Today's Weather in your Garden - 87

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Just finished shoveling (at least enough to get out) On the bright side, we should have a spectacular spring when the snow melts.

Thomaston, CT

This snow will not melt until summer! Looks like another 8" out there....

work pushed our delay until noon

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Was just reading this about N.Y. City.......

"The region has already been pummeled by winter not even halfway into the season. About 19 inches of snow fell on New York City atop the 36 inches it had already seen so far this winter; the city typically sees just 21 inches for the whole season."
My math says you are now up to 55", you might as well move to Maine. :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are not kidding

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

had another 8" here - like the new snow blower although will take a little getting use to as the other one i could just muscle around - reverse was a gear i never used - working from home today - do not want to deal with a long commute down there.

went to fill the brid feeders and the snow was almost up to my waist - looks great out there!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

We got basically nothing. Just a dusting on the ground. Even the wind never got nearing as high as predicted. But our DS emailed us late in the night that NYC was amazing with all the snow. He only has a 7 block commute on foot, but was mesmerized by the beauty of it though if he was in a horrible traffic jam or stuck, I doubt he would find it so poetic. I am glad I didn't go to Boston as planned yesterday.

FlowAjen has it right about the tub full of water. We fill a couple of big cooking pots too, so we can survive days without water/electricity and still live in comfort. But it didn't happen. Not complaining.

Wind from the NW at 20 MPH gusting to 33 MPH
Precipitation last hour A trace
Temperature 28.0 F

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, Timely purchase. It would be my luck to fork out the big bucks and have no more snow until the next year. I can hope you don't have to use it for at least a few more days. People need a break, especially in CT. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i can wait a few days - not much longer though :)

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow! Woke up to another 14" of snow this am!
- spent 2hrs digging out, but DW is now finally on the LIRR on the way to Manhattan.

Temp 27°, windchill 23°, wind from the SW at 7 mph, humidity is up to 81% and we have mostly sunny skies overhead.
Going up to 34° today, chance of snow anytime from now till Saturday. Next storm scheduled for Feb 2nd, (groundhog day). Going down to 18° tonight with increasing clouds.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can't they just heat those rails from the inside???

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Too much expansion, warping... energy to warm it up and specialized workers to maintain are expensive too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just seems crazy... has to be a better way

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hard to tell how much here. I guess around six inches. The piles are incredible now. Well above the top of my minivan. This is crazy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I want to take a photo of the house from the street... crazy high piles

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Giggling here......6-12' high snowbanks are 'normal' here.....you guys are making me home-sick! LOL

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are more than welcome to come visit.. we could use a few extra hands to shovel.. LOL

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I'll bet she welds a mean snow shovel! DH just left to go check on the boat, not for snow or ice, but for water. We had a lot of rain and no snow here. So it goes. Happy to avoid it as we have no plow here and a long drive. I am happy not to be commuting today either. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

very windy out there - wish i had time to go xcountry at lunch

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, you would hate it here with no snow. Picture just taken out the window of our Bedroom. There is snow, just not much and the grass is still green. Patti

Sun is out
Temperature 30.9 F
Windchill 17 F

not in the summer and not with your zone that is great for jm's :) yes i need snow in my life

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

We ended up with about 10" total. Very pretty while falling. Helped DH shovel and beat the snow off the bushes. Venu, I was thinking the same thing about the spring show of blooms. Should be spectacular.

Across the river in Delaware a woman was struck by a DELDOT snow plow and killed this morning about 6:30 am. She was walking in the street. I can't imagine.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

how terrible!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

On closer look, we got about 10-12 inches. A woman was killed by a plow in this area yesterday.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

The snow plow drivers up in Vt do a bit of Rodeo Driving at times and that scares me. We hired a guy with a plow on his truck for awhile to do our drive before we bought a snowplow. He was a total hot dog when working. He would go at a speed that normally you would see on a race track. Crazy dude but he was an artist with that thing, except that he would always carve up the lawn in March so we decided to do the plowing ourselves. Plus you never knew when he was coming. The guys with the big road plows go at break neck speed always even on our dirt road, so I can see how a person out walking would be in danger and could get killed. Sad.

Sun still out. Patti

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

A woman was killed here yesterday too in a shopping center! The plow was backing up and ran over her, she was 66 yrs old.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's the one. I should have said the greater NY area!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

My age. Too young and too tragic. Patti

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The plow guys here are no good. They used to be more careful and do a better job a few years ago, now every year they get worse.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not much better here. I see mangled mailboxes and huge pieces of asphalt in all these piles.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Did she not see it??? Would you be walking anywhere near those guys????

We got about 16"... will post pics later.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Have no idea, Jen. I wouldn't be out walking in it, but maybe she had to go to work. It is a pretty big road.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, that's awful, Jen!...Weather person said CT got more snow this month than in any month...ever....I believe it....went out to get the paper this morning, & I couldn't find my mailbox....the plow had covered it totally.....and neither paper came today....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

NYC had the most for any Jan, and one more inch will make it the snowiest month ever.

Thomaston, CT

And a clipper is moving through tomorrow & Sat.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think when that silly rodent pops out next week, he should immediately hear hundreds of gun clicks!!

South Hamilton, MA

DH measured 8" new, but it depends on where you measure. Think about the old days when you didn't know a storm was coming. (this is when I was young). Topsfield to the west of us & Gloucester to the east both had 14". DH had the car at the end of the drive & shoveled out the plowroll. As our sub. plower had something break on his plow, he won't be here until 4 or 5.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

That's really awful about the women being killed. It's possible that they didn't see the plows (and vice versa) because of the huge piles of already plowed snow.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

any time i hear about a plow hitting something or someone i believe it is their fault - they have always driven like they own the road (or lot) and do not give an inch ever - get out of the way if you know what is good for you - there have been times i would have liked to follow them to thier coffee break and "chat"
