What are you ordering 2011

I cant wait for this season.

WFF does have some interesting bulbs every fall, especially Narcissus that I order. They are usually healthy and true and the Narcissus are priced comparably to other good bulb vendors that I use (Brent and Becky, John Scheepers, McClure & Zimmerman and Eflowergarden) But I think their annuals & perennials are too expensive to order online, plus they are retailed at so many nurseries that I just pick up the ones they grow at a independent nursery representing them like Bartletts Farm on Nantucket or Dutton's in Newfane Vt or Country Gardens in Hyannis. I do love their inspirational catalog and give them credit for starting a movement in retailing plants, so I am happy to buy certain bulbs from them each fall. I haven't been there in person in years, so I may have to try get there this spring. I covet their wisteria tree. Patti

I agree about the catalogue. I have drawn inxpiration from it too.
Recently I down loaded all their planter combos.
I believe they were or are owned by Jackson Perkins. Not positive.

I did get some nice roses at WFF last fall...the prices were competitive, & I could smell the flowers to check their fragrance....that's one thing I miss ordering from catalogs & online.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I always found them too expensive and hoity. They contacted me about using one of my photos in their catalog on on their website. They wanted me to send a hi-res photo IN CASE they decide to use it. I said no thanks.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Well mostly everything that i am planting this year are in seeds and rhizomes that I traded for over this fall. I can not wait for Spring to come and things to start growing and blooming. I planted 50 tulips just ordinary red i look forward to them coming up I bought them this fall at Sams club. Well that's it I think that the only plant that I am ordering on line is a Brugmansia 'maya' which is variegated. http://www.countrygdn.com/orderbrugF.html this is the variegated one that I am ordering.

Maybe it should go for a Franklinia instead??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

did you get another one?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, though I intend to.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

have placed two more orders.

yesterday ordered a kashima jm and a acer pseudo. eskimo sunset - from buckrun nursery

this morning placed a large jm order with davidsans - royale, olsen's frosted strawberry, waterfall, and osakazuki. will add one or two more to this order as well.

almost done now for this year

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, scurrying off to check them out.

Quoting:
almost done now for this year

huh???????????doubt it. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

heard back from davidsans and finalized the order with a ichigyoji and aratama.

Thomaston, CT

Bill......your wife is amazing.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes she is marilyn - hopefully she will keep me when i finally tell her what i have ordered.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Does she do lots of eye rolling as my DH does when I fess up to my excesses? Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i would be happy with eye rolling - i will not come clean if there is a rolling pin within reaching distance - may let the boxes at the garage door speak for themselves

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Maybe you ought to take out the rolling pin and make her a nice pie. Perhaps, you might just get her distracted enough to just get eye rolling instead of pin throwing. Patti

Thomaston, CT

I used to hide the boxes from DH....but if UPS was in the neighborhood, he was suspicious! Will be ordering Pretty Petticoat penstemon from Dutch Gardens....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx pirl - it looks like the photos were not re-touched in the ads, nice looking hydrangea and i like the fact it reblooms on old and new growth.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I have Pinky Winky but it hasn't bloomed yet. One branch fell to the ground and rooted itself so technically, since I separated them, I have two of them now.

i have a p/w and it is nice - has bloomed since i got it, purchased locally and was large.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I moved one in early November and it will get more sun so I hope to see some blooms this year.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My Pinky Winky is getting to the age where it's starting to bloom. So far so good. That one looks really nice, Bill. Would like some first-hand experience with it.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My Pinky Winky bloomed the first year I planted it, and last year (it's second year). I'm surprised they are taking so long to bloom for you.

Vanilla Strawberry is in it's third year here. It's a very nice one. I wouldn't say it's better than Pinky, it's just different. And worth having the two. My favorite still has to be Limelight.

New for me this year is Bombshell, and Sweet Summer. Sadly we can't grow anything but the paniculatas, arborescens, and quercifolias. A few of the serratas do OK.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Polly. Seems brighter pink in the photos. Not so?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, for now at least, I've obtained permission to add a garden next to the garage, a "few straight feet". I'll take anything I can get, as DH likes grass and a nice big green lawn. I asked to put in a new bed to connect a spruce tree, crab apple and shrub, but the response to that was - that's the whole lawn, you already have blah blah blah! Good thing he has other good qualities!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

limelight is your favorite - what do you like about it? for some reason i have passed by it several times at garden centers because it has not caught my eye - do you have it planted with something to contrast the blooms?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats, Deb! Make sure you eyeball those few feet, not measure them!

I have Limelight - not really impressed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My favorite paniculata is either Pink Diamond or Quickfire. Still reserving judgment on Pinky.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I wouldn't say Pinky Winky is less bright. It's really the size of the florets that differ. Pinky has large florets, and Vanilla Strawberry smaller.

I like the green on Limelight. But it needs to be in some shade to keep the green,. But what I like about it is the green, and the fact it doesn't have to be trained to stay upright as much as some. My contrasting plant for the Limelights is White Moth which has a much larger bloom. The white on Limelight is very white, also. And Limelight is sterile, or mostly so.

I like Pink Diamond too, Victor. The only paniculata I don't care for is Tardiva. To me it looks coarse. Chantilly Lace is another favorite.

Here's the only pictures I find of the two together, but Limelight is not at it's peak of green. The combo gets much better a couple of weeks after this. I'll have to remember to get pics next year.

I love the greenish cast of Limelight as well. It's backed up by green shrubs so it stands out quite well. I still love many of the lacecaps more but Limelight is still a winner to me.

Pink Diamond - I'll reserve judgement, just like Victor said of others.

Tardiva I love and in September it's glorious.

Here's Beni Gaku, one of my top 100 lacecap hydrangeas!

Wish I could grow the lacecaps here, but just too cold! I've been thinking about Strawberry Vanilla, but also am thinking about Mystical Flame, because it's so compact, & I don't have much room....
