I wouldn't recommend this BS covered rose for anything, but the blooms are huge.

It took four year to get climbing Pinky into this tree. The storm took her down and today I noticed a lot of the canes are broken :0( She does smell good tho .lol

just as pictured, Iris are my passion, I have 150 + varieties

I work hard all year to have 6 weeks or less of their beauty in the spring. I have other things in my gardens, but nothing quite as spectacular. I figure it must be the same with you and your wonderful roses.

Dr, I finally got rose blooms. Not near as spectacular as yours, but in this country sand any rose is a miracle. This one is aptly named Simply Marvelous .
Lavender in color and very fragrant . Just under my east bedroom window

When I got up this morning and saw the damage the hail did to my trees and vegetables last night, I couldn’t help but wonder if all of your beautiful flowers and veggies survived. At my house the leaves on almost all of my plants were shredded and green tomatoes and blossoms were knocked off. I’m mulling over whether I should wait and see if the leaves grow back or if I should pull everything up and start over. I will probably get a harvest sooner if I start over with new transplants but it will be expensive.

hrp50,so sorry about your plants.
Mine are ok. I found only one Yellow Pear tomato on the ground. My plants are very very strong ... I am so surprised!
But now the wind is blowing like millions miles and hour !!!
I was out there to check them out and got scared to be blown away and went back in !

I guess this is better than the tornadoes happening up north.
Thanks for your thoughts !

sharondippity,
you are talking about having problems to grow roses where you live, right?
I had the same problem untill I discovered th Earth-Kind Roses.
I have all of them , and they are no fuss, no pests, no diseases, no need water, no care roses and they are studied mostly for our TX climate.
You can read all about them at:
http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/earthkind/roses/

I buy mine at CHAMBLEE ROSES: http://www.chambleeroses.com/order/Earth-Kind_Roses%AE

Off course I also have some antique/heirloom roses ... I am a plantholic ...

In the picture below is CALDWELL PINK (my favorite, second is Belinda's Dream). This is fron last year. Not in bloom yet. Also in the fall the leaves turn red.

I love what u have done with yours..mostly soil (beach sand) and drought is the problem here....How did you get and arch of roses over you doorway?

I probably could not, all my doorways are surrounded with porches or entries...no soil

last night storms, tornadoes, and huge hail all around me...frightening , but no trees down, no serious damage here...the iris are suffering some wind damage

Winds are bad right now but just miserable not threatening

Garden club coming for photos this afternoon late. I hope it dies down, may be too much for some of the elderly...we are riding the golf carts for those who have walking difficulties.........lemonade and cookies

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

I have screws and wires on top of my doorways, holding the roses.

Really try the Earth-kind roses, they are perfect for the soil you are describing.
They need poor soil, no watere, no care !! TRUST ME !

Good luck with your garden club.
Mine came wednesday and it was the PERFECT day ! OMG ! Couldn't have been more lucky.
No wind, cool temperature and lots of flowers blooming.
I gave a program on BULB 101. So much fun.

Really must try those roses.
If you want a fantastic climber, try : Cl. Pinkie http://www.chambleeroses.com/order/Earth-Kind_Roses%AE/Cl.-Pinkie/67

Duchesse de Brabant is also spectaculr.
It is in bloom now. Normally it is the first rose of the series to bloom. Just too much wind to take pictures.
http://www.chambleeroses.com/order/Earth-Kind_Roses%AE/Duchesse-de-Brabant/87

I have just ordered from Chamblee 6 more Mutabilis roses. They are just fantastic.
I am going to use them as a screen in my back driveway. This rose is evergreen.

Good luck with the wind and Club.
