I can't find the October/November issue, Barb
Best/Worse/?learn today, chat with friends
didn't feel "passed by" Barb - we just post quickly is all LOL
Barb, love the quilt pattern. I hope she likes it too. I have a set of quilting frames from my Mom. I always thought some day it would be fun. I have two twin quilts that my Mom made for the twin beds. They are made of old jeans and have to be tied. I have them in a tote and will do them when I am ready for the bedroom to be done. They will go with all the old antique furniture I have for the room. I thought it would give it a more rustic look. It's another someday project. LOL
Susan I hope you get to feeling better soon.
I am finishing up the last of the mending and then will get started for the day.
Take care everyone!
Thanks, Shirley.
When you do some quilting, please post pics!! I'd love to see your set of quilt frames, too - I have one, but no room to set it up (full queen size - side to side, of course).
It is under back issues.
Love the blues and the pattern you have picked. What will you outline in? Will it be the dk blue you have pictured?
Susan to bed and liquids. rest rest and get better.
Shirley you go girl.Handy women.
Who here knew Donna Dyson? Apparently she was quite ill, and last night went home to the Lord.
Prayers for her family.
Barb I think the quilt would look stunning with that material..knowing you you'll have it started this morning..keep purchasing quilt magazines, will go check to see if I've got that one as well..
Crissy, Bernie's wife works for a hotel chain and gets room for them almost for nothing..think the room they have is about $150 a night and she pays $25 a night..great discount..I should invite her to travel with me, could travel in the lap of luxury..although all the rooms were booked, their room is about 45 minute drive, but that's ok..hope the weather warms up for them. Would do Bernie some good as he's not been well of late!
Did I tell you I gave Amanda her rag quilt on Friday night, she's a very very shy girl, she just smilled, no thank you and took it to her room...oh well, guess that meant she like it.
Crissy, you just go get what you want, lordy, not fair is it that he thinks you have to save when it comes to what you want...better put some pennies away for your trip to Memphis in May should it come about...
There is a place that sells frames, no tacks needed and when not in use sits against the wall..looked at it the other day on-line, believe it was on sale for $399. if I quilted more I'd consider it.
Susan, spending the morning with sore throad and sniffling, Suzanne and Paul had it so hoping it will pass me by...wonder if I caught your germs...
Shirley the jean quilts sound lovely, what an heirloom..I had a double sized quilt grandma made with heavy mens top coats I think she made it in the 50's...weighed a ton, when underneath it took all your strength to get up from underneath, looked and looked for it, asked the boys and Jeff has it, said I'm not getting it back..his place is 4 levels and it's quite cold on the uppermost level, says it's all he has to keep him warm, I say 'find a woman - I want my quilt back'; not really, it's nice that he thinks enough of it to cherish it...
Just made a date with Jeff for Friday night - Feb 25th..going ipad shopping, want to make sure I get the one I want..told he and Greg that they cannot purchase it for me on their own, I'd go 1/2's and that would make me feel better..so it's supper in the city, shopping, oh lordy how will I stay awake that late and still be able to drive home..lol
Donna Dyson, was she a DG member and if so what would her name have been???
Prayers for her family!
LindaKay, after mentioning the ipad, you got one for christmas, what do you think about it???
yes, she was a DG member - and of course I can't remember her DG name............ I can't find my little DG book, so will need to find it for her name.
Was she Canadian or American?
Canadian
Good Morning!
Barb, i love the sunrise you get to see from your yard!! It does look very beautiful covered in snow too.
Oh that quilt looks beautiful.
Laura and Barb, sure hope you enjoy the pot holder swap! I'll have to go over and lurk, hehehe. Love to see what everyone is doing.
Betty, I have been telling DH no snow mobile!! Sure it is fun to have but, He barely has time to ride his motor cycle. It's just another big item to take up room, cost alot of money that we just don't have...If he wants to look, ok, but that's as far as he can go...And, not only that, it's also because I can't get some of the toys I want so he can't either. It's one of the things that drives me bonkers. when I want something, I have to wait forever, but if he wants something, well he always has a reason why it should be now. A snow mobile has absolutely no significance in my book! LOL, unless he can haul his tools to a job on it, no can have.
Hahahha, unless he happens to get rich quick.
Whew, glad to get that off my chest.
Awe, Susan sorry to hear your not well. I hope you feel better soon, yep cozy up in warm blanket. Julia home sick too! She even went to the doc and for that to happen, she is sick! Hopefully she'll feel better today. She thinks it was caused from the blizzard, which i think she is right.
Ohh, makes my heart sad to hear abut Tubby...I literally can feel the pain. Not too long ago, My Julia had similar situation. She was going through a most difficult time in her life, along with very bad depression, She literally scratched her self open!! So bad she couldn't move.
Then Sabrina had the same thing with her hands...They both have very bad exzyma, and it just spiraled out of control with all their nervous scratching, this is just a tiny description of why and how, etc...But, the thing that helped them, lots and lots of Eurecin lotion, the Original.
I lotionized them three times a day, wrapped them in soft cotton...Shirley, Dear, No wonder you are crying at the drop of a hat. I did too, nothing worse then watching the one you love in such pain. I wish i could help in some way. Praying that this gets healed. Do you have any Euricin?? I can get a large tub from Walgreens and send it to you if you wish...We still use it to this very day, so far it is the only thing that works...The original, has no perfumes so it does not burn.
Well, yesterday, i did finally get to my floors! OH gosh, took several times...ack then everyone came home! Then, worked on de-cluttering and cleaning. OMG, I am about to shreik, in fact I did this morning. My Senior, is doing everything possible to not go to school!!
I am at my wits end with this, I don't know what to do anymore! She's got no phone, grounded again till further notice.
I don't know if it is right, but i read her journal, found out some rather distressing things. Told her i read it and wanted to talk about the issues and well to say she is so mad at me is an understatement. Well Dad got in on this one too, blaming himself for not being around.
So this morning they had a late start, she starts at 10:30, calls me at 10:15 to say she is not feeling well, I blew up and told her to get her behind to school!! She was well enough to get up early and leave now all the sudden she's sick? Nope not playing this game...And the worse part is, it has all been she is going with this guy. She is 17.5 and think she knows what life is all about. I told her if she want to play adult then she needs to get responsible for her actions...
Oh and in my defense, I didn't go tornadoing around her room, she left in it my sunroom, i was curious to see her art and found it to be a journal instead...I am at wits end to say the least.
Sigh, By now she better be in class is all i got to say.
Well, i better make tracks, got a big list of to do's.
I hope your day is going well, yikes and stay warm. It's 12*
Diane, sure hope you get your appointment soon.
I love the ipad Betty, it is like a small laptop, easy to carry along, you just need to find a wifi connection to use, while your on the road, or you will have to get one of the cards for it, to use the internet.
I have the middle size one, I think it is the 32 GB one. They have 3 sizes, the 16, 32 and 64. I chose the middle size, as that is what everyone said to get. It has a lot of memory, and unless your downloading games or music, you will never fill it up!
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad?afid=p219%7CGOUS&cid=OAS-US-KWG-iPad-US
Here are the prices for the US. I am sure if you shop around, there may be a small price difference, but not much!
Then there are so many accessories to go with it, stands, covers, screen covers... Scroll down for the accessories.
Judy - she left it out, so it's "fair game" I say (hehehehehe) She must have wanted it read, even subconsciously , so she got her wish.
I still have my housecoat on, and put Vicks on my chest, back and neck. Oh yeah, and before I crawled into bed I remembered someone telling me to put Vicks on the bottoms of my feet. Don't know if it helped, but what the heck, eh?
Donna's Dg name was Donna11, but she is not listed in the address exchange.
OHHH My Lord, hear about Donna. I knew she was sick...but not that sick. She was a friend on facebook and games. I just can't believe this.
Donna lives in Rhode Island.

sorry - for some reason I thought Donna was a Canadian. My error
Regardless, she will be missed.........
Susan, she may have originally been from Canada....not sure. Just know her and the girls are up in R.I.
I knew she was sick, but not that it was so serious....and yes she definately will be missed.
Sorry to hear about Donna. I've not come across her on any of the threads I've been on. She hadn't been feeling well Debbie?
Not sure LindaKay but Jeff was telling me they have an ipad that you don't even need wifi that you have service anywhere in the world, all done via satelite..now that's if I understood him correctly, apparently it's a few hundred dollars more than regular ipad but guess overall would be worth it to have access like that while I hit the road! We'll see...Know Kyle loves his, usually he says there is wifi somewhere nearby that can be accessed when he want to use his. Think I'm getting a bit high tech..
Judy, when parents are concerned about their children I don't know that it is wrong to read journals/diaries...how would a parent ever feel if they didn't and something went terribly wrong with their child..kudo's to you for being on top of things...
Maybe Judy make a list by putting few things you really want on it and their monetary value in one column, the the skidoo value in the other and say you want to negotiate..lol when will your company for the Bahama party start arriving Judy?
Everyone took a late lunch hour today, I'll be going out in about 10 minutes, that will only leave me 1 3/4 hrs. left in my work day! t.v. bingo tonight, haven't heard from Ann, she had thought she'd be with the girls at my house today but I called and she didn't make it, hope all is well with her and Mike.
I'm sniffling like crazy..maybe I'll pop over to the variety store and get myself some cough candies
Sorry for your loss Debbie, know you've made friends with so many DG members..they become just like family don't they..
Betty, I did not know Donna well. We had conversed a few times on Facebook, and I had her daughter and "granddog" as friend on their also. I honestly didn't know she was seriously ill. Just a "blow" when you don't think it is "that bad". Never ever know what tomorrow can bring.
OK maybe all you quilters knew this and told us and I just didn't retain it but in honour of the 20th Annual Quilting Day Mar.19 the Natl Quilting Assoc is offering free a quilting pattern for free from their site
http://nqaquilts.org/
Kelly posted this on another thread I visit and I thought immediately of all you talented ladies here.

Dianne
It appears I have lost my Spell Check on IE wonder where I should look for the 'lost' - I really can spell I just can't type.
This message was edited Feb 8, 2011 3:49 PM
Dianne, thanks for the link, going to check it out..still a long wait Dianne, let's hope there is a cancellation and you can get in early without screwing up your dental appt....if they did call which would you go to????
only walked from the car to the Garden Gallery then back and can't feel the tips of my fingers...drats! Did pick up an item for the March garden swap and 2 plants to put in my living room planted, planter got dropped at Christmas and a couple died..time to see color amongst the green..
Betty I keep forgetting to answer your question about the unfinished SG piece. If the foil was put on correctly (Meaning tight no air bubbles)then you should be able to solder it with no problem. Just go over it with 4 Zero steel wool and make sure the surface is cleaned - any remains of the steel wool will cause the solder not to flow smoothly. Pay special attention to the tacking joints that you have - hopefully there is no flux on it from when you tacked but if there is you have to get that off before you use the steel wool. How do you clean up the piece once it is done? This is very important as I am sure you well know.
Good question about Doc's/Neuro's apptment - both are great guys so I am sure I can make alternative arrangements if pressed.
Crissy understand where you are coming from about giving up something you want and would use daily - been there. Stick to your guns - somehow I know that you will.
Dianne
Betty, you are talking about the ipad with 3G, but you have to pay per month for the internet! These are prices quoted from the apple site.
AT&T 3G data plans for iPad
Data per month Price per month
250MB/month $14.99
2GB/month $25.00
Dianne, I found the link on the side as free projects. They have some pretty patterns there! Thanks
Sure hope you get to see your Dr, this month!
Dianne, tack soldered in a few places am sure there might be some remaining flux..drats..will be some steel wool this weekend, perhaps I should force myself to finish it, tired of moving it from place to place..Don, Pat's husband who does stained glass was looking at it the other day, almost tempted to say take it and finish it!!!
Hmmm not sure LindaKay, from our conversation I thought he said that there was one, no service needed, cost about $300 more than than normal ipad and would pick up signal anywhere in the world and no monthly payments..
I'll be gabbing to him shortly and I'll ask if I misunderstood..
Well it's time to head home..forgot, they advertized last weekend that there would be no Bingo tonight because of a curling show being televised..Ann just called me to remind me so guess it will be a relaxing evening after all...
Let me know what you find out Betty.
Linda Kay, read up on it, all info pertains to USA but imagine it's much the same here..sometimes I have to watch these boys of mine, seeing as I said I'd pay half one never knows what story they tell me thinking I'd never know the truth..could very well be something he'll do on his own thinking I'll be none the wiser...lol..I'll be one step ahead of him/them won't I???
Snowing a bit, not s ure if we are to expect more snow tonight, hope not, don't want to be shovelling tomorrow morning..
Shirley how did Tubby's day go?
Hello and Hugs all,
Wow - so much going on...
Crissy & Judy...Join Deb & My "He-Woman Man-Haters Club" (LOL...wasn't that lil rascals?) I hear ya both with the hubby difficulties.....They can be so maddening.
We are in that "Wife is mad... Hubs walking on eggshells" mode. DH on eggshells. He has messed up BIG TIME and this is recent...since the last problems...
I know...Betty .... I should forgive and embrace the difficulties. I will. Just NOT yet....
Betty - thats so sweet how sons are with you...and the IPAD..... I'd do about anything for my Mother in law....(strange huh!)
We've "lied" about stuff we've spent before on her......white lies.... she doesn't need to know.... "Yes Maw maw...we got a GREAT Deal on this!"
Judy - I was thinking the SAME thing as Susan... If DD left it out...I think on some level she wants you to read it....I put your book in my Amazon 'saved' cart...........wonder if Thunder has gotten to read any more on the one I sent ? it's exciting to share a beloved book with someone who loves reading ! Hoping she likes it....
Dianne - hope you can get in there soon... Good luck with that ! ((HUGS))
Susan - get better soon! Debbie told us of the "vicks on the feet' ....I tried it and maybe a placebo but I think it does help!
((HUGS))) Shirley & Tubby! Will GD be able to help out more or has she gone back ?
Laura - what are kiddos up to this week? Barb... I always LOVE your pictures....
I better send this and check back before I lose everything.... HUGS to all,
Mary
Oh.... Linda Kay - are you covering plants in this weather? If so...do you know how many days they can go covered in sheets ? I never covered anything before this year....but we have freezing temps for a full week this week which is SO unusual.....
I don't cover the few plants I left outside! I have brought most of mine into the shed, I guess I need to go check on them, and make sure they h ave made it through the freeze! The few I left out, like the hardy hibiscus always comes back. The roses are still doing fine, I have not lost them yet! I have a cyclamen that is looking a bit rough, but that always comes back too!
Morning all, bitter cold and add wind chill factor, let's just say I think I'm in the land of the eskimo..brrrr...
Mary, so laughing, yes, we often find things for others that ARE BIG TIME SALE ITEMS for them but costly for us..that's the part of giving, so I could see Jeff and Greg doing so but doubt very much I'd let them..all have kids growing up and always a lot that needs $$$, for the short time I'm travelling as you say LindaKay, always free wifi somewhere..will keep you posted if we've different plans here but it's doubtful..
Had dreams all night so more tired than when I went to bed, not sure what triggered them.
Mary/LindaKay, if you've large gardens it would be so difficult to cover them all...here, a plant/shrub either makes it or not..dig the dead ones and plant new ones..although we've terrible winters usually there is just one or two that doesn't make it, sometimes cutting them down to the ground brings them to life later in the season..
Too funny, was having a bath this morning, wind just a howling and I'm planning my garden, when a secondary pond will go coming off the original, how I'll find garden art to put into the archway I built last fall, reminding my self that next time I see my plowman Andrew, remind him I need some digging for the pond done as soon as he gets his backhoe out etc.etc. sure starting to get garden itch.
Best I get going, much to do this morning..
Gab later
Waving to all...
Morning everyone from bitterly cold Verona. More snow on the way for the next 5 days - sue hope snow forecasted is just flurries.
Betty if you take windex mixed with vinegar and a mushroom brush to the places tacked that should lift off the flux. Don't get it too wet at 1 time though or the foil will lift.
LK I think my DH has finally stopped laughing at me about the antifreeze. Love the colour of your Tang..... mine is Menopausal Red or so a friend said.Is yours a ragtop?
Need coffee BBL
Dianne
Good morning All!
Well the coffee cake is about to come out of the oven, coffee is on so come and get it everyone. I'm gonna make rolls later today. I've a million things to get done.
The GD is still here, she goes back this coming week end. I hope she seriously thinks about moving here. She would be a big help to us as well as my DM.
I have Tubby sitting up for a while. I managed to get the TED him this morning so that makes me feel better. He's gonna sit at the table for a bit. He doesn't eat much again, but last night he was more perky then he has been.
Well, got to go get him in the wheelchair, chat later.
Shirley
thanks Dianne, am going to get it out this weekend, either I'll finish it or I'll give it to someone for them to finish and keep..I'm in a clean-up mood.
Shirley I'm so sad that your grandaughter is going home, just having her there took some of the daily stress away I'm sure. With all that cooking/baking going on you'll have a feast when they all arrive. Tell Tubby to help himself to the goodies, he needs to put some weight on and gain strength...
Dianne, rought ride in until I was about 5 miles outside of Barrie, light snow and high winds, poor visibility..already had one client call to cancel..
Oh yum Shirley, 'coffee cake' yes, I will have a piece please. Glad to hear Tubby felt a little perkier last night, makes me feel a little perkier just knowing that so I can imagine how it made you feel. You are so good to Tubby Shirley!
Very windy here Betty, very!!!Makes the air seem much colder than the temp actually is .... glad you had a safe journey in to work. I know you must dread those white knuckler commutes - hopefully Paul will commit soon to you working from home.
In the night I was actually planning a new cut flower garden we are going to put in. Looking forward to seeing those bright coloured flowers.
Need to stoke the wood stove.
Dianne
Morning everyone! Cold here today. It has dropped from 70 yesterday to 20 now, and the winds are so strong! Then back to 70 for the rest of the week! Sure wish mother nature would make up her mind!
Shirley, holding out my plate for a piec of the coffee cake too please? Sounds yummy!
Dianne, I wish I had a rag top, but the summer sun here in Texas is so brutal on them. So unless you have a garage, (which we don't) ragtops get real brittle and peel in just a few years!
Stay warm everyone!
Well, Tubby is resting at the table. DM is up and had some coffee cake. The cinamon rolls are mixed up, waiting for them to rise. It will end up making two 9x13 pans. Hope they work out. I'll mix up more if they don't.
I have the dishes soaking and will do them when I come in from outside. I have to go jump the truck as it didn't want to start the other day. The Durango was dead also, had the BIL come out to give me a jump, but he told me to loose his number so I will. I'll call the neighbors next time. I get tired of hearing him say those things so this time I'll take it serious and see how he feels. I'll send him a gift card and a note to thank him and that will make him think. Sometimes it just isn't funny anymore.
The dogs are waiting for their bowls of scraps that I fixed up for them. They are all sitting below waiting. It's the only time they are quiet and cute.LOL
Betty glad to hear you made it to work okay. We are to get up in the 40 - 50's this weekend.
We have been going thru old pictures that the GD brought back from my Mom's. I need to have some copies made. There are pictures of my parents and family that I don't have. It's been alot of laughs. I just can't get over how cute I was. ROFLOL
Sorry to hear about the loss of a dear friend from DG. I didn't know her but it's always hard when someone goes home to the Lord. Please give our sympathy and prayers to the family.
Okay, I have to go get a few things done. I'll check in later today. We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful day.
Shirely
g'morning all - I'm still at home, sick......
Didn't feel like getting out of bed, but my DH brought me some coffee and Shirley - would love some of your coffee cake, and maybe a roll? They'd be nice & soft, I'm sure...
Shirley - I am so glad you've come online and joined us. I remember when you'd said you had no idea about this computer thing, and were only popping on to say HI for Tubby. You sure have come a long way, lady!! It IS funny to go through old photos LOL
Betty - glad to hear you got in safe & sound.... take it easy going home. I'm sure it will still be light when you leave/arrive?
Diane - sorry to hear it's so cold in Verona! Bundle up and keep warm!
Mary - you can cover plants as long as you wish - no time limit. I know that if you don't cover them, and it freezes, water them before the frost is off the ground that you will save a lot of plants (even tomatoes on the vine!!).
Sounds like a busy day Shirley but I'd sure love some of that coffee cake!!! I'm thinking the cinnamon rolls are for the weekend??? Glad to hear Tubby is a bit perkier. Please tell him that Norm and I say HI to you both every morning.
Good morning to you Dianne. Sounds like a good day to dream of flowers. It's cold here too but we aren't supposed to get the wind until tonight and then it stays brutal for the rest of the week. I too would love to see a color other than white!!!
Sorry about the ride to work Betty but glad you arrived there safely. What happens when these clients call to cancel? Is the time then your own? I really did think you would be working from home by now. I thought that these brutal winters were the reason for changing over and here you are driving in the snow again???
I chuckled Mary when you spoke of covering gardens. I do that in Oct/Nov when I'm trying to make them last!!!
Debbie and Linda - I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. I'll say an extra prayer for her family today.
I see where Twyla made it home safely but now needs to rest. Hope her husband lets her.....
Well, this has been a nice break from sewing blocks. I have 10 rows done on the mystery quilt with three more to make blocks for and sew together. I best get at it....
I'm sure I'll need another break soon though. BFN----
Edited because I can't spell--
