South China, ME(Zone 5a)

What the heck....i'll take both! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Question for the bikers. Any idea what a 1994 Harley Electra Glide with 4000 miles would go for? For a friend. Thanks!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I'll give him a range. Found some others too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He's got an opportunity to buy a real nice, done-up one wit only 4000 miles for $6k.

Thomaston, CT

Son has radiant heat in downstairs floors....I'm not impressed, the house is always freezing! I'll take the greenhouse any day!

GH is a fuel sucker, Nice in April

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hubby said he'd buy it for in excellent condition, it has less miles on it than ours that is a '99

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He is buying it.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

and when you say "done up" what does that exactly mean? after market parts? did the guy put a lot of $ into it and then never rode it?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Have no idea. I'll let you know when he gets it.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I agree with Jen... depends on what parts were done up with what parts... could either bring the value up or down.. but it does sound like a good deal... as long as the parts are genuine

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Sorry, my hubby is barred from all motorcycles. I've spent for to much time pronouncing bodies. Made my kids promise when they turned five, and I still hold them to it at 30!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I had a bike once. The first time I took it out on the road, a guy didn't see me and proceeded through a stop sign, into me(missed by a hair). I got back home, turned off the bike and have never been on one since.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Oh I love to see them so nice and clean! I would never ride one though, they're much too dangerous, besides why ride two wheels when you can ride four??
- but they do look nice and shiny when they're not making all that noise.. Wheee!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Explain to me why they are so dangerous?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

It has something to do with flesh being ripped from your body at 50 mph while you tumble down the roadway
or highway counting up broken bones in a logistic fashion in frames per/ sec...
I've seen a few very bad spills but I wont go into it... some really nice bikes & some great responsible riders, but overall they'e not safe enough in 'the mix' to put my life on it.

East Bridgewater, MA

I was forbidden to ride a motorcycle until age 21, and now I know why.

There should be a "private property--limited course" like in the sports car commercials, so that safe conditions are prioritized.

I had a 350 honda when I was 18. I sold it and the guy that bought it got hit within a week.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

The dangerous part is the drivers with 4 wheels. Sometimes bikes are hard to see. There are also idiots on the road.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's the reason I stopped riding.. just a target out there

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the grackles & starlings are going nuts out there... think they are late this year

Thomaston, CT

I had redwinged blackbirds last week, & I saw a huge flock of robins this morning....they're on the move!

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

SPRING!!!!!!! Wait...snow tomorrow.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dangerous because there is no protection. Not just incidents with cars. They slide out in slick conditions, for example.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I have never seen a redwinged blackbird... or one of the masked birds. Lots of feeders, just the usual suspects.
Did have a young hawk on my porch rail the other morning...

Hallowell, ME

My first bike was a motorscooter at age 13. Rode it to school until I got a driver's license. DL was not required at that time for motorscooters/cycles. Bought a 350 Honda in 68 and had great fun with it. Got transferred to the west coast so sold the bike and I've never bought another one since. But I always threatened to. My son bought another one last year and he and his wife ride it in warm weather. But I agree they are dangerous due to other 4 wheel drivers mostly although obstacles in the road are a hazard too (like railroad crossings, tree limbs, etc). I think 4-wheeling has taken some of the "bikers" off of 2-wheels.

Thomaston, CT

Dem, the redwings like swampy areas best.....am close to Thomaston Dam, with many wetlands.....your hawk was probably a Cooper's or Sharpshinned....they hang out at feeders.....My next door neighbor had a huge Honda bike, & he rode every weekend when the weather cooperated....the only accident he had was right on our road when someone went through the stop sign, & barely hit him....however, he was in the hospital with blood clots in his leg.....his bike was very quiet, barely heard him....hope he's riding in heaven.....

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I can see grass at the edge of the walks, not green but definitely grass. Of course, the forcast is for snow tonight.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know WAY more people that have been in car accidents than motorcycle accidents
When your time is up it's up I'd rather die having some fun in life.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

When you're time is up you don't have a choice.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

exactly

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

That might be because there are WAY more cars on the road :) Nothing wrong with someone enjoying riding motorcycles, it's just that it's riskier than a car. But I would appreciate if someone would fill me on why some motorcyclists refuse to use mufflers, like my neighbor two doors down....grrrr!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wouldn't be lucky and die... would end up a vegetable for the rest of my life.. Randy cleaning off my drool

East Bridgewater, MA

More of my "Brain Droppings" (referencing comedian George Carlin) that should take a powder:

It's Sunday morning, and I'm scared by some of these posts, but truth be told, "me thinks" there is a lot of wisdom to be gleaned from these posts.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

It's all about being loud and cool. And one wish you are right bout drooling, the luckier ones are pronounced on scene, the unlucky ones get a great trauma team and are forever changed...and not in a good way. The financial and emotional toll on families and loved ones is horrific, and worse because the families can comprehend, while the patient can't.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Weeze is exactly right. Of course there are way more auto fatalities. Survivability is much higher in an auto - especially with belts and bags and crush zones.

MMy DH was a race car driver at one time. He has avoided more accidents from being one, quick response and action taken. Most of us would of been involved and crashing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

From Wiki:

In 2004, figures from the UK Department for Transport indicated that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries per 100 million vehicle kilometers compared to cars, and double the rate of bicycles.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I am so tired of looking out my winnow at snow. I would even willingly weed just to be out in the sun and warm breeze....
