Isn't that great?? 98 years. You all Love those Dads, So happy for you.
Happy Birthday♫♪ to your Dad too, Susie.
I am so happy for you all that still have parents with you! I know you cherish them. My daddy died when I was 6 and mom 5 years ago. She was 42 when I was born so I didn't get to have her around like some women I know who are in their 60's and 70's with their mom still here. She and I were very close as she was all I had for nearly all of my life.
Love you Mom!
Handsome young man.....you're from good genes, Susie. Wish your Dad a Happy Birthday for me :)
Hey, gang. Cornbeef and cabbage for dinner tonight!! Fixed the way my dad loved it. Baked in the oven with the cabbage and carrots and potatoes steamed sperately. He hated how geasy the cabbage, carrots, potatoes were when boiled with the cornbeef.
I lost him in Oct 1978.
I Lost My Mother back in 1997 & I Think it is hard loosing any parent I Know we all have to go one day .
Daddy tells us that Mom IS Waiting for him & He Looks Forward to the day they once again will be together &
I asked him what if mom found another man up there He didn't have an answer for me but i know he is still thinking of a good answer for me :) .
well i have to go make pancakes for my critters this morning for it is very cold out side .
have a great day .
marti sorry i missed sup last night Love CBC :)
susie
It was GOOD!!!!! Sorry you missed out now its all gone.
I've never been a big fan of cooked cabbage until I started making it this way.
World's Best braised Cabbage
1 head of cabbage about 2 pounds
1 large onion, quartered
2 carrots, cut
¼ cup stock or water
EVOO
salt and pepper
Heat oven to 325. The the cabbage into 8 wedges and remove the core. Lay in a single layer in an oblong baking dish. Top with onion and carrot. Pour over the stock and drizzle a nice amount of EVOO over it all. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover with foil and place in the oven for 2 hours. After one hour turn the cabbage wedges over and recover with foil. At the 2 hour mark, if the cabbage is nice and soft, remove the foil and raise the oven to 400. Roast for 15 minutes. If it is dry, add a little more stock or water to keep it from getting too brown. When it is finished sprinkle with a little more coarse salt and serve!
It gets so soft, creamy almost and sweet.
That recipes sounds so good! I love cabbage!
I love cabbage and sopping up the pot liquor with cornbread! That recipe just might be the ticket for my DH, Neener. He hates it and says his Mom cooked it to mush when he was growing up. My Mom used to make hers in a cast iron skillet on top of her stove. She used bacon grease for seasoning and sprinkled the crumbles on top. That's not the healthy way to go but thinking about hers still makes my mouth water.
Busy day...we've had a house full of company with my SIL, last chance I'll probably get to see her til Summer, a friend of hers since the 6th grade who is the sweetest person and fought and won breast cancer last year, my girlfriend who lives down the road, and my MIL.. We had surf and turf with a heaping helping of sides and chocolate silk pie for dessert. Don't know how long I can go being good not eating chocolate but I made it through another day and it didn't bother me when I put what was left of the pie in the fridge.
Sounds like you had a great visit? And that dinner sounds really good!
I love cooked cabbage, especially the way you described in bacon grease. YUM It's funny though, that is one thing I never made when my kids were growing up. I wonder why? Hmmmmm I always get it when we go out and they have it. Hadn't even thought about that till now. Things that make you go Hmmmmmm.
Susie .... my mom always said she was just waiting to be with Daddy again. She was only 48 when he died, and never re-married. She said no one could ever compare to Daddy. I thought that was so sweet.
well daddy has his list made out for me today
Now he tells me this morning he wants my Peanut Butter cake No Pie & Now he wants 98 candles are you kidding me he is like a little kid on christmas morning .
he even called my brother to let him know i was making the cake & he can bring the ice cream :) so you see
now what turning 98 can do to you ??
I still love him

A big Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Bless each day you have with him, even the tough days. He sounds wonderful!!!!
You are so lucky to have your Dad. I got an email from my hubbys mother. She is alone up in Buffalo , NY and has an infected toe, she has diabetes. I told him to call his mom. He said I just called her last week. I said we have free long distance, use it. He called her and told her to find a way to the dr.
Gee, if my parents were around, I would spend more time with them. I regret the times I put them off now.
My lap top is broke. I won't be posting much ntil it is fixed, using my old putor downstairs. Thank goodness I havn't messed it up too bad.
God Bless you all and enjoy your families while you can.
My hubby is the same way! His parents are both gone, but he still has two Sisters, and it is like telling him to go to the Dr, he hates talking on the phone!
Sorry about your laptop! Hope you get it fixed soon!
susie .... I too LOVE roses! Before we moved, in my tiny little back yard, hubby made me 2 rose beds, 1 with 2 tiers. I had 32 different roses there. I LOVED my backyard. I didn't realize you could start them from cuttings. Since we still own the house and rent it out, I think I will take some cuttings and try to start them here. I need to find a link that will tell me SPECIFICS about how to propegate them. Never did find that elusive beautiful orange one though.
I have 4 roses, butno orange ones! My favorite one is the peace rose!
I have a lady banks, does anyone know if they are supposed to be trimmed back like he other roses?
I Have 4 rose bushes & I Just cut back the branches that do not Produce Leaves they seem to do good .
I've planted many other roses That never came back & I'm not sure what I Did wrong .
I Recieved an rose in a swap Couple years ago that was called Tropical Orange & It Never Bloomed it had lots of leaves but no Buds. then it didn't come back this last spring .
Well Party is over Daddy is now back to his self this morning & Now I can relax. so now I'm going to go shop for my gardens :) any good bargains out there share with me will you ????
well off & Running you all have a great day .
susie
Good morning all. Have been trying to catch up on this thread and before I can, the conversation has changed a dozen times. I love you all and all the pictures of your Fathers are priceless. Hold them as close as you can while you have them.
Ray is still not well but is improving slowly. Taking Ray to Dr. this morning. Snese sometimes still doesn't act like the playful baby that he normally is.
Nita, on top of all the gardening you do, do you like to cook too? Sure wish I did..I cook out of necessity, but love playing in dirt.
Have to go now to take Ray to Dr. Hope you won't get another 2 pages ahead while I'm gone.
Love & Hugs
Faye
Spring coming?? When?? I've got snow today! About 1 inch and still coming down.
Faye good luck at the DR.
Good morning all. Nita, on top of all the gardening you do, do you like to cook too? Faye
Oh yeah Faye. Love to cook! Been cooking since I was 7 or 8 years old. With the kind of food that we eat now (no preservatives or processed food) I have to spend major time everyday cooking and baking. Don't buy much pre made stuff at the store anymore. Only organic, and whole foods. And the occasional piece of chocolate, but don't tell Fruity. :0) Glad Ray is doing better. It will take a while to get his strength back.
Nita
Nita wow! Doesn't your healthy kind of cooking cost more plus taking longer to prepare? How on earth do you find the time you spend to grow such pretty flowers? Don't you ever go to bed? Girl, you are one smart cookie.
Dr. told Ray that his lungs sounded good but it would take a long time for him to get his strength back. Warned him not to get in crowds. His immune system is weak. Thank you all for continued prayers, Ray isn't out of the woods yet.
Hugs, Faye
Yes Faye our style of cooking is very time intensive and very expensive. We are fortunate to be able to eat this way and I know that. The thing that makes me crazy and I know I've said this before, is that everyone in this country should be able to eat like that if they wanted to. The farmers in this country could feed the world if the government would just let them do their jobs. Don't get me started. My DH has lost almost 80 pounds since we started this and the Dr. thinks that he has added 20 years to his life because of it.
Gosh Nita, I really do need to learn cooking like that. Ray is a serious diabetic and we both are over weight. My hat's off to you!
Sleep good everyone!
Hello all...where are you? From last night to now and not a sound....,well I couldn't keep up, now I'm talking to myself..LOL
Big thank you Patti!
I am here, just busy sewing today!
Hope your all doing well!
I'm hanging out also. Had to get up early and take my kitten, Troubles, to the ASPCA for neutering. He's home now, but still alittle clumsy. He's legs don't want to work right for him. Right now he's on my bed sleeping it off.
Maybe Troubles will be troubleless...
Lordy what a mess the last 24 hours have been!! We had about a foot of heavy wet snow and at 11:15PM this loud crash. Big tree outside our bedroom is now residing on the garage. It took out the upper corner of roof on the top level and the gutters and soffits on the garage as well as putting a nice hole in the roof. If this house wasn't an older model built 30 years ago who knows what would have happened. Have spent all day chain sawing limbs and talking to insurance people. May be a little AWOL in the next few days till this sorts itself out. Could have been tons worse. Will be having a lot more tree work done here very shortly.
The pic is my front yard right now.
rvnsbrk, please take care of yourself and your family. I hope things get better for you.
neener, so glad your OK! Sorry about your house! Hope the insurance people work with you!
Oh dear, Neener I bet you were freaked out. Glad you are okay, tho.
Faye I am sorry, my lap top is down, but I did see you post that Ray is feeling better and I am still praying for his speedy recovery, and hope your Snese gets better too. Work is driving me crazy, but I am glad I have a job.
I am waiting to hear from my sister about ther test results.
Morning everyone! What are you all doing this week-end?
Good Morning, Ladies! I miss getting on here, but my kiddos have kept me SUPER BUSY since Keith went to a different shift at work. I wanted to share this picture of Learynn. Can you tell she's a HAPPY baby??? She loves this new bumbo seat....makes her feel like a big girl. :)
Ahhhhh crud! I'll have to fix the picture. :(
