in Mexico they tell you to drink Tequila " it kills the beast " so i was told. LOL
not much going on here
♥♥ Sweet Interruptions ♥♥ 210
lol I don't have any Tequila here, and ain't about to go out and get any LOL
On the plus side, it's snowed like crazy here, and the board meeting I was supposed to go to tonight was cancelled because of weather. It can wait another week apparently.......
Good morning sistahs!
Went to bed at 7.00 pm last night, can y'all believe that?
I was too sleepy to do anything and thought I'd just take a nap and wake up in time to watch American Pickers. Wrong.. continued to sleep right up till a couple hours ago.
Guess that made up for all the short sleeps.
Sue, you may be right. I'm not a fan of the Steelers' QB due to his personal life and we believe that his 'diva' status on the football field got to his head. The 2 earlier interceptions gave Packers touchdowns and the last one clinched the win. What's truly amazing is when the Packers lost their top defensive players to injuries, at first the team was shook up and then pulled themselves together and stopped Ben!
What's Steelers' excuse with all the veteran SB players?
Now, it was the Black Eyed Peas that disappoint us. Each time they played live... they truly suck!!!
Susan, I hope you feel better today.
Synda, how do you do fish in a potato coating? Is it a special potato flour?
Nothing going on around here today, just sew, sew and sew.
But there's blueberry muffins for everyone and a hot pot of coffee.
Have a good Tuesday everyone,
Susan you better hurry up and get well!
mmmmm fish!! I want some lobster!
I was upset about the anthem screw up too Sue, I had been looking forward listening to her sing for weeks and then we get that. Ben threw 3 interceptions and anyone who throws 3 interceptions shouldn't win, they lost it on their own, I was rooting for them too but it's not my 49ers so you know.
I got to get to work here, so everyone have a great day and Susan get to feeling better!
Jaye I here is what I have used........
Potato Batter for Fish
1 c. Potato Flakes
1 tbs. Corn Starch
1 tbs. Olive Oil
2 Eggs
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
¼ tsp Old Bay Seasoning
1 tsp Brown Sugar
Put the Starch, cayenne pepper, Old Bay Seasoning, and brown sugar in a dish for coating the fish.(Sometimes instead of the cayenne pepper, Old Bay Seasoning, and brown sugar, I'll use Lemon Pepper and Garlic Salt)
Add the potato flakes to a dish and set aside for crusting the fish.
Beat the eggs and put in a dish.
Dip the fish in the starch, then eggs, then flakes, coating evenly.
Lightly coat the pan with oil and pan-fry the fish over medium-high until the crust is golden brown on each side.
Place on a plate with paper towels and pat any excess oil away.
Then top with Tartar Sauce,Cocktail Sauce,Malt Vinegar.....or something you like , I like a creamy lemon sauce on mine.....
Creamy Lemon Sauce
And the Lemon Sauce is also good on Cooked veggies.
1 1/4 cups milk
2 tablespoons soft butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Scald milk in the top of a double boiler.
Stir in a smooth mixture of butter and flour.
Cook and stir until smoothly thickened.
Stir in parsley.
Maybe they should have non artists to sing the national anthem next time!! Wouldn't it be great if they have children's choir instead?
Crissy, have a good day at work!! No more budget cuts ;)
Thanks Synda! I'm glad I asked cause I had never used potato flakes as a coating!
I always use Tony's Creole seasoning for everything.
That lemon sauce sounds good!
LK, catch more fish for us!
mmmmmm I still have some of that Creole Seasoning you sent, Jaye - thanks for the reminder!!! I love using spices and seasonings on our food ^_^
Oh, Synda that sounds really good! Thanks for the recipe's!
I'll do my best Jaye! LOL! They are pretty easy to catch at the catfish pond. This is where we went!
http://www.hondocreekcatfishlake.com/Hondo_Catfish_Lake/Home_Page.html
Kinda pricey, but we all had a great time!
The 25 pounds of catfish, cost us almost $100.00, but considering all the meals we have, not too bad I guess!
I've never had catfish...... I've been told, like the Canadian Jackfish, that it's a "garbage -eating fish" and doesn't taste that great. Is that true? I suppose it's all in the way you prepare it.
You are very welcome.......we use a lot of garlic and sea salt here...
No ,I don't think that $100 is bad at all Linda Kay......you had fun,got some Qt,and the fish on top of that .It would cost that just to go out on the town and bring home nothing !
I used to go fishing, and the best part was trolling slowly in quiet waters...... enjoying the sound of the loons, the sunset, and the wonderfulness of finding new waters just around the bend......
Didn't really need to catch anything ^_^
Sure was nice to cook brook trout over a campfire with loads of butter, though LOL
$100 for food and a great time, it's worth it, LK!
Susan, catfish are bottom feeders, but the flesh is very sweet!!! Pond raised catfish are much more sweeter than the wild or Bayou catfish.
One can prepare catfish in any way.
For frying, I like to roll the fillets in mustard, then drop them in a ziplock bag filled with seasoned flour.. then deep fry.
The catfish that's not filleted are good in courtbouillons, stews and curries. The bones make good stock.
Only thing I hate to do to the fish, is clean and skin them!!
ok ok......... now you're making me want to go fishing........ in a small boat. Bob would fish off the shore, and that's not quite a nice for me. I really like boating!
We'll have to see what next summer brings, eh?
Ooops.. that bag is 1/2 cornmeal + 1/2 flour.
ok - will have to try that......... ^_^
Susan, Jaye is right, catfish are so tasty, not fishy tasting at all. Some bigfger fish like salmon, I don't care for, as they are too fishy for my tastebuds, but I love small fish, like catfish, bluegill... small pan size fish!
I don't know if any of you knew Donna Dyson, but she has been sick for quite some time, and last night she went home to be with the Lord. I don't know her DG name.
OMG........ I didn't know Donna was that ill..................
Prayers for her family........... Donna was a lovely lady
I've added Donna to my FB friends, but I don't know her DG name neither. Should have asked when I could, but accepted her when she had so many other Cubiters and DGers as friends.
God be with her family at this time.
Susan, any inkling to her DG moniker?
Wish I could remember it, but I'm at a loss.......
Donna11, but she is not listed in the exchange.
yes, for sure.......
free quilt patterns from the national quilt association if you want to look.
http://nqaquilts.org/free-projects/
LK - do you know if her father, or daughters will be posting anything on her FB page?
She's a FB friend of mine (not that I played it much in the past 2 months......) and I see that nothing's on her page.
I don't know! I keep looking, but don't see anything so far.
I will post here, If I see anything.
Thank you, LK - I spoke to Brenda/Echos about this, as she knew Donna more from FB than here.
the family may not know how to get on to her FB page...mine would not have a clue....
Her dad and sister are friends on Facebook.
yes, they are.
yes, they are. And actually, they have more to concern themselves than her FB account.....
im sorry to hear of Donna. Sending T&P to her family.
Yes the Black Eyed Peas just suck in person . Honestly i don't think Fergie is all that great of a singer... i m jess saying ?
I wonder what the heck some of them players think they are ?? attitudes for sure. They get away with murder .
my whole flock of chickens are sick. they are all sneezing. oh i hope i don't loose any ? i m giving meds to them , sure hope it works.
My natural rememdies are to expensive , so i need to do it with modern meds.
I would hate to loose them since they supply us with wonderful eggs.
tomorrow grocery and errands.
tonight is 5 degrees outside ! brrrrr.
Oh Sue, you certainly have your hands full. Hope your feathered babies keep supplying eggs. What kind of natural remedy are you referring to?
I have never seen fowls sneezing, but then my late grandma was living in the tropics, and my late MIL don't experience snow that bad.
How are you feeling today Susan? You must be anxious to return to work.
Hope you are on the mend.
It dropped to the 20s last night and I had to go to bed with a sweater!! Kel is just too warm blooded to turn up the heat.
Time for him to sleep in the extra room. :D
Will be a very busy day and night for me. Errands to run, another block to finish and of course, cook. Then tonight it's bible and prayer night.
As long as I stay busy the devil can't play with my mind!!
Sistahs have a fantastic day!
Jaye, you guys need to get an electric blanket. We have one, with dual control. That way, I can be nice and toasty, and he has his turned down low or off.
Still feeling nasty, Jaye....
LK - we have a heated mattress cover with separate controls. I like mine turned on to high until I come to bed, then down to 2 (or off - cuz it's warm by then), and my DH likes his on 2 all the time.... I usually turn mine off.
Cupcake day
i was elected to do the valentine day party at my kids class. I usually don't like doing this valentine day stuff, i think its silly for kids to be doing this ? but i am outvoted. sooo i m making cupcakes, then we do a art project.
I just checked on them,,,,, its not going well..... i filled them to full...... so they will take longer to bake ,,,, uhg....
may have to run to wally tomorrow ! ack :P
Susan sorry to hear your still feeling nasty
Jaye yes chickens do sneeze and sounds kinda cute when they do but its not good for a chicken to have a cold
i usally do a mash of keffir, sunflower, echinacea powder, and some flax seeds.
but i think with its being so cold, its hard to not have a cold.
so they are getting antibiotics, and electrolites with vitamins. can't have eggs for 10 days... :(
Good day all!
Guess it's time for lunch, how about Nathan's all beef hot dogs topped with chilli and of course, onions?
It's been a busy, busy morning for me. And I'm ready for an easy afternoon, if there's a such thing for one with cats underfoot!!
Susan, I know you're anxious to get back to your routine at work, but heal your cold first. Don't want you to end up in a hospital for pneumonia :(
Sue.. how did the cupcakes turned out? Do you have to ice them as well?
Cookie, has your brother left. Bet his heart was heavy.
Hugs my sistah.
Crissy I hope the prediction for snow in your area isn't happening.
It's predicted here but I think we'll avoid it.
For those that are still battling.. like Barb, Susan, Synda and Sue... hope nothing impedes the convenience of being home.
Last night, the bible class was cancelled as there was a wake for a church member. She lost her battle with cancer and was only 41.
Didn't go to the wake, as I can still lose my way in the surrounding towns or counties, unless it's at the beach!!
Anyway, made good use of my time to sew right through Top Chef and Storage Wars.
Jaye, I'll take a chili dog! Sounds yummy!
OMG I didn't even know Donna was sick! Horrible Horrible news!! She was my friend on FB too, Dave wouldn't know my password to log in either.
I've been cut off from the world for a year I think! LOL
Hi Everyone!!! We got 5 1/2" of snow yesterday and it knocked my internet out right after Dave fixed it. I got 2 snow days, yesterday because it was snowing and today because everything is iced over. The northwest corner of Arkansas got 2 feet of snow!! YIKES!!
