ok ok - so Haggis isn't for everyone, but you're right, Mary - they made use of the whole animal - wool for the kilts, too! Eight yards of material to make one kilt, cuz they used them for blankets when they were traveling......
Best/Worse/Learned today??? Chat with friends
Wow - Susan.... if our ancestors could see us now... they would be horrified at how we waste things !
My mom was always a "saver".... I caught that "somewhat" from her.. although I find I have to draw a fine line.... and not "Hoard" as well...
yeah.......... hoarding....... not good for the mind. You always feel "cluttered" in your brain lol
Susan - How is your job going? I wonder if some of my Mom's generation isn't a "hoard" generation because of being children of the Great Depression?
I mean I was taught by her.... and I do find it hard to throw stuff away.......
Job's going great - if anything, I have more responsibilities and work than I did with the last one, but my bosses want me to leave on time, not stay late. that's kind of hard to do cuz there's so much work to be done when you're "pulled" in so many directions at the same time, and they're all Top Priority!
Hey Susan... are you hourly? Maybe they are watching their expenses? If not..then maybe they are trying to reach some goal for less overtime... ??
I've been staying overtime lately and notice my superiors are very very appreciative... just maybe the way my company handles it.. (I do come in late from time to time)
Yes, I'm hourly, but I never put in for overtime, although I could.
They're HR dept, and really care for the employees. A really great bunch of caring people.
Wow so much to read.
Goodmorning to all coffee is on.
Be right back
Morning all,
Hope Shirley that Tubby settled in for the night and got a good rest! Especially pleased to hear you took the time to go to Hobby Lobby! What are rooster pulls??? so your decor is country chickens/roosters..When I was on the farm I had same..miss it! Debbie has same theme I believe.
Amen to letting people know the cost before starting to take on their projects..not a cheap thing doing crafts.
Susan, sounds like such a good blend of co-workers and management at your firm.Makes you just want to go into work in the morning, that's a plus!
Laura, thanks for the coffee...you are off and running again today, lots on your agenda? How close are you to completing the tree skirt?
OMG Mary, how wonderful for you..does this extra t.v. adv. mean you'll get a spiffy bonus to spend at the store?? how exciting is that.
I'll say your son will find the $$$ to put the telephone back on, that's more important to teens than eating. Greg/Mel dropped Kyle off last night, was to have gone home but he thought grandma might need him..so glad all is back to normal, I sure don't like any ups/downs of family turmoil. Because I got Netflix he decided to put it on the wii so I can watch movies on it vs. computer and ipad so we chatted on that and by the time we went to bed, lordy it was 11pm.
Having dinner with the family tonight, Noah's 13th birthday..always get them Paramount Theme Park season tickets for their birthday, all get them at same time but always feel guilty (shouldn't) about not having a gift in hand so will either give him some $$ or will go out shopping for something on my lunch break.
Best I get a move on,
For those just lurking today because life has become overwhelming, know you are in my thoughts and prayers!
moving slow today back is hurting all my fault I know my limits.
Tree skirt top done will take a picture.
Pain meds put me in a fog so will try to keep up with all.
So cool that Kyle can be so close to you Betty.
Morning everyone! Thanks for the coffee!
Can't wait to see your tree skirt!
Betty, rooster pulls are rooster shaped knobs for your cabinets or drawers. Some are pretty nice looking. Like these...

Give a big Happy Birthday hug to Noah please? Wow, 13, he is now a teenager!
Morning everyone! Overcast here and cold enough it won't rain for which I am very thankful. Hate freezing rain and of course we have to drive into Kingston today for me to see the Neurosurgeon and DH to get xrays.
Mary interesting comment about our parents' generation being 'hoarders' because of the Great Depression. I have felt that for years and am afraid to say the same brush tainted me a wee bit. Though I only stock up on food - you would never go hungry in our house even if you couldn't get to the grocery store for 3 mons.Between the freezer and canned goods we are good to go, I am not kidding - I think part of that is living in a rural area almost all my life where sometimes weather DID permit you from getting out.
Laura take care of your back - won't hurt you to coddle yourself a bit. I know it is hard to do isn't it? I am always the first one to say something like that but never take my own advice.
Betty glad your DGS got things worked out at home. Chuckling to myself as I remember sleeping in the barn 1 night because I stormed out and of course there was noone within miles of us that I could turn to.
((((Debbie)))) holding you close to my heart. Well didn't Mike turn out to be a real sweetie the day you were away, do think a drop of your caring spirit has dribbled over on to him.He must have known you needed a pick-me-up. His DM does not know what she is missing out on and the potential that kid could have if treated right.
Crissy I didn't know you had a Samoyed at 1 point in time. I swear I still have Samoyed hairs in the Tang - my sweet Ana was so sick the last few months of her life she was allowed to ride in the Tang - only dog of ours that has been. Glad you are enjoying your new car!!
Oooops time for a shower DH wants to go into Kingston early to get a few things - I hate shopping but....... if we go to the used book store I will be happy.
Enjoy your day ladies!
Dianne
Dianne you will be on my mind and in my prayers today.
Betty I'll need to fill it today if I have time to get out, I'm assisting with a class and the weather is going to get nasty around here this afternoon, 7 out of 10 chance of tornados. BLAH!!
Well I have a class to assist with so I'll see y'all later!
Have micro heater going..calling for storm tomorrow so managed to change my meeting up with Jeff tonight, works better for him as he has meetings most of the day tomorrow and besides, if it's stormy tomorrow I might get to work from home..lol
Just got an e-mail from boss:
I just wanted to tell you guys that I really appreciate all of the extra effort and work you are doing on my behalf…… I rarely get enough time to tell you all how important you all are to me and how much I appreciate all that you do for me. It doesn’t go unnoticed and I am hoping for the results of what I am doing to become apparent in the very near future…… and that we can all benefit from the extra work that we are all doing……
Thank you all and appreciate you all…. Paul
Diane, laughing at your spending the night in a barn, lol, did it teach you a lesson?
Good luck with the appointments today, hopefully it will put your mind at ease.
Crissy...omg, will they not let you go home early?
Betty, that was nice of Paul to post that email to you girls! Not too many boss' do that! Hope you get to work from home tomorrow!
Ditto what Linda said. very rare for a boss to take time to let you know
Actually it was nice, he's rarely in this office, working to set up more offices so has lots on his plate..one of the benefits he's talking about IS working from home once all is in place..
Leaving at 3:30 this aft. to meet up with Jeff, should be home by 9pm, will go over and see Noah and give him his gift. Asked Melanie what he'd like, said they were giving him money as there is always something he wants to purchase so will do same. Seems plans are forever changing with me..start my morning ready to do one thing and seems few hours later I've totally reversed what I'm doing..
Laura what in the world did you do to cause bad back?
I'm watching film 'Adam' romance about someone with Aspergher syndrom
lifted overnight bag. I know I should let DH do it I am hard headed.
Never heard of that movie. Will see if I can find.
Take care of that back Laura.
What a nice message from Paul....he's a keeper!
OMG you just have to watch the movie "ADAM" I sooo see Kyle in it!
Sooo quiet here today, either you are all tired or it's a sunshine day and you are out playing with earth.
Mary, meant to tell you the name of the book I'm reading that's based in New Orleans
it's called "At the Crossroads" by Travis Hunter
Gist of he story:
Franklyn "Franky" Bourgeois is fifteen, and he's already done more living than most. First he was blasted out of a normal childhood in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. Determined to survive, he left town with two older cousins. They were nothing short of thugs, but they were all he had. And hard as he tried, even for a good kid like Franky, their influence was hard to resist. . .
Now Franky's just a heartbeat away from a life of crime--until he gets an unexpected chance to turn things around. Getting back on track is easier said than done, especially when a group of prep school fools set out to keep Franky on the streets. But Franky's always been a survivor. He'll just have to prove it one more time. . .
Just got home from work - wanted to say "HI - love you all, and hope you have a terrific evening!"
Gotta go have dinner, then off to Choir Practice........
cya later, ladies!
I am popping in with a hello also....
I hope you all had a great day.
Hugs & prayers to everyone.....extras to Shirley, Tubby & Bev......
News today...we have a used tranny to go into DH's car. Now to find a garage to use to put it in so he doesn't have to do it in the driveway in 25 degree temps this weekend!!
I made chicken cordon bleu for dinner, DH really liked it.
Crissy, how is the new car?
Back in a bit...
Debbie
Hello All !
Just popping in for a bit...
Betty - let me know when you finish it if it's a good book... I love realistic books.... This last one I read referenced Louisiana a lot and I kept trying to figure out what might not be accurate... LOL.... I won't get 'extra' money from the Nursery Advertising...because I work on 100% commission...but it is nice to have a client I can spend money with .... :)
Dianne - you reminded me of my Mom & Dad... they had gardens and canned beans all my life... it was a shame to see all the canned beans we threw away when Mom passed... but folks said they wouldn't be 'good' anymore... some were labeled 1971... (this was 2004)....but we too always had TONS of food in the house...canned food....extra freezer....
Deb - so glad you're getting the transportion back up & running... can't imagine with so many folks how to get by on one vehicle.... so Kudos to you ! :)
Yup... DS gave DH Cash for the phone bill this morning... He didn't miss nearly a beat with that !
Betty - what a nice email from the boss...
I'll pop back in a bit... waving to all....
Mary
Evening all, been a long day, been to work, then Toronto, back home, Noah's birthday party and now I'm home in my jammies playing on Kyle's while he is downloading some goodies on mine!
Noah received a magic trick set from his other grandparents and before coming home he was a pro. Lol
Mary, did more reading and it is taking more of an effort to do so I think because it is not normally the the type of book I read. Speaking of reading, Jeff downLoaded 1,000 books on my Sony reader, to ld me when I read them all....likely it will take a few years. Did not take him long to get. His cel phone back did it? amazing is it not ?
Debbie so hope that you can find somewhere for Paul to fix the vehicle and that the trainee is in good shape..imagine it will be quite the job.
Susan, did you sing. Your heart out at choir tonight?
Omg Gasoline has gone up quite a bit since last night
Getting to be a nightfall since Kyle has been here
Lord willing we'll gab to morrow!
ah yes..... choir practice - our director has a pretty "high" song for us to do -
"Show a Little Bit of Love & Kindness"
Show a little bit of love and kindness,
Never go along with hatred's blindness,
Take a little time to reach for joy and wear a happy face.
Sing a little bit when the days are dreary
Give a little help to a friend who's weary
That's the way to make the world a happy place!"
I can hit the highest notes, so I'm good, but the basses (men) are having a bit of trouble.... ^_^
That is a beautiful song Susan and a beautiful message ! :)
yes, it is... I love it. Just sorry that the men are having trouble with it!
Properly done, it's a pretty "high" piece......
Mud Elf - We can't wait to hear you divulge your secret !
Susan; That song could be the Anthem for Betty's Blog....because that is what we do on here !
Show a Little Bit of Love & Kindness"
Show a little bit of love and kindness,
Never go along with hatred's blindness,
Take a little time to reach for joy and wear a happy face.
Sing a little bit when the days are dreary
Give a little help to a friend who's weary
That's the way to make the world a happy place
we have a Thunderstorm rolling in... should bring some sleep to the weary......My hugs and prayers for you all....
Love ,
Mary
You're right, Mary, and that's what I was thinking when I posted it!
Goodmorning to all coffee is on.
Good Morning! Waiting for the storm to hit, wondering if the WL have done it again.
Thanks for the coffee Laura, hope your back is better today. There are fresh out of the oven cinnamon rolls for all to enjoy.
Will be back in a bit and update you on the Neurosurgeon's plan. Thank you all so much for your support and prayers.
Dianne
Goog morning all
Believe the storm might be headed your way Dianne, sorry!
Snow now reaching Toronto now,sky is dark and gloomy but no snow..
Mary, you hit it right on the nail, could certainly reflect the love, care we have for our friends (family)here..should start each thread with it posted.....the Susan for posting it....shhh did you see that 14 or 15 Romanian boy sing? Lordy what a voice!
Dianne, waiting to hear how your day went yesterday.
Glad that it is Friday and that I went to the city last night to get the iPad..would not have been fun this afternoon soooo when I get off this afternoon I can head straight home and put my feet up
LaurA, how 's the back? Off for another coffee and sweets
Gab later
Able to walk upright today still hurts feels better in the recliner.
Windy and raining here high 66.
Betty let us know how you like the ipad and which did you get?
Dianne hot rolls YUM.
Well Dianne & Betty, you have done it now. Don't know if I am going to speak to you....this weather is a total mess!!!!
Poor Izzy came in totally covered in ice, neither one of us was happy about it. Mike & DD are taking DS for his blood work he HAS to have today....and I am going to sit here and worry the entire time.
Waving good morning to everyone.....drive safely, and have a good day
Debbie
Snowing here in Barrie Debbie so I did keep some of the storm for ourselves...if we listen to the weatherman, think you sent it to us..I'm sure they'll be extra cautious Debbie, not to worry, just sit, relax and find yourself a good movie!
