I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry, I never meant to bring up the past , I merely made a statement and I do apologize. I think we all have our things that tic us off and believe me, when it happens to me I usually speak out. I do not want any more discontent in this forum and I promise I will never mention her name again. I do not like people who love to fight and never give up. It is so much easier to be nice than nasty. We need to move on and I do apologize for opening an old wound. I am disappointed that Mary would lurk and then make a comment. This subject is closed as far as I am concerned. Permanently!
Jen, I had the best crab cakes I have had in ages. They were broiled with almost no filling other than crab meat. They were very large and flat, almost like the size of a big hamburger. I had french fried sweet potatoes and a wonderful salad. Wine of course the entree I ordered was $24.99. My daughter had the same thing and my SIL had scallops fried this time. They do their scallops just perfectly. So tender and not gummy.
The bill was just under $100 for the three of us and that included the tip. My daughter and I could only east one of them, so we had a doggie bag. I will have that for lunch today.
Mexican food and I do not agree. I used to vacation in Mexico and we toured a lot and ate local food and I just have a difficult time digesting it. I love the taste, but can not eat it. I can eat all kinds of spicy foods, everything, but even Taco Bell is not on my list because there is just something they use that makes me very uncomfortable.
It is so nice here today except the wind is blowing again and it feels like the temp is in the teens. It is really not that cold if the wind would stop. It must be coming from that Weatern front that you all had because the winds are coming out of the West.
I must get busy. Bird cleaning day. Please forgive me for opening an old wound. I am sorry.

Plant Propagation part XXVI based on my own experience
I am not fond of American-Mexican food. But I love true Mexican food. There is a big difference. You are right, now is not the time to travel to Mexico. We have Mexican friends who live in Mexico, and they say the same. We met so many people there over the years, and we miss seeing them. We used to take small electronics down because it was so expensive to buy there. So we would find things on sale up here, and when we went at Xmas, one suitcase was dedicated just for those, of course, coming back it was full of things we found down there. Fair exchange!!!
I was always taken by the "house" plants they had growing in the yard. Shhh don't tell anyone, but I sometimes brought back cuttings. They had poinsetta's growing wild, don't see how they could get them to bloom outside, but they did. And some of the river runs were so beautiful with the vines and orchids. Oh now I am homesick to see it all again. Those places would not be safe nowdays tho, they were way out in the "jungle". And the birds wow!!!!!
Enough about that. Talk to you all later, Lee
Hi Everyone,
Migraine is finally completely gone, so now I am playing catch up. I need to finish shopping today. I hate waiting until the last minute and I hate to shop in the crowds, but this year I had no choice. Mom had her eyes operated on yesterday and she will lose her peripheral vision, but today she can see, so she wants to get out too. we will wait until it warms up a little.
I love any kind of Mexican or Japanese or Chinese foods. I love anything spicy and I cannot stand anything plain or bland. DH says that I just like the taste of spice and that if all I had to cook with was salt and pepper i would starve to death. LOL he is probably right. I guess it is because I grew up all over the world and we always ate whatever the local foods were. Now I've been here for 30 odd years, but I still love the other stuff more.
Hope everyone has a wonderful christmas. I will check in if I can.
love you all
Linda
JB, can I come for lunch??? That sounds marvelous, wonderful!! I love seafood if it is cooked right and they don't dry it out. That is one of the best things about living on the coast. They know how to cook it.
You all talking about the real Mexican food reminds me of one time I was visiting a friend of mine who lives right on the border and he deals in fresh produce. He has Mexicans working for him. For some reason, can't remember what, we had to go to this one guy's house. Well, going thru their homes, villages, around Tijuana, where they live, is very different from the tourist areas.
There was a young man selling tacos on a street corner. He had tire rims stacked on top of each other and somehow a fire in the top one with a garbage can lid turned upside down and cooking meat in it on top, for the tacos. It was really gross to think about eating one. No, we didn't.
Bob told me when he was in Casa Grande, AZ, some years back a fellow was roasting jalapeno peppers in a huge basket turning on a spit over a propane fire on the street corner. He said the smell was so wonderful. He was selling them by the sack full.
In Union Gap, Washington, there are huge pepper farms. They are U-pick. You just take a basket and go pick the ones you want. There was a fellow there in the field eating these little peppers and tears rolling down his face but he kept shoveling them in his mouth. He said they were so good he couldn't stop eating them. I think the juice probably had a cooling affect for a few seconds before the heat from them kicked in.
I used to love the hot stuff, but now have a stomach problem so try not to get too many pepper flakes etc. in my cooking.
JB, I have never had sweet potato fries. Have seen them make them on the cooking channel, so does the sweet flavor go with other things like the regular fries do?
I baked some sweet potatoes a while back to make some biscuits, a new recipe to me, and they were so sweet just baked like that.
Well, just talking about all this food has made me so hungry. Gotta go find something to go with my coffee. ttyl,
Since I live in Mexico I feel obliged to speak up. In the fourteen years I've been here there has been only one murder in our town. As that was a person who cheated me regularly in his role as manager of the property where I lived I could not summon up a lot of pity for him. Some, but not a lot.
I think a lot of the problems are in the border towns and the big cities. Where I live is a small town. As there is most everywhere, there are some problems with drugs and alchohol. And, as in many small towns there are those of us who are sober and hard-working (or at least not trouble-making) and there are the others. My friend Tony who works for me and I talk often about how there are two kinds of people - and the difference is not in nationality.
I love the food here but rarely eat out. It's just not a habit I ever developed. I am friends with many of the food sellers as they are hardworking and I appreciate that. I also take them flowers when I have them and I gave one taco stand couple a large dragonfruit plant and several cuttings for more.
I feel very fortunate to have found a home and community here.
Anyone who wants to visit some of the worlds great beaches (the Bay of Conception is just south of here) or go whale watching in San Ignacio (70 miles north of here) can feel safe to come down.

Oh Katie, my sonl visits Mexico yearly. His fellow graduates from USC meet twice a year. They rent a villa or house or something and they love it. I agree the border towns are the problem. They are having big problems. I could not help but giggle reading about the man who was shot, the one that cheated you..........it sounded like you shot him. LOL Sorry, sounds like something I would say and do. LOL The girl who cleans for me has a time share in Mexico, can not remember where, but she loves it and goes there several times a year. How did you get to Mexico, if I may ask! When I was working on the Horse Breeding Farm most of the workers were Mexican and I made some very good friends during those years. There are some very nice people come here to work, just sad the bad ones (illegals) make it unpleasant for the legal ones. We had a 0 tolerance for drugs on the horse farm, but they did love their "cervasa" is that how you spell Beer in Spanish. Never did learn how to spell in Spanish, just learned the bad words. JB
No, I didn't shoot him. Mexicans are not nice to Americans who kill their nationals. ("The Closer" had a wonderful episode which used that information.) He was killed by a couple of druggies who thought that because he was known to have money (lots of it mine!!) that they could kidnap him and get some of it.
I came here originally due to an extremely dysfunctional family. I took my mother from a nursing home where she was being abused and brought her here for the last (happy) months of her life. Long, stupid story.
Christmas Eve is the big fiesta day here. Late night parties and lots of drinking. I don't drink and I fall alseep early. My celebration cosists of donning my home-made Sant costume late Christmas day morning and driving around giving the local kids candy and stuffed toys. It gives all of us a sober Christmas experience. Something I certainly appreciate. I missed last year due to a nasty bite from a neighbor's dog but am looking forward to doing my rounds lthis year.
Happy Holidays to all,
katie
Enjoy your holidays, Katie, no matter how you decide to celebrate. LOL Sounds like your drive around is a wonderful way to spend part of your day. God Bless you.
Well, I think sometimes these forums are a PITA. I wondered out of my comfort zone (this forum) and was seriously looking for information on certain Christmas Cactus. There are dozens of cacti forums and I choose one that seemed it may work, well I ask a question that was NOT on the topic (it was about the Easter Cacti on another Holiday Cacti forum) and got told not to get off topic and to start my own. Nothing like a kick in the head when you are trying to learn. Oh well, I left there but not before I told them I thought they were rude. You know, there are so many darn forums on so many subjects it is too time consuming to try and find one related to propagating and growing only. Do you realize if you start a new topic on each species how much time you would take finding information?
Oh well, Off I go to clean up the kitchen. This is such a nice place to be. Maybe it is me but I never had a problem getting along with people until I met some of the impolite, rude, degrading people on Daves Garden. My God some people on here are just mean.
I agree, JB. I left one thread after telling a "know-it-all" privately that I would like her to stop giving me her (patronizing) advice. She responded that I was too sick to be there and then went to the thread and whined about not being appreciated. Well, she had that right!!
On the other hand, when I thought my purse with cherimoya and star fruit seeds was stolen, two DG'ers immediately offered to send me replacements.
I've just had a very painful experience with a neighbor and it has been my friends herre who have really come through for me. I find the Accessible Gardening Forum to be great for me as we all acknowledge that we have handicaps, both physical and mental. I need a tolerant group and they are.
And, specifically, I agree about the "topic" issue. There is often not a good way to search for information here. Since I tend to bumble around I like other who either work the same way or are accepting of those of us who do.
And remember that for many it's the season to be a Grinch. Christmas cactus indeed!
katie
Boy, if off topic subjects weren't allowed on here, I would really become a lurker only.
Katie, I love Mexico, in fact we would have moved down there had my Mom not been needing help when we retired. We had planned that for several years before necessity interfered. I didn't mean to say all of Mexico was dangerous. It appears that way because of the media coverage. However, some of the places we went were a little dangerous then, and I would suppose more so now. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Mazatlan, which was our favorite staying place. Even there were places outside of the main areas that were questionable. We always felt safe tho, and when we went afar, we always had Mexican companions that knew the areas. I would think it would be the same, no matter where you traveled. I think the food is the best, and contrary to popular belief, it isn't as hot and spicy as it is here. To get hot, you need to ask for it. At least that is what we found in our travels.
JB as for rude people, some of them just don't get it. I had noticed the trend when I first joined DG and I think that is why I became a member of this forum. I feel like you are all my friends, and we can say or discuss anything. Maybe that friendship is making the others jealous since they don't have it. The only way you guys will ever get rid of me is by asking me to leave. Otherwise, you poor people are stuck with me. :) :) LOL
I think I am going to send everyone on DG a bag of "Tolerance" for Christmas. That includes me because I nearly lost it and almost got nasty, but I have been told by the Administration they are watching my language so I am very careful. I do love DG as a really great place to learn and listen. It is difficult to sound pleasant everyday when in fact some days I do not feel pleasant. I am sure you understand what I am saying. Anyhow, when I am not expecting a "snippy" remark, i tend to get my "Spanish" up, yes, I have a Spanish Grandmother. Not Mexican. I must look up that forum. I would like to start my own forum for General Discussion of Holiday Cactus, but I do not know how. I am sure there are other people like me who really want to learn more about all species of Holiday Cacti and have no place to go without being belittled by the "know it alls". Hang in there baby. LOL. JB
Hey Montana Molly, I for one think Dave is stuck with all of us. I love you all and just now it is difficult to discuss plants when the plants are all resting. Sure, we could ask Dave to teach us a class on something...........hey Jen, what do you want to learn about. We could use a class on "How not to be censored on DG". Jen and I could teach that one. LOL
I am so bad. There comes the coal in my stocking again. D***! It was only the fact that I think I am on probation or I would have told that smart you know what exactly what I thought.
You see, I truly want to learn, I was not thinking I was doing any wrong since I ask a question about a species of Holiday Cacti and the discussion was about Christmas Cacti.
Oh well, to H with it, I need to learn how to start my own forum. One for general discussion.
Everyone will be welcome and no question is stupid. All know it alls need not open their mouths unless they can speak with respect for those of us who want to learn. So there.
Maybe Dave could help me with that.
LOL, JB, I had the same thing happen to me in a forum I stumbled onto and it was Canadian. I was told in no uncertain terms it was Canadian. So, I left it and on another forum I said something about them being rude and one of them responded about I had misunderstood or some such thing.
Oh well, I have been to a lot of forums where I did not really feel comfortable like I do here, and I am sure there are people who read us and don't feel they would like to stick around. Which is fine.
But, one thing I do wish and that is that if people are just going to lurk for a long time, that they speak up and let us know they are there and maybe they could add something to our little world here.
I don't think we are really hard to get along with. Anyway, I got my dog's food in the oven, a turkey in brining, and now I am ready to sit for a few minutes.
I do have a problem tho, maybe you all would have some suggestions. I told you I have a little blind dog. A miniature Siberian Husky (appears to be so probably a mix). Anyway, gives you an idea of her size. Well, the cat has started "attacking" her. I thought she just wanted to play, but anyway, the dog does her woo woo thing. Trying to tell us I guess. Anyway, Bob fed her, the dog, and she kept coming in where we were and telling us something. I told Bob the cat was attacking Karley but he doesn't believe it. Finally, he went and got the dog's food and put it in the bedroom by her bed and closed the door. She ate it all.
Now I am wondering if the cat wants to eat with the dogs. Their food. Not necessarily with them, but some of what they get. The cat does swat at the dog once in a while. She will lay on the seat of the chair and when Karley goes by she swats at her.
It must be terribly frustrating to the dog 'cause she never knows when this is going to happen. I don't know if she knows what the cat wants, or is doing. I suppose I could go over on the forum for cats, I think there is one I was looking at the other day. Maybe I could ask them also. What do you think? Any suggestions?
Jim at www.gotepis.com might be a good resource for you on the Christmas cactus.
I'm back to wrapping Christmas presents. I've never had a child critize me for being "off the subject."
katie
Good morning campers...
Ok well as far as the illeagle status some of the working people have to be that way. I ran several drews of workers in florida and there were a lot of them I "kinda" knew were here illeaglely. its sad because like the rest of the usa citizen there is a small group of people that are criminal and choose to continue that pattern. we don't judge everyone based on the few (or not so few) people that should be in prison. The same thing applies in mexico. There are a lot of hard working people who have 2 choices starve or do what work they can find. I did notice the ladies from mexico worked circles around the men for the most part. Yes there are proper ways to imigrate to the us but the system is so messed up like the rest of our government with all the red tape and hoops we have to jump through just to make something happen. I truely feel if we did not have the migrant workers who are willing to work for the little pay we offer our farms would either fold up or the they would have to charge more for their crops making the price of all the cops so expensive and sometimes out of the budjet of most of those living so close to the edge of bankruptcy. a lot of american are 2 to 3 paychecks away from being in big trouble financially. I hope this makes sense as I am on one of my rants again....
well I am speachless ...no say it aint so...
I will be on a plane early tomorrow am so I will be out of touch for a few days but I will try to check in as much as possible. Have a merry christmas and may all your wishes be granted
Dave
Hey Dave, do not stick any plants in your underwear or when you go thru the checker you will be arrested. Dave has plants in his pants NO NO NO NO.
If you think you are ranting, join in because I am about to begin the new year with a new soap box subject.
Hope your weather is flyable Dave. Seriously, you seem to be in the path of the storm or is it south of you. I will pray for your safety and well being as soon as I have time. I am serious.
I wish you all would get out of bed, I need to talk to you. I am feeling rejected. I think I will walk the dog since I am not only rejected but bored. I walked this morning and the wind is gusting again and it is really nasty. I can not stand the wind. I feel it hampers my walking and my vertigo. Oh well. I will give it a try. Take care and remember I love you all. JB
How about a Forum called the No Topic forum. Two types of threads - tolerance and rants. Lots of rants about people who are intolerant. Sense of humor is the only requirement for membership.
katie
lol
Katie, you are so bad. LOL What are you laughing at Dave? Where is everyone. Snowed in I guess.
I am here, what shall we rant and rave about next. I am open for it :)
To paraphrase a line from "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe" - Yes, I'm bad. And you love me for it.
katie
What do you think Katie, has JB left us from more boredom?
Dave, you and yours be careful. But while being careful, have a wonderful time, and MERRY CHRISTMAS.
This forum is screwed up. I posted up above and there were no posts there that I had not read. Now I look at it, and you all posted several stuck in ahead of mine. So, nobody even had a suggestion on my problem. Would you go back up to a little after noon and give me your opinion?
Boy, am I asking for it. Opinion!!
You have to remember this is JB's dinner time. I mean cocktail time.
Well, I just got home. I am a Blond again. Went to Target. Actually found what I was looking for.
Now I have to put together a Christmas basket for my dear friend Esther Mae and get it delivered tomorrow. Also have checks and letters to write. Someone is hand carrying them tomorrow to Spokane.
JB, you are wonderful and no need to apologize for anything. Merry Christmas. Your dinner made me hungry.
Dave have a wonderful and safe trip. Merry Christmas.
Lee, or has it changed to Montana Molly, stay inside and bee safe and warm. Linda, so glad your migraine is gone. Merry Christmas to all.
Katie, I am with you. I hater it when people call Las Vegas "Sin City". We are all not sinners. Merry Christmas
Jnette, have a wonderful, warm and safe Christmas.
This photo was posted last year in the Iris Forum. I got permission to use. I love this photo but I love birds.
Cross Post.
Sounds like poor kitty is feeling left out of the fun, and trying to make some for itself. Has she "kitty" actually eaten any of the doggy food. Is it different from her food? Does she actually hurt the dog? I think she may be lonesome. so there, I tried to answer what my beady little brain says:)
I don't know where this Montana Molly comes from, hadn't seen it before. Do you realize that it was my Mom's name. I would wear it proudly:)

Here I am, drink in hand, yes, Jen it is cocktail time. I am just exhausted and need to sit but I must answer your post. I did not see it before or I would have answered it sooner. You had one other one that was edited and I thought you were cussing or something, then nothing from you until now when you told us where to look.
Anyhow..........my cats do the same thing to the dog, they want to play and have him chase them when they do it. They are outside cats and have claws, etc. and I am scared silly that the dog will get hurt. He weighs 30 pounds. But he is 13 and not as sharp as he used to be. They hide and jump out an attack him and then run like crazy and lay down on the grass and wait for him to respond. Most of the time he ignores them. When he feels like it he chases them a few feet and then we start all over.
My cats will eat almost anything, so maybe yours wants to eat the dog food. I think he is just being playful and if the dog does not want to play she can bite him. He will soon learn not to mess with her. Cats are very playful and it seems even more so when raised with dogs.
Just found another post of your Jen about the sweet potatoes. They are the orange sweet potatoes, not the yellow. The yellow do not bake or fry and well as the orange.
You can buy them frozen now also. They all use the orange.
I gotta go. I am so tired and need to relax. Love you all. So glad we can just plain talk on here as well as do our plant things also. I think we are nice and welcome nice people.
If you can not be nice, get the H out of here. Hee hee JB
I've had cats who liked to tease dogs. And a dog who would share his food with one of our cats, but not the others.
My first thought is - does the cat have a bell or something the dog can hear s a warning? The dog should be able to smaell the cat but this doesn't tell him wither the cat is in attack mode. Maybe you could entice the cat to hang out at a spot that is high enough to make it difficult to swipe at the dog. You could put a pillow on the chair to raise the cat up out of easy swiping reach.
I've had cats who ate dog food and dogs who ate cat food. I usually leave dry food out for both but the cat food is up where the dogs can't get it.
Don't know if any of this helps but at least I'm not ignoring you.
katie
Ah Lee, I love the name Molly . I had a dear friend and neighbor named Molly and I miss her so. I guess I just decided to name you Montana Molly. I am trying to think of a name for Jen but they all come out naughty and I need to think on a day when my brain is nicer.
Love from Jerky Jacquie. Oh God, I must stop while I still have some dignity.
JB you can call me anything, except for late to dinner. Sounds like you are quite the cook. I will pass on the cocktails tho. I quit that many moons ago before DH was DH. We couldn't drink together we always fought, since I wasn't much of a drinker, I was the one to quit. Besides, I don't like the taste of it. Now after almost 40 years, it was the right thing to do. He still has his beer, and I am perfectly OK with it, well most of the time. I think it is cute of you to have that Cocktail hour. I laugh whenever I see a post about that from you and Jen.
Lee
Where is Sharon and the others? I am about to go to bed and I did not say Hello to them yet. Oh well, that is the price I pay for being on the East Coast. Love you. Hugs.
You need to move your cocktail hour later and I will bump mine up so we can drink together Jerky Jacquie. LOL. Yes, Lee, I have always loved the name Molly too. I have a niece named Molly. I had a black lab I named Molly one time. Gave her away. Only 'cause she and the guy got along so well and I didn't need another dog.
Thanks for all of your opinions on the dog and cat saga. I think she wants to play too and the dog, before she became blind, was playful, but runs into things when she tries to play now so she quit playing.
But that is why I have tried not to punish the cat, but I have to sympathize with the dog since she is being attacked without knowing where or when. Don't know why she would smell the cat coming when there is cat smell all over the house, just like dog smell. Things I don't smell, but I know they do.
Guess I need to kick her butt out for a while during the day when it is fairly warm. I mean like 36 at the warmest.
I will give her some of their food today tho and try that. I make them food with a whole chicken or several thighs and drumsticks, rice, carrots, beans, peas, and a dozen eggs. A big casserole and then bake it. Today I switched a chub of hamburger for the chicken in case they are getting tired of the chicken. I make up enough for almost 2 weeks at a time. Bob freezes it in bread loaf pans.
Sharon posted a couple of times an hour ago. I think these posts are coming thru all jumbled up. Maybe admin is toss them up in the air lol. Better not give J
B any more ideas. They are already getting coal from her for Christmas.
OK, I will sneak away from cleaning for just a few minutes, as we are having company tonight. I am almost through. I just need to put away some of the unsorted boxes of seeds in their proper boxes that I got out for the piggy swap and then put them in the underbed storage bin. I like the fact that they are nearby.
Katie ~ "Rants" and "Tolerance"?
JB ~ What do you think of that. Also, maybe one about cats and dogs...not just dogs, and not just cats, but their interaction. And Birds? JB you would have to be in charge of this one. Maybe Linda can co-host it with you.
Linda ~ Please don't look at the computer (or TV) screen too long...we don't want you to get your migraine back...I know they are awful. I used to have them, but fortunately, not lately. Do you have fluorescent lights in your house? It does affect some people with migraines. (Even the compact fluorescent ones).
My computer just went offline, so this message may not go through....oh, it's on again. I will send it now...
Sorry I missed the rest of you; I will have to post tomorrow or in a few days.
Merry Christmas to all of you wonderful folks! XXXXXXOOOOOOXXXXXOOOO
Jeanette have you tried to feed them at the same time a few feet apart with different bowls? but the same food. it sounds like the cat thinks he is missing out on something special... time to remove the thought???? just a thought and worth a try
Dave
Thanks Dave. I gave her her fancy stuff last night but up off the floor where she normally eats but different stuff but at the same time. I thought I would give her the same as they get but in the normal place. I have found in the past that if you don't put the cat food up higher, the dogs will eat it. I almost lost a cat that way. She kept getting skinnier and skinnier and I couldn't think why. Then I figured it out when she was almost dead. The dogs were eating her food.
Evelyn, I knew I was missing someone this afternoon. I went through the days posts but you were not there and my mind was not working. How could I forget you. Merry Christmas. Enjoy your company. Good night everyone. See you tomorrow. Love you all, Sharon.
Where is Dawn???Merry Christmas Dawn.
We do miss one here and there Sharon. I e. I did not have addresses for JB or Evelyn. Couldn't find them. Therefore I couldn't send cards to them. But they know I love them just as much as if I had.
Guess I will be starting cooking a few of the dishes tomorrow that I can fix and just heat up on Saturday while the rest of the stuff is cooking.
ttyl,
Hi gosh I can't keep up in the little time I have had and missed all the previous conversation with and about Mary.
Mary sent me a beautiful Angel for my tree with a Card.
Now I am not one who wants drama either but I have to say. I may have missed something but from what I remembered, she was mad at her adult GS, who she did everything for and he was not doing anything for her and being a brat. I think she thought she was venting to friends.
That was my take on it for the record guys.
I skim a lot these days.
I was on a thread once that was shut down and I hate to see that happen here. We all are so entertaining and witty.
