THE GARAGE CAFE - MARCH - APRIL 2011

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

If it doesn't rain here by tomorrow I will have to get the hose out and water.

Quote from BLOSSOMBUDDY :
Well, on a lighter note, is the rain ever gonna give way to some sunny days? I cannot remember a more rainer spring and being so cold and ugly.

Yes, the rainiest I can remember too ... not to mention the strongest, most severe storms and tornadoes. Now comes an entire week of temps at or above 90* here. Yes, will have to get out the hose too in a couple of days as no rain is in the forecast. Just doesn't seem right to have to do that the way it has rained this Spring. ;-)

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

i hate humidity.. and for some reasonm the word "hate" is not strong enough!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I am jumping up and down!!!!!!!! My daylilies are sending up flowers! Lots of flowers!! :)

I had to go out and water today.:(

But thats when I saw all the flowers coming up.

^_^

I currently have poison ivy ... that's one "plant" I'd rather not ever see again. And it always makes me so mad that I never seem to know where I got into it. :(

But I'll be right back out there anyway. :)

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

So Poison Ivy sneaked into your yard? It trys to sneak into mine all the time. I try to keep it under control.

Look whats blooming in my yard!!! :))

Very pretty!

Well, if you got the itch for poison ivy, dont come to my garden..its rampant.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I bought some spray for poison ivy and it sure works great!!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, I woudl literally need a truck load of spray! So we learn to live with it.. Fortuneately neither me or my hub get it and we mow and walk through it like grass, but our woods and prairie are loaded with it. Got a huge old vine haning on an old old oak tha twe call Goliath.. I will have to pull his photo up! Its a monstor vine..ya really got to look up to that old vine! Its older than dirt I swear! with a woody stem big as round as your two thumbs put together.. Its actually very pretty in the fall! But beware if you are allergic to it.. I thin some where there was a thread on Posion Ivy.. Im sure I posted Goliath there once or twice too.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL. Yes, the spray works well if you see the poison ivy. If you don't know where you got it, it's a different matter. I'm sure the woods behind us is full of it. Cats might bring it in on their fur. I keep an eye out along the back fence and that's about the best you can do as far as reasonable sprying.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, 25 acres is hard to spray wtih out killing other things you dont want dead! It is what it is here.

Got bad news late last night!! My grandson got his tongue burned at the babysitters and had to spend the night in the ER. My son said the babysitter gave Elijah soup for dinner, told him it was hot and to blow on it before he ate it. Well, he didn't, being a 4 yr old and he burned his tongue really bad. Anyway my son just called me and gave me an update. The babysitter told my son that it was not necessary to take the baby to the ER/Doctors. Just keep him home and he'd be alright. Well his tongue started to swell and hurt so they took him to the ER. He is still there and they are giving my grandson Morphine for the pain.

My son was surposed to leave for Stockton for the Truck Championships this morning but his wife does not want to be left alone with her son and wants him to stay home and help with the boy. My son says that his son is more important to him than the Championships so he is ready to cancell going. My DIL is an idiot who makes my grandson a nervous wreck all the time. Heck her father fell down with Eli in 2009 and broke his collar bone. AND he fell being stupid while carrying my grandson. Wish I could leave today for Calif. I'd be kicking someone rear!!!

Marti that is terrible about the boy. We will pray for you all. Obviously by the look at that photo.. someone needs not to be called to babysit again. To feed a child something so hot is horrible. They should have tested the temperature of the soup before giving it to the poor lad. How awful to be that young and in so much pain to require morphine.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I hope she's now the ex-babysitter!!! :(

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

My son said that the ER said they would have to report the injury to Child Services which means that she will be investigated. My son is very upset. 2yrs ago, before I moved to Ky, my DIL had made an offer for me to move in with them until my Disablty
came thru and I could find a small place for myself and take over carrying for my grandson. It would of saved them $160.00 a week in child care fees. After she suggested that move and my son asked me if I wanted to do that and arrangements made for me to move to Ventura, she spoke to her parents about it and than told my son she had changed her mind and did not want me to move in with them even if it was just for a few months. So I had no choice but to move to KY. Now because of her decision, my grandson has been injuried twice. I could just slap her sillly!!!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Easy girl.. dont need to get yourself in trouble too. We understand how you feel though...

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Just got in from taking a walk and mowing the lawn. I've worked off most of my anger. I'll cool off a little while and than start on the kitchen. It would be nice if I had some help!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Know that feeling too. Its in the 90/s and very humid today. Both of us have not been feeling too good. Had some virus of some description for nearly 2 weeks now. Fever, snots, chills, the trots, a little sore throat and just plain tired.... My house is a disaster area... things get rough when the whole house is calling "nurse".

I mowd a little grass this mornign, watered some plants and been trying to do puter work.. darn heat keeps makign the PC slower and slower so I put a fan on behind it and hope that helps to circulate some air on its sensors.

Just cant seem to get anything done and soooo much to do!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I know the feeling! I can't seem to get ahead!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Just got update from my son. They are still at the hospital! Doctors will not let my grandson go home until he is able to swallow. He just ate a little jello so things are looking a little better. Found out that the babysitter gave him Hamburger Helper Cheesy Beef and he took a big bite.

Olympia, WA

I can't imagine that burn!!!!!!!!! How horribly painful!!!!!!!!! Hugs for the little guy!

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

I think the babysitter needs to have charges filed against her. The nut for giving a child soup that was so hot as to cause that kind of damage to him, what was she thinking....

Hope he recovers very soon and never thinks about it again. Tell them to keep that lady away from the boy.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Update on grandson. He is out of the hospital and seems to be doing fine. The Doctor gave my son a RX for Tylenol with Codeine in liquid form plus some special mouthwash for the baby. Doctor said there was no reason that they could not go to Stockton for the Truck Championships, so they are now in Stockton. Elijah just slept all the way there and wants to stay close to my son.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

glad to hear the little fella is doing better.

Jan

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

So happy to hear that! ^_^

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Praise God. Poor lil guy has been through a lot.

Olympia, WA

That picture of his burn is worth a thousand words, of course. Burns are so incredibly painful; ones in the mouth all the more so. Glad to hear he is repairing!!!!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

My sonfinished 7th out of the top ten drivers. Anyone from 11 and up does not even get a mention. The driver trainer for the company told my son he believed he would of done better if he had not been up all night Friday with his son in the hospital and most of Saturday. Than having to drive 6 hours to Stockton, get a few hours rest with the kid wanting daddy to hold him all the time and than trying to forcus on the tests.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, that might be true he may have done better as a driver, but as a daddy, sounds like hes TOP GUN to me! Way to go Son! Hope the lil guy is doing better too. Jello, ice cream, popsicles?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

I think the company trainer needs a boot in the bottom.. sorry, but putting kids last just aint for me.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I'm sorry I didn't state that right. The company trainer said that he was proud of how well my son did with everything that happened. My son just called and said that although he has today off and they are headed for home, his boss called him to find out how the boy is and to say congradulations, job well done and enjoy his day off with his son. He also wanted to know if he needed more time off to take care Elijah.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

So sorry, I misunderstood! Glad it all worked ok though! YOu have a great day! Looks like a hottie today

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Another hottie here too. :( Very humid as well which makes it the double KO. But isn't it still Spring??? Must be Spring somewhere. ^_^

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Might be by the calender, but now its sizzling summer weather! sweat sweat.....

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I think Spring abondoned us this year. Just got back from swimming in the lake. Nice and cool!! Just wish there was shade to sit under.
