Rain all day.hi 40's.
Weather in your garden # 91
Rain, cool and dreary....where is spring?
spring is finally here--it rains in spring!
Ah, but it doesn't explain the freezing rain and sleet here. Someone stole spring and I want it back!
Cloudy and 30 now, going up to 41 with rain showers later.
Been pouring here as well. 0.34 inch so far. Great next two days!
Typical March day.....37, raining, gray, & depressing!
Nice day for the Irish tomorrow!
S____ (bad word) in southern Vermont right now. I thought it was spring?
Off to Boston to flower show in a few minutes. Had not intended to go today, but we are on our way back to Nantucket in the late afternoon so DH can play hockey, so it kind of on the way. The First day is not the best day to try to go, but it will be fun anyway. I want to meet the nice folks from Avant. They have a nice blog and they always send such great plants. Not many other interesting plant retailers listed in program other than them. Patti
Have fun, Patti!
Wish I was there!
Rain started early morning, finally tapering off
.20"
interested to know if it is worth going patti - i have only been once and the crowd was huge - hard to browse like i wanted - also in-laws where in tow.
37° & rain well into this afternoon. Perhaps some more beds will clear of snow.
Crowds at the flower show should be be lighter than on the weekend. I'm sure you'll come back energized, Patti. Have fun!
Rain is done. 0.5 inch.
Cloudy and 47.
rain still in place, but moving NE. That is away from Bill.
lucy my wife said it was coming down pretty good at lunch - there has been a lot of melting this week - could be a weekend of pick up sticks and fire
started with rain today. It's now 52 and sunny.
49°, wind NW at 10 mph, partly cloudy
Rain for half the day, now the clouds are clearing out, going down to 35° tonight.
Sun peeked out a little.....rain total was .5".....lots of water behind the dam still.......
Sun came out this afternoon and warmed everything up nicely
33 still with rain/sleet/snow mix off and on all day.
ugh
Funny, spring is not until Sunday, but I have exactly 12 hours of daylight here tomorrow.7:05 - 7:05.
Victor, cool numbers. Island was socked in with fog at 6 o'clock, but we took off after getting called back once to the gate, but then we took off during a brief window. The 8 passengers (and our 2 dogs) were all yelling at the pilot to gun it as none of us wanted to get stuck in Hyannis for the night, plus I wanted to get home while it was still light to see my crocus and reticulated iris. I think we set a record for taxi time down the runway. Landing was a bit hairy. Got to the house before dark and found lots up including reticulated iris. Yippee.
Garden part of the NE Flower Show is much smaller than I remember from years ago, but I did see a few things to take notes about and some to look up as possible plants. The theme was containers which was cool for the exhibitors to go wild with and they did. Some used lots of things like orange trees, banana with conifers and ferns
....a stretch.
A few exhibitors really stood out like Crystal Brinson. She was really nice to talk to as well as having a stunning exhibit with an amazing water feature, made out of a copper , I think, canister. And some nice plants to think about. One had a great huge rock with water that spilling out over it that was beautiful, but most of the plants had nothing to do with a NE garden. But I loved the rock. Another had wonderful cut wood inlaid as a terrace with great huge stumps that would need a crane to put into place, but they had nice NE planting through out it that made sense.
There was a lovely display of orchids. Some of the plants looked tired already in a couple of the exhibits, but it was all fun to see. The part of the show with the competitions was kind of hidden and we almost missed it. Some cool displays and arrangements. The market place part of the show is weird with some plant related stuff mixed in with jewelry , scarves and food and siding and shingles and god knows what else. Odd.
We bought some brackets for hanging up tools and some rubber ends to connect three bamboo poles together for beans. I did meet Chris from Avant Gardens which was nice as I like his blog. He had some nice small plants, but I just took notes about a sedum that I now want from him. Very few real plant people selling stuff.
Crowds were not bad except in the sales isles which were slow going at times. People seem to want to shop more than look at the plants, plus there were lots of strollers, wheelchairs and walkers. Good for the economy. Parking was easy, just down the street and no lines to pay. We only had my DH cell phone for a camera so I will post some pictures if they turn out. He is off for a late night hockey skate. Nuts. Patti
You had some full day. My reticulated iris is up but not blooming yet. I bought one at the Connecticut flower show at the end of February. It was a little unusual, too, but I was glad I stopped by.
can't wait to see your pics Patti... 42 now going to 62!
Clear and 42. Great two days ahead!
Hope you have the same, Dave! Sunny & 37 here. Enjoyed your comments about the flower show, Patti.....I haven't been in years, but do miss it.
Foggy, but brightening up as the sun is quite apparently above the haze. Out to see my darling bulbs, long last. Patti
Thanks for the overview Patti - what was the cost to get in? Wife mentioned going this weekend if i wanted - from your description is would only be for the rock :)
warm today - heavy fog at home - not sure if two days of 60's will be enough to melt and allow me to pick up sticks this weekend
Wha, There were two attempts at rock key arches, but clunky. I have pictures, I think but only when DH recovers from his 9:00 hockey game victory against the best team and wants to download them. He got up early but is still catatonic.
I did see lots of interesting small conifers in use, new to me, but likely not to you. A yellow one, with no id tag that the owner said was a Yellow Korean Fir....something labeled Paul's dwarf mugo that was really a special mugo....another we liked a lot was Pinus strobus Shaggy Dog.....others that I will list after I go see my bulbs. Lots of rock efforts. Price was 20 for under 65 and slightly less for us older folks....There was a glorius Acer P.d. Rhode Island Red in the Miskovsky space which was brilliant red. Patti
i did see one arch on the news last night when they did a bit on the show - they cheated though and used rough carved granite :)
do not have any mugo or pinus - for some reason they do not do much for me - abies, champ, and picea is more my taste
Gorgeous day! Just in from sitting out and starting on my tan. Felt so nice.
62 and sunny.
I'll start a new thread.
