GM Ladies,
Jaye I've already had surgery for carpel tunnel. This is not carpel tunnel that I have, but it is arthritis. Had x-ray done and doc said there is lots of arthritiis in my hands.
Some of you may remember my cousin Sissy. She asked me to post this:
Pendleton Animail Welfare Shelter in Pendleton Oregon is having an Ebay Fundraiser!
We are asking for donations to auction off. It can be anything you have and don't need.
Someone has donated Porclien Dolls, that were her mother's. We would appreciate any
that would sell for at least $20.00, this would include shipping. All of you make wonderful
gifts for each other, could you make a gift for the animals?
Our goal is to pour a cement floor in our building to put in new drain pipes for new
kennels. If you would like to help please send all donations to:

Good morning sistahs.
Neener, that's what the pharmacist recommended. Tonic water which has quinine. Got a OTC relieve for leg cramps, and bottles of tonic water. Was advised since it's so severe, to drink 1 qt. before bedtime, besides the pill. Seems to work.
Long time ago, Beefeater's Gin and Tonic used to be my party drink. No gin this time, but the tonic is still bitter. At least now, in my old age, I love blood oranges which has that bitter taste. So, straight tonic doesn't taste too bad!
Sorry sistah Judy, I just checked the phone and I missed your call last night. Was at an interchurch prayer meeting. I'll try to call you tonight.
Cindy, I do remember Sissy. Will this be an ongoing auction?
Good to know that arthritis can be surgically corrected.
It's not too bad outside, in the high 50s, but supposed to drop to low 20s tonight.
Hope your day today will be an easy one, be it at the office or at home.
Have a wonderful day sistahs.
I was trying to get some blood oranges yesterday for a recipe. They didn't have any yet this year. Just suddenly it seem that produce is out of sight pricewise. 5.99 a pound for cherries. 3.49 for grapes. When you are doing a lifestyle that requires a vast proportion of fruits and veggies it gets a little outrageous. It is no wonder that obesity is out of control in this country. It's so much cheaper to eat processed, packaged food, than fresh food. In my mind there is something very wrong with that. People in third world countries have better diets than we do. Less meat and more whole grains. Makes me crazy that we can't fix this here. Sorry for the rant everyone... :)) Food is my first pet peeve. No one in this country should have to go to bed hungry. Just think how many crops we could plant and tend with just the money from the space program! Boy, now I sound like a real looney. I'll stop..
Rave on Neener, you will have lots of company. Shocked at the price of cherries--2.99 a lbs. here and yes, I am enjoying them. I also agree about diets in 3rd world countries, at least the ones I have been in---most all meats are grilled and so are the vegetables. I missed them when we came home from Palestine in 1999.
Now sistahs... Mickey D has already 'polluted' the diets of some 3rd world county.... all in the name of progress.
Pfffff.... when KFC came down to Singapore in the late 70s, the locals are oblivious to the fats... and when a slew of American fast food restaurants joined force.. traditional grain, veges and fresh seafood staples became 'uncool'. Oh boy, did we pay for stupidity. Me for one!!
Neener, you are right. I grabbed 2 pounds of fresh collar greens and it costs $4.00! Thank God, the fresh seafood is reasonable around here, if not I'll be turning to Gorton's weekly!
Grill is the only way to go, Maid M for all meats. But around here, when you mention grill.. they think it is barbeque!!!
Oh Jaye, I know exactly what you mean about bar b que. Yes, we saw McD's in Ramallah but it was on the Americans that were frequenting it. KFC and Checkers were available but no takers with the group working on the project at the time.
My yardman has been bring me greens for $1.50 a bunch. I made the mistake of getting 2 bunches ordered the first time but not again. They were huge!!!!!
i'm sure then the locals were worried the meats might not be kosher, maid m.
sad thing that now in the mid east you have imitated kfc and mc d touting halal and kosher.
just burnt my left hand. removed a skillet from the oven and forgot to use a mitten. even forrest gump knows better.
Yikes Jaye!! Get some ice on that. I try to be so careful when I put my ovenproof pans from the stove to the oven. When I get them out I always drape a kitchen towel over the handle to remind me not to touch!
ice is the worst thing you can do for a burn in the long run!!!!!! feels good at first as it feels like it is stopping the burning, but the ice actually does more damage to the skin than the burn does!!! room temp water is the best!!!! (military medical training 101)
sure hope it is not too bad Jaye.....
My doctor has said I should be on an almost vegetarian diet, have heart condition, and very high cholesterol!!! can not take cholesterol meds, as most interfere with heart meds, I am continually telling her I can not afford it!!! fruits and veges too expensive!! it is ridiculous !!!
i had cold water running on my palm for 5 minutes. learnt that in the plant i used to work. that will reduce the heat. hand is getting better. applied a burnt cream, but the mid of palm is little sore.
thunder, i have a neighbour that grows his own and quit when his water bill gets too high and the veges aren't guaranteed to thrive ;0
this is sickening.. i guess the govt. don't want the people healthy and living longer lives.
like neener said, we spent billions on a program that don't feed america ;0 sad. sad. sad.
now the rich 250,000 a year can have their taxes further reduced and the poor subsidies will be cut.
Hi Ladies,
Will be having surgery on my hand Feb 7th. No artifical joint. They are going to take out the arthritis and my a pad out of a tendion to replace the bone. Same as my mom. Will take 6 weeks to heal, but at 3 months before I can do anything like bowl.
Ouch - you ladies are either hurting yourself, or having a surgeon do it for you!!
Jaye - take care of that burn, dear one!! And your poor knees.........
Cindy - I pray that the surgery on your hand is very successful!!
Jaye, don't make us all show up and do all your cooking! Please be careful?
Cindy we will be sending lots of prayers your way for your surgery!
Susan how are you doing? Better I hope?
Where is everyone else??? Cookie, Sue, Kathy, Jax...
I'm doing better, LK - not so my DH though - he's really suffering with a cold. Taking Tylenol with Caffeine and Codeine is helping lol
Thanks for asking, LK ^_^
Cindy, I know you want that done asap. Glad it's not a long wait. Will certainly be praying too that you'll have a successful surgery.
My left hand is much better LK. Thanks. As long as the person who's cooking for me, will EAT for me too!!! LOLOL..
Never never will I use that skillet again :D If I had to, I'll just make sure to time the baking/roasting to end at the same time when Kel comes home from work ;)
Sistah Susan... it was so nice talking to you. Sorry to hear Bob's ill. Hope he gets over the cold soon.
Sistah Kathy!!! Woooohooooooo!!!! LSU won!! Jefferson did good!!!
G'nite sistahs.. finished a bottle of tonic and I shouldn't be having CH tonight!
I miss talking to you as often as we used to, Jaye....
He'll be fine - it's just a cold (miserable as it is....) - He's taking Tylenol with Caffeine and Codeine.
Susan, these cold sure can take a toll on our bodies! Tell him to hurry and get well! You too!
Jaye, hope that hand is healing OK! Those blisters hurt so bad! Ask your Dr, for some Silvadene cream. That helps alot for those burns!
Morning everyone! Beautiful sunrise here this morning!
Hot coffee is ready, scrambled eggs, owens breakfast sausage, and toast!
LK, I love coming here in the morning and seeing what's for breakfast. You have great ideas and combos !!!
Sorry I've been MIA lately. Not doing very good with my Mom's situation. Hugs to all you sistahs that need them.
Jaye, glad you got that off your chest and I feel better so I bet you do too! My number is the same, it was posted, but here it is again if you need it. 937-789-8663.
Cindy so glad for all your good news!
We went Thursday to the funeral home to make the final arrangements for my Mother. We had been there in 2002 to make the tentative plans, but at that time they thought they wanted to be cremated. Now they don't. Anyway, we had a good time there in 2002. Talking about the music, and remembering past times. This time was a whole other story....I didn't handle it well, and neither did my DM. Anyway, it just made it all so real for me. It's really expensive to get put in the ground, too.....even going conservative it will be around $8,000. That's without the stone. Sigh....Sure am glad that's behind us though. DM said she and Dad both slept better knowing that it's taken care of. They put me on their bank account as well, so that takes some burden off Dad. He's not been real good a remembering lately, so if it gets to the point that Mother can't handle it, I'll take it over for them.
Had a really cool garden club meeting the other day. It was "Perennials that Pop" by Bob Iiames. Gosh he had some glorious pictures to share. He has about 15 hellebores and they're great big bunches. He lives in Englewood and I told him that I was going to pop up to his house to see them when they're in bloom. He told me I'm welcome and to come around the middle of March cause they're at their peak then.
I got online and looked at what they were offering at Hosta College. Sure hope I have enough money to attend this year.
Hope you're all staying warm and enjoying your Saturday.
Thanks Barb!
I took out new GMC Acadia to the dealership yesterday, as we had a nail in the tire, and it has a slow leak! I told the lady in the service dept, and she told me to go out and have a seat, it would be about 30 minutes to fix it! Well, an hour later, she brings the vehicle out front, and told me there was no nail, the tire was over inflated!
I told her it was soft, and the dashboard computer message told me it was soft! She again told me NO it is not soft, take it home! Well, I was not happy, and as I was trying to get Dad in the car, he stopped and showed me the nail in the tire! I left Dad and walked inside and demanded to see the service department manager. When he came outside, I showed him the nail, and told him what just happened! He then went and got the girl, and.. well, lets just say he was not nice to her! He took my vechicle back to the service dept, and fixed my tire! 2 hours later I finally got my car back! Needless to say I was not a happy camper!
Morning Cookie! Glad to see you posting! Sending you big (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) making final arrangements is not easy for anyone!
Cremations here in Texas cost $800.00, and that is what I will be doing for Dad if he passes here! My Moms funeral cost us $16,000.00 and that was the low end prices! But that is Michigan prices. Don't know what they would be here! I just can't see paying that much for a funeral! Todd and I will both be cremated!
So glad to hear you had a good visit at the garden club!
(((((((((Cookie))))))))))))) Somehow I missed that posting on your new cell # Thanks!
I love Hellebores!!! Lucky you!!!
It must be hard for you to sleep at night lately. I'm sure Bertie is there for you when you need it.. and our Sue too when she can.
Your parents are truly blessed to have such a good daughter in you. I'm proud to call you sistah.
LK, if your father had not noticed that nail, no telling whether you made it back home, safe. God was watching over you. Some people are so unprofessional. Guess they don't work with pride!
So far, my hand's okay. The soreness in mid palm went away last night. Amen, nothing serious... the kitties are happy as mama can now use both hands!!
I've been kidnapped! My church sister Carolyn forced me to spend the day with her. Had a good time just being gals.. didn't go anywhere... but browsed through magazines, books and her fabric stash. Errr.. of course... sharing good food!!!
God must have whispered into her ears that I need some distraction!
Susan, hope Bob's feeling better.
Crissy, I hope you have a good weekend sweetie.
Peyton will soon be on.. came home in time to make supper. Meat loaf anyone?
Meatloaf sounds good, were gonna have grilled chicken here!
Glad to hear your hand is feeling better and you can feed the babies!
So glad to hear Carolyn came and kidnapped you for the day! Sounds like you have many earthly angels near you!
Still nursing this nasty cold/sinus infection. Better but not so that I can travel yet.
Cookie, oh how I wish I could do something to help at this time but alas we all must walk this path one day or another. Thank goodness Mom made all her arrangements many, many years ago so that we have been spared. Sue, my sister, has checked to see if there is anything else we need to do or if they are going to honor the contract. The plans were made in 1978 and the funeral home has since sold to another group. They did tell Sue the only added expense is the usual things that arise--opening/closing, obit, death certificates. I had done nothing when Ross passed and it was a very rough time, thank goodness Kim and Charles knew what was wanted and took care of all the arrangements. Please hang tight and know I am praying for you and holding you very close in my heart.
Jaye, careful with the hand--burns are no fun. Besides you have all the little furry babies that need your attention.
Waving to everyone.
Thank you all for your cyber hugs....I can't tell you how much it means to have you all help me through this.
The funeral home lady said that the price would stay firm (we did Dad's, too) except for the things they had no control over. When I worked at the attorneys office 5 years ago, death certificates were $18.00. Now they're $22.00. We had arranged to have a paid notice put in the paper where they used to live, but we dropped that, because there are hardly any of their friends left now.....it was just hard, but it would have been harder if it was after the fact of her death, so I'm glad we did it and got it over with. The cemetery is very small and not fancy at all, and I like that just fine. There are no stones over 2 feet tall and most are just "pillows". We are having the base tilted so that it is easier to read. I'm sure that the obit is going to fall to me, so I should start on it soon so I can do it while I'm thinking clearly. Anyway, enough about all that.
Jaye, so glad Carolyn stole you away for the day. Sometimes that is just what you need! That's why Sue and Bertie and I try to have girl days. We haven't had so much time together this winter (especially Sue) but when we do get together we always have a ball.
Cold and snowy here....I'm wishing for Spring already.
Have to straighten out my sleeping and waking hours. I've been sitting here reading all the posts, and here I've been feeling sorry for myself because I've had some bad times over the years. Jaye, you are one wonderful person with a husband with a heart of gold! When I get on the subject of a SIL who turned from a nice person into a witch when her mother needed help, I can sure get myself upset. We all seem to have gone through a lot, thank God I have found great friends here. My prayers are with you all.
I remember taking a pot out of the oven without a hot pad, burned my fingers pretty bad. Touching hot frying pans on the stove even today, not keeping my mind on what I'm doing.
I'm waiting for LK to make one of her special breakfasts, I'm always late and everything is pretty much gone, but it is the thought that counts. I love you all!!!!!!
Just thought of blood oranges that were mentioned above. I have a tree in my back yard that is full of them. Yesterday I was out picking some off the tree, a lot had fallen on the ground and rotted, yuk. Tree needs to be shaped back and I'm sure needs more TLC. DH planted it and then that is far as it went, guess I'm supposed to see that it is taken care of. It is doing a lot better than my lemon tree. Wish I could special delivery some to all those who want them.
I've always said I can't afford to diet, prices so high and they said the cost of living isn't going up. That is the excuse they give us when we don't get a raise on our social security checks.
Joyce, you and I are the lucky ones, with parents who recognize that their funeral plans should be made ahead of time and shared with their family. I have a friend whose father refused to make a will or talk about things with his daughter. When he died they had a hard time going through probate. Then the wife (my friend's step-mother) got sick, died, and of, course no will or arrangements either. Her sister (the only legal relative) died suddenly within a week of her sister, again no will and then the sister's husband died, too. This was 4 deaths within a year, none with wills. By the time things finally got straightened out my friend saw nothing that belonged to her father or shared in any of the inheritance.
People just don't know how difficult they make it for their family if they refuse to make any kind of will or arrangements even if they think they have nothing of importance to leave anyone. Even my children took a page out of Dad's book and recognized how much it was to have things written down ahead of time.
Mom and Dad both wrote their own obituaries, picked out their favorite hymns and passages for their services. The pastor was amazed and thankful to have all of that help from the person themselves.
Good Morning everyone!
Been busy at work again, still, whichever, which is ok but I sure do miss keeping up with y'all. It's going to slow down now I think, we're almost done.
I'm going to try to catch up later, nothing going on today, it's cold and it's supposed to snow!!!! Like 3-6 inches!! Woo Hoo!!
I'm looking for a new car: Honda Civic EX Coupe with a manual transmission, they don't make manual transmissions for the EX for the Gulf Coast States. I can order one but it takes 3 months to get it in. Dave wants me to have a salesmen find me one, I'd like to just order the thing, but I'm also wanting to say that if Honda doesn't want to make them for this area then they don't want my business, and I'll go buy a Scion. Fooey on them!
Janice, you are so right about that. I am thankful that they are doing all this preparing. They've started cleaning out closets and chests as well. We have talked some about what she wants my brothers to have. I'm the executor, they're both in Florida. Anyway, they know that they're taking a burden away by doing a lot of this stuff themselves.
Dad has said he is planning on staying on in their home at Otterbein. I offered for him to move in with us, but he was positive about this, he would stay at the retirement facility, no matter what. At 92, I just want him to be comfortable and as happy as possible. I surely don't want him to be lonely. Luckily, he's an outgoing guy and they all seem to love him there. (As well as Mom....)
Crissy.....good to see you, dear....we've been missing your sunshine.
Good morning everyone!
It's snowing :( About 1" now, and expected to keep on falling through the day. Oldest cat Rimau didn't take his time to come inside, like he normally does. Too cold for his old body.
Will be forcing myself to do some sewing!
ALright.. where's our LK?? Yoooo hoooo sistah.. are you okay? Tis not because of the breakfast I miss you.. Not like you to disappear for a whole day and a half. Hope you're not ill.
Scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage. Coffee's ready. I have a bottle of raspberry favored syrup for you to try.
Got some sliced oranges.
Wish we're living closer Pegi. Neener and I will be helping ourselves to your blood oranges. Right Neener?
Seems like the little people always get squashed on by the govt. No matter who's in charge.
Just read that some Medicaid benefits will be taken out. By the time, I'm eligible for SS., there'll be no more money in the coffers. :(
Cookie, I was wondering about whether your dad would agree to move in with you and Bill. Guess he rather have his independence, but I think he respects your privacy. Thank the Lord you're not too far away.
You and Janice have very considerate parents. My parents deaths were both unexpected, no wills drawn up as they both died in their fifties.
I couldn't do much as I was still here, and as Muslims, they were supposed to be buried the next day of death, and no coffins. Just wrapped in linen cloth. The 'mullah' or the head of the mosque took over the arrangements. Uncles took care of the organizing of feeding prayer nights (40 nights plus feeding those that participate)
As for tombstones, all 7 siblings don't have much to choose from. They are all of one generic look with Arabic characters used.
Dad died first, and Mum inherited everything. But when Mum died, all agreed that the bachelor brothers get the house. All cash and jewelry were divvied up and if anyone want anything out of the house, my two brothers were willing to give them up.
Though I have no children, I still need to draw up a will. I don't have much but what I have I want my American godchildren to have. Too far for my family to claim what should be theirs.
Marion, Cookie... I wish we're all living in a sistahs community and I'll try my very best to help you both.
Instead, all I can do is pray and kept you remembered in church.
I ask for prayers for you both to fortify your minds, body and heart in your caregiving of your precious, precious mothers.
Crissy, take a pic of the new care.
snowing again.. drats....
No snow here but we do have winds, rain and some absolutely miserable weather.
Thanks for breakfast Jaye but don't think I can handle anything other than ginger ale today. Let's just say I didn't have the best of nights and today hasn't started out much better. Yuck. Good day to just rest and read--maybe.
I wish we all lived closer too. Then again, maybe the world isn't ready for us living to close together. Can you just imagine the trouble we could get into--good clean trouble but nevertheless............
Stay warm all
Cookie, sending love!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am here Jaye, I just got up eraly yesterday, and took Dad for along ride! We saw lots of deer on the way!
Just being lazy this morning!
Thanks for the breakfast!
Marion, sending you gentle (((((HUGS)))) this morning! Hope your feeling better soon!
Thanks Lk, I do too. It is starting to be a drag now.
We have had a good rain the past few days, and it has removed a lot of pollen from the air, so my allergies are doing a bit better! Lets hope they don't return, and it gets warmer and drier again!
lk, all the snow did for us--- kill the fleas and eggs on the ground.
got little oreo in one hand, hence typing like this.
marion, did u have anything 2 greasy lately. that's my antidote 2 for upset tummy--ginger ale or tea. hope u get to feeling better.
bbl.
Good Morning!
Thought I better check in, had a rough week this past, so i am glad it's over.
Upward and onward ...
I've got to go back and catchup with everyone:
The one thing that is going to carry me through the rest of winter??
Sistah Gathering 2011 Planning it for the First weekend of August...Lizrainey will be here then.
i hope you are all enjoying the day today, suns out here.
Brr, Jaye hope you are keeping warm and staying out of snow.
Sunshine is out, now I hope it warms up a little. My sweet peas haven't poked their little heads up yet, hope all that rain we had didn't "stunt their growth". Well, better get myself dressed and hoping DH is feeling better so we can make our weekly trip to the thrift store.
LOl Jaye. You betcha. Feel like a road trip?? We could go get some. :))
know what you mean about SS. Been paying in since I was 15. Be lucky if there is any of it when I get there.
Keep the snow everyone. I really don't need it here.
Hey Neener! How are you doing? Sure hope the snow stops soon for all of you!
