They should be ashamed of themselves, making those children sell all those boxes of cookies. That just ain't right! - Beginning to sound like one of those challenges they do in Trump's 'The Apprentice'!
Coffee Break #51 - First 2011 Edition
Are they made in China yet??
On this day in 1901, Queen Victoria died.
Our girls as scouts had to share a street. Never heard of having to sell a certain amount to camp. The girls were just told to do the best they could. It is some adults' idea & needs to be squashed higher up.
Long live the Queen!
Secure the drawbridge!
Send a courier to Gandhi!
Summon Napoleon to the council chambers! etc etc.. (lol!)
Fascinating, Victor!
I love GS cookies, but you're right, doesn't seem fair to make the kids sell all those cookies so they can got to camp. Not all kids are going to excel at selling. Celeste, if your granddaughter lived over my way I'd buy some cookies from her.
Went to have my car checked out yesterday and picked it up today. Paid $150 in diagnostic fees to have 2 problems checked. One was the check engine light was on. The car needs a new ignition coil, spark plugs and wires, and an air filter. Estimate if for $408.12 including labor. The second problem was the driver's side airbag kept coming on. Needs a new seat belt assembly, as the sensor does not work correctly in the one that's in there. Another estimate of $197.47. My brother can do the first problem for $150, including labor. Will have to have the shop do the seat belt assembly. Can't get anything done for another 2 weeks.
I feel like I'll never get ahead. Guess I shouldn't have taken a vacation, but I needed time off and time away from Dad. Maybe next year I'll go visit my sister Wanda in Texas and not rent a car. Would be a lot cheaper. Just round trip airfare to Austin.

Karen, did you know Pep Boys and Advance Auto will do the diagnostics for free? I think Auto Zone, too.
And, of course, you needed a vacation. Never feel bad about something like that.
I didn't know that. I don't if there's a Pep Boys near me. Advance has a parts store near me, but I don't think they have a shop. I don't think our local Auto Zone has a shop, either. I had a bad experience with Pep Boys in Nevada a long time ago. I had a timing chain that broke on an old Monte Carlo. They fixed it but left lots of little pieces of the chain in the oil pan. They got into the engine and destroyed it. I never went back to them again.
I go to this particular shop because they're always fair when it comes to fixing things. My brother, who recommended the place, knows the head mechanic there, and knows he won't jerk people around.
Karen
Wow. Overbite, perhaps??

That's it! Now I'm gonna have to tell my vampire boyfriend to quit the lovebites!
Karen
Sorry about the car bills, Karen, but your time away was the most important thing! Bills will always be there, but you saw your sister, & had a great time! I'm not letting the airedale sit next to me anymore....he tends to nip.....
I am progressing much more quickly than I anticipated. Walking almost normally. Did the exercise today with no pain afterward. Toughest is the stretch where I bring my foot back toward my butt. At around 90 degrees it starts hurting.
My biggest problem now is in deciding whether to shave my left knee so they match! Any thoughts??
Decisions, decisions!
Glad to hear you're doing so well but since you keep yourself in such great condition it really isn't a surprise.
Thanks, pirl. My wife says not being heavy is really key.
I can't stand it when things don't match, I'd definitely shave the left knee.
Absolutely, Victor. I've seen friends with new hips and knees and the fittest people have the easiest time.
Victor - remember the old Noxzema commercial...Take it off...take it all off.
Yes, I do. Classic.
You better shave, it must look really funny!
Glad your up and about☺
Thanks, Ron. Yes, it does! I might draw a smiley face on it. Have to incorporate the three incisions.
Wow, Victor! That's fantastic! So glad to hear it! I think a lot of doctors won't consider doing knees or hips unless a candidate loses enough weight to be in the normal range. We have a friend here who really needs knee surgery, but just can't seem to get her weight down enough to be considered for it.
Not really, Louise. My wife sees many joint replacement patients and the majority are morbidly obese. My surgeon said the overwhelming majority of his patients are.
The one who did best around here was a former NY Giants football player, Herb Johnson.
The two who did worst were a woman who is still 100 pounds overweight and six years after the double knee replacement still uses a scooter, and her husband, 400 pounds, with two titanium hips. Neither lost a pound when faced with their operations.
Glad to hear your progressing so well, Victor, and with so little pain. Yes, I'm sure not being heavy is key, as well as being in good physical shape.
Pirl, don't see how they can lose any weight when using a scooter. They never get any exercise!
Karen
Never got exercise before the operation either, Karen, and that's part of the problem. The husband doesn't use the scooter - just the wife.
I'm not a skinny person, in fact way too big, but whenever I see someone using a scooter, especially someone heavy, I think how they'll really have a tough time losing any weight if they're always using that scooter.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have listed some daylilies for sale here on the DG Marketplace. I have listed 6 so far, and have a lot more to list. Was going to list them on the Lily Auction, but DG does not charge a listing fee. They do charge 3% of the sale price, though, but not on postage or tax. My prices range from $2 to $4 a fan. My shipping is $5 for up to 10 fans, then .50 cents for each fan after that. I think it's a little more reasonable than what others are charging. I'm going to start shipping in early May.
Karen
I always thought the same thing about scooters...how can they lose the weight if they are relying on them to get around? Yes recovery hurts, but got to work thru that pain to get better.
Victor, if it was summer I'd tell ya to shave it so they match but who's going to see it????
His wife will, but if she doesn't care, then he's all set.
Karen
LOL Sherrie!!!
good to hear you are recovering quickly victor
Sherrie, ouch!
I thought this was really cool, though people who do this are pretty crazy. I've always wished I could surf, but never did get into it. Seeing as I have a phobia of deep water, it wouldn't have been for me, anyhow.

Karen
Thanks, all. I'll start a new thread.
I like surfing as a spectator sport. Never cared for the idea of getting beat up by those waves in a 'wipe-out'. Sharks are usually very aggressive near the surface too..
