drthor, you can see in the background that I a trying out that red plastic mulch for the tomatoes. Some say that the red doesn't make a difference. But, hey, out here any weed takes root verrrry fast--so any weed blocking mulch is good mulch in my book. And it is kind of pretty in a country garden sort of way. I have plenty of grass clippings to cover it once it gets hot.
