Coffee Break #50

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Karen, it was my nephew not my brother.

Thomaston, CT

Scary, Jen...glad he's OK. Have a great trip, Karen. Would love some warm sunshine about now!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Some 14 yr old boy survived -5 temps when he got lost on a ski trip. He survived because of what he learned watching Bear Grylls and Survivorman.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

That should raise the price of advertising on both shows.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They now surmise those birds were struck by lightning or hail.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Anyone's guess is just as good, I doubt they know what's going on anymore with the weather/ atmosphere because they don't have any examples to compile a computer program to predict these anomalies..

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

This is based on autopsies showing lots of trauma and internal bleeding.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The consensus should be that they have expired. (lol)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They fell, ill.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Maybe is was like in the 'Andromeda Strain' when they sent that probe up and then it came down again and messed up all those people except for the baby..

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Anywhoooo....

First priority is his family.. So naturally he goes to Disney World.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Now I heard it may have been fireworks which spooked the birds, causing them to fly into things.

Thomaston, CT

Since they had tornadoes in the state, I tend to think it was weather that killed them.....there were fish, also....don't think fish would be bothered by fireworks....

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I wonder if an abrupt shift in magnetic field could disorient birds..

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Dead birds and fish. Totally bizarre.

Happy New Year everyone!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yay! Happy New Year!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

RE: Christie, he was already in FL when the blizzard hit, did you want him to fly back during the blizzard??? What exactly could he have accomplished differently??? nothing!!!!! Our state declared state of emergency my counties' roads were spotless...I love that guy!!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think we talked about this awhile ago, about misplacing something and then freaking out and tearing the place apart looking for it?????

Happened this morning to me I couldn't find a very important notebook for our business....MAN was I freaking out...thought the kids took it, my daughter said she didn't....finally found it....sheesh what a relief!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Think we've all done that, Jen.

The fish died 100 miles away. They don't think it's related. They believe the fish had some disease.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Shame on the media for jumping on that poor guy like that (!x4!)

I hope they found the fish in the water.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I read that the fish were 100 miles away. I still think it's very odd.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

500 more birds fell in LA. Must be a southern thing.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow, that's not a good sign to say the least!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Freaky about the birds.

Jen, sorry about the mix-up. I get confused easily. Surprised I don't get things wrong more often than I do.

Will be cutting my vacation a little short due to lack of money, but will still have a good time. Flying into Phoenix on the 10th, staying 3 nights, driving up to Flagstaff for 2 days, then to New Mexico for a couple days, then back to Phoenix to fly home. That may change. My sis wants Flagstaff. If we do that we will have only a day, really, at her place in NM. She may change her mind about Flag. We'll see.

Victor, im sorry you didn't get your B-Day meal & cake on your B-Day......there are some nasty bugs going around! Both DGD came down w/strep a few days before Christmas and were not feeling as peppy as usual opening gifts. Then Justin came down with a fever Dec. 28th, we suspected strep and he was put on an antibiotic that day. That was Tuesday, on Wed. evening his fever spiked and he vommited and urinated from the force. I knew he was in trouble.. He has a seizure disorder to begin with so fevers are NO-No's, then he threw up so you have to wonder how much of his anti-seizure meds did he retain? Knowing what I know of him after 30 years...and knowing what they will do to him if i bring him to the hospital I started a 15 minute regimient of waking him and making him drink pedialyte/water and gator aid. So i got the fever to break and he finally urinated but not for almost 14 hours. I was freaking!! Can you say stress? X 3
On Friday morning he was eating again but not with his normal appetite, still sleeping alot but no fever during the day. At night I would notice him get very lathargic and sure enough his fever would spike and we'd have to give him mortin and let him sleep until the fever came down again. I slept n the couch Tues., Wed. and Thusday so I could wake him up every few hours to drink. By Friday morning I was dragging my bottom and started taking naps when he did. I called the doctor and they said as long as he's keeping his food down and the fever is not spiking past 101 then wait until Monday and give them a call back. I didn't call back, Monday morning Justin, Brian and I were in the E.R. and I was demanding test...lots of them. He was still running a fever every night, still sleeping alot, not urinating as much as he normally does and still not a good appetite after 6 days of being on 1500 mg of penicillin. That was 3 days past the mark when I would of thought i'd see a significent change.
So we spent almost 7 hours at the hospital on monday having test run. Throat culture, nasal culture, chest x-rays, bladder x-rays, catheter and urine sample, blood work and so on. Nothing! So far absolutely NOTHING! They think he may have caught strep and then a viral bug too and thats why his fever is not going away. Well we are on day 8 and what I don't understand is why no one else caught this? I am totally wipped-out so if anyone's going to get it...it will be me.
Anyone else hear of this kind of viral bug going around?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh - so sorry to hear, Celeste. You guys must be running on vapors. Hope things improve very soon. Thoughts and prayers for you guys.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

celeste i hope justin is feeling better soon!

cindy was sick last week, no strep although she did lose her voice and was in bed over the weekend with fever and very tired. her voice is now coming back and she is feeling better. i have been feeling the fever myself now and almost left work early yesterday. still hitting the elyptical when i get home hoping i will sweat out the fever. cough drops and some zyrtec-d as i feel swollen glands and my ears are popping a bit.

not sleeping well either - hope i can fight it off.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Victor...if he could talk and tell me it would help but even the test show nothing. :(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Feel better, Bill.

So far (knock wood), I seemed to have dodged the stomach virus bullet. Hope it continues.

My MIL finally went home yesterday. She is doing okay. MY wife is with her until Saturday or until her mother drives her nuts and she begs me to pick her up. ^_^

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good for your MIL, prayers for wife ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - thanks!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Hope Justin bounces back, Celeste. You'll need a vacation!

Bill - hope you dodge the bullet.

Victor - glad to hear MIL is home.

All is very well here but now I'm wondering if I should even leave the house!

Thomaston, CT

Oh, dear, Pixie....you've been having a rough time! My GD, HayHay, has also been very sick....all she could say was her stomach hurt....this after several rounds of antibiotics....they tested her for everything from celiac to parasites......nothing.....she's still not her perky self......I think it's a horrible virus.....Grant also had it, but he's fine now. Bill, sorry to hear you're not feeling well.....my son always says, "Drink orange juice". Really understand about your MIL, Victor.....went out to dinner last night with my friend from Foxboro who has to drive to CT every week to deal with a mother who should be in a nursing home....poor Barbara is so worn from the driving & verbal abuse from her mother.....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Bill & Pirl for the good wishes.
Bill, good luck but.... stay away from me! LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Robin, sorry to hear about Hayhay, but nice to know im not alone:(

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Pix, so sorry to hear about Justin. And you need to keep well to take care of him. Bless you. You're such a wonderful Mom. I can't imagine how scary it is for you.

Our granddaughter is sick again with something viral. She has been sick off and on for months now. Going to the Doctor again today. And she's a super healthy girl, no idea why she keeps getting sick like this.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Gee, you must be tired from all that Pixie, sorry to hear about Justin. Hope you find a way to get some rest too, sometimes running yourself down can lower your resistance to viruses also!
My DW is just getting over a cold/virus she's had since last Sunday, she was congested & had a fever, also complained of nausea, but was able to keep her food down. Luckily she's not on medication for any chronic condition which would probably have made the nausea worse. She's almost completely over it now but it took about 8 days.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Does anyone use Ayr? Since I started using it two years ago I have not had a cold or flu.

Thomaston, CT

No, I just get a flu shot & do pretty well....didn't get what the kids had, & HayHay's lingered for a month or so.....sorry about your GD, Polly....it's tough to see the kids sick.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Funny thing is Marilyn, she doesn't act sick. Just gets that chest rattle and cough. She had pneumonia about two months ago, and I don't think she ever felt ill.
