as I planted her as a band about 15 months ago. I had her all tied up nice and neat, but 75 MPH gusts of wind kind of dislodged some of her canes. But still looks pretty and I thought I'd get a picture before the entire fence blew away! (It is still there this morning!)
This is a spay of Dorothy's daughter Super Dorothy.
drthor, you can see in the background that I a trying out that red plastic mulch for the tomatoes. Some say that the red doesn't make a difference. But, hey, out here any weed takes root verrrry fast--so any weed blocking mulch is good mulch in my book. And it is kind of pretty in a country garden sort of way. I have plenty of grass clippings to cover it once it gets hot.
terri_emory, I am glad that one of us is using the red plastic.
Mine is still in the garage ...
Let me know what you will think about it at the end of the season
Terri, those remind me of one my Grandmother had, it was always in bloom. We used to use one to pretend we were a bride and it was a boquet. LOL!
This is a MUST HAVE plant of this year: "Hibiscus Panama red", OMG !!! burgundy flowers and burgundy leaves !!
Flowers are about 3" large.
I normally don't buy the annual Hibiscus, I rather buy the perennial/hardy varieties.
But last week I went to NHG and I couldn't resist to buy this Hibiscus. OMG ! I think it is the most beautiful plant I have ever seen. Photo doesn't give it justice.
It will grow 4'x4', all burgundy and purple !!!
