Coffee Break #50

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

My BIL was a NYC bus driver, retired with a nice pension and moved to Orlando, -custom built house. Didn't like being idle so he went to work driving buses for Diseny, avid Karate Black belt, gym room in the house and never smoked. Came down with Parkinson's, now in a wheelchair developing complications and less and less responsive to stimuli every day. - such is life.

Anything is possible anytime. That's why you have to enjoy life. But it doesn't mean you neglect or ignore your health. At least it doesn't to me.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

..It shouldn't, my BIL is 57 years old.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Sometimes things can't be helped I agree but when it comes to your over all health and being healthy why not take care of yourself? I want to dance at my GDs weddings! My mom died at 58 from Pancreatic cancer...often wonder why...I don't want that to be me!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Last day to vote on the Tacky Light Tour for Allison. For some reason this year I show her listed twice.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks Polly!!!!

I saw someone pass away from pancreatic cancer, he was in his mid 30's, he had just moved here from Russia with his young wife, it was awful.

Thomaston, CT

Hopefully sister will be fine, Victor....they may be overcautious. Glad MIL is recovering, & your Dad as well, Allison. Just returned from NH....Doug's niece not doing well with the Alzheimer's....she's having difficulty walking now.....her sister will not even consider a nursing home, but things are getting very tough.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

always a hard decision ... so sorry to hear that RD

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks.

That's a really rough situation, Marilyn. I hope they all have the strength and resources to get through the tough times.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

that is tough marilyn

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here with my aunt, Marilyn. Worst is that her only son is in FL and is no help.

Thomaston, CT

That is pretty awful....my Gram had Alzheimer's, as well as my Uncle Jim. My cousin lived in Florida at the time...his wife was Director of Nursing at one of the hospitals. Well, Uncle Jim had to be hospitalized for something, & escaped from the hospital.....administrator had to call Barb & tell her FIL was missing....they eventually found him hiding in the parking lot. I think they were very negligent, & I'm afraid Shelley won't put her sister in care because of things like that happening.....

Ridiculous! As if banning these words would actually make a difference.

Reminds me of the thread I had on words and phrases that drive us crazy.

Marilyn, a shame about that water bar being damaged by the plow guy. I've heard of much worse happening, though. I would have kept the asphalt chunks for garden stepping stones if any were big enough. They can make good ones. Sad about your Dad. Some people just don't want to do what it takes to stay alive and healthy. Sorry to hear about Doug's niece. Alzheimer's is terrible.

Celeste, how awful for the people to have the tractor trailer truck smash into their home! That's a freak accident. Don't hear that too often.

Victor, great news on your MIL's surgery. Glad to hear it went well. All the prayers helped. I'll pray now that she can quit the smoking. Surely will extend her life a little more. Prayers also for your sister. The Miss Piggy quote was cute.

Allison, prayers for your Dad, too. Hate to hear about people being in pain. My brother, btw, is doing well so far.

WC, I could never scuba dive. Maybe in shallow water, but not deep. I have a phobia of deep water. Scares me to no end. Sad when someone takes good care of their health and such and then are struck down by a disease that no amount of care can stop. You're right, WC, such is life. It is what it is. Like with my sleep apnea. I will have to use a CPAP machine with a mask over my face every night for the rest of my life to treat it. I don't like the thought, but I've accepted that it's what I have to do to be healthy. It is what it is.

Glad your brother is coming along, Karen....it will take awhile to heal. I'm with you on the scuba diving....I would get very seasick!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Heard on the radio yesterday you can scuba dive in a former ICBM silo. Pretty weird.

Apple screwed up again. Seems New Years messed with the iPhone alarms and many missed their wake-ups! That also happened after daylight savings. They're getting like Microsoft.

Thomaston, CT

They need my dogs....will never miss a wake-up!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Better than a rooster?!

Thomaston, CT

You bet! Cold nose in your ear is a definite wakeup!

I'm thinking maybe a twister that stayed at high altitude.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How high do those birds fly?!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Don't know, lots of weird stuff happening with the atmosphere. Last year we had those weird cloud formations in different areas of the country too. Hope our shield from radiation doesn't change suddenly. Jupiter lost a main cloud belt in May and Saturn now has a mega-storm raging.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I know. I put off my trip to Saturn! ^_^

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

(lol!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And the price of those Saturn peaches is gonna go through the roof!

Long weeke - the bathroom is gettin a total over haul. From the ceiling to the

Thanking God for His protection...My nephew is currently in the Marines in Afganistan his vehicle was hit by an IED. Joe and his driver both got concussions, but are "okay".

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. Thank God. great news. Is he coming home?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nope. 2 weeks to recooperate and then back out there fighting

East Bridgewater, MA

It's called a "down draft."

There is also "wind shear."

Usually only mentioned by meterologists with regard to airplane safety.

edit: I was talking about the bird situation....no intention of minimizing Afghan seriousness, Sorry.

Weird about those birds falling from the sky.

Yes, I was planning to go to Saturn, too, but Arizona and New Mexico were my second choice. I leave on the 10th and return on the 22nd.

Jen, good to hear your brother is okay. Praying nothing else bad happens.
