ok and the pic is of Jerry Nettles day lily

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Beautiful day lily Dave.

Now as for reading Jen posts. Of course I read them and as for what is wrong with your lovely Christmas Flower you hate, I hate them too, they are poisonous to animals and birds so they tell me so I never have one around. I have no clue it is dying, but I am glad.

As for did my life change after 70, yes, and so will yours. I have always had self control and I guess it is because I had to be in control at all times the kind of life I led as a young mother of four married to a criminal lawyer.
Any other questions? JB

You can move but I always find you.

arghhhh

Mary I am not finding picasso any where in seed form. my favorite sites are

http://www.hazzardsgreenhouse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=Hazwho
http://www.seedaholic.com/flowers.html/#Flowers
http://www.stokeseeds.com/cgi-bin/StokesSeeds.storefront
http://www.ovm-seeds.com/storefrontprofiles/default.aspx?sfid=136776
http://www.summerhillseeds.com/
http://www.agrich.net/seeds.html

I look to these sites for my seeds and also ebay and a seach for the specific seed or plant. you might find a good substitute or try the huge retailers like parks, burpee or thompson & morgan they might have them or can point you to a good source for it.

I hope this helps Dave
I like to use for my searches

google works well too

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Oh yea pointsettia.... I need to know more before i can advise. temp? daylength? watering? where it sits all day? is it by a door??? anything and everything.... being a native to central mexico I would tend to lean towards a water issue.

oh boy ....lol..... controll is an illusion. one only has as much controll over another person as that person gives the controller. one of my favorite things to discuss because its got lots of gray area and I love the gray area. give me the rules and I will go to town bouncing around within the limits ...if I so desire to play ball...lol

hmmm 70 young mother of 4 married to a criminal lawyer..... offense or defense? I can only imagine the stuff you had to deal with. I guess trees make sense as they don't break the law and expect to be able to keep doing it and stay free....
I will stop there before I go into a long drawnout eye bleeding rant....huggs
Dave

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

oh yea lunar eclipse tonight 12:00 on

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

How did we get to here? JB, did you pull his chain? Must have. How do I stop him? LOL I don't think he will run down.

Ok Dave, here is a picture of it. Remember tho, I took this at night and lightened it with my Picasso. So, I agree it is a little dark. I water it from the bottom about every other day. 6" plastic pot.

I don't know if my edit lightening it held.

Thumbnail by Jnette
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Nope, it went back to a lot darker than it really is. And, like I said, it is night time.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I have Poinsettias outside in clusters of three per pot. Costco had 4 6" pots for 19.99. So I purchased 8 pots total. They have been outside there for three weeks and look great. One looked a little peaked today and I checked and it had to much water from the rain. The water was not draining because of the foil wrapping around the pot. I think to much water is the main problem. They also do not like drafts. Some leaves yellowing is normal.

It is probably JB's thoughts that are killing your plant.

Well, Dave has been rather quiet lately. I guess it is time for him to rant. Rant on Dave. Always make you feel better. I think we are cheaper than a doctor.

Still raining and I did not do much today. But packages are in the mail, all two of them. LOL..The new fashion thing this year is mis-matched socks. So I got two pair for each of the younger grand daughters as stocking stuffers. Along with their cash gift.

Lee, so glad to see we did not lose you.

JB, one time I went to a cocktail lounge with z group. I had a very bad cold. We sat at the bar because the place was full. The bartender said he had a great cure for my cold. Heated B&B. Well it was delicious. Just a splash in a small brandy snifter. Well when I was just beginning my third one my nose started to go numb. I think that was from the first drink. Thank goodness my nose went numb before I completely drank the third drink. Soon my upper lip was going numb and I knew immediately I was in big time trouble. I had a friend take me home right away before I crashed and burned. So now if I have B&B, it is one short shot. That was over 40 years ago. I had just known Vern for a short time.

Jnette, saw Spokane on the national news showing all the cars sliding into each other. Be careful young lady. Later friends, Sharon. Where is Evelyn? Probably snowed in.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Jnette, cross post again...

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Come on you guys, you cant lose me. I am like a bad penny, I just keep turning up when you least expect me:)
My little one has been put in the doggy hospital. Still not knowing what is wrong, other than age. Storm is doing well, but still trying to become a novice gardner. I swear, he can find plants I didn't know still existed, and has to dig through the snow to find them, who knows what I will find in the flower beds come spring. Hey, maybe I should just tie seed packs to him and let him go----ttyal, Lee

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Sharon ~ We are not snowed in. There was rain, hail, then snow last night with fierce winds, but by morning the rain had washed the snow away. Strange storm like menopause - running hot and cold. High of 45° today. Stayed in today. We are preparing for the holidays, as I finished my "piggy swap"....not sure if I will do that again, but if I do, I will at least know what to do and how to do it and not get caught at the last minute packing seeds instead of addressing holiday cards. To all those who I have promised packages, they will probably be after Christmas, as my husband has invited guests over for the 23rd. As well, tomorrow we visit with his brother and niece, so not too much more time. I probably won't even get all my cards out. Do you have clear weather? Will you go out to watch the total eclipse of the moon?

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!

JB and Jeannette ~ I hope that your weather has warmed up a bit. I hope that our winter will leave early this year since it arrived so early...well, one can hope.

Dave ~ Are you warm and cozy?

Lee ~ Maybe you should contact Digging Dog Nursery and they might have a job for Storm? http://www.diggingdog.com (Sorry about the other one...how old is he?)

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Fred is 12. We also have his brother who is doing fine. I can only hope for the best for him.
Storm has found the fountains under all that snow. Help me
It is 7 below zero here, so no outside activities going on here :)
Lee

Pawleys Island, SC

Hi Everyone, It's the other bad penny here. Still fighting the tinges of leftover migraine, but it is gone for the most part. I've been using my sons pirate patch and it does help to cover that eye. Not much going on here. I've basically just slept this whole week. I can't believe I missed the lunar eclipse, but then I didn't want to get out of my comfy bed and go into the cold to look at the moon anyway.
Today, If I do decide to go into the cold, I will start a few winter sowing containers. I have been saving some 2 liter bottles and a couple of milk jugs to try it. I haven't decided what to start yet, but I am sure i can come up with something.
Lee, I hope your little one is ok and JB I hope your cat comes back. I hate the waiting and not knowing what is going on with our animal babies.
Gotta go check on the greenhouse. need to get outside and breathe fresh air today.
Sea ya

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Big Cat has returned. He was locked in the basement of the house. He must have gone in there Sat. when the guys were moving some things into the space. Last night my SIL said he was going to look there, since we have looked all over the farm in all the hiding places. That was Sat. well, last night he went out and there he was all warm and cuddly. He coaxed him out with milk and lunch meat and this morning Big Cat was at the back door looking for breakfast. I am so happy.

Two people came in yesterday to buy trees. One guy was a bit nasty. I merely told them we were closed and I was not going to go out and cut him a tree. I sent them to the neighbors Market. They still had some leftover.

All is well here except it is cold and very windy again. I hate the wind. I watered the GH for the first time in two days. Everything in there looks pretty good.

I am going to make a chicken pie today, so I will get back to you later. JB

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

So glad about your cat JB. Lee, thoughts coming your way to help your dog get better. Evelyn, so glad to hear you are not snowed in and cold. Linda, glad your migraine is going away. Jnette, looks like you are getting snow. Lee, that sounds really cold.

I missed the eclipse also. Nothing but rain and clouds. Flooding going on downtown but we have built many flood channels and holding basin in the last 20 years so it should not be major until it hits the small towns near the Arizona border. My home town got more than a foot of snow on Friday and then rain on Saturday. This storm is coming in lower in California so it is not being stopped by the Sierra Mountains. But the Sierra's got close to 15 feet of snow. THAT IS A LOT OF SNOW.

I have not gotten my cards done so they will have to be Happy New year cards.

The rain is suppose to stop for a few days and then another wave coming in. Phoenix is suppose to get it later this evening. Everyone in the South West is dancing in the street. Merry Christmas from Mother Nature.

Winter sowing is something I have never tried. As soon as the rain pulls back I am going to hit the front landscape and get everything cleaned up and have some new ideas for spring.

I got approval from the board for the new Roses for the entry. 70 new roses. We are removing all the old dirt, rocks and bringing in new soil and adding gro mulch. And then we are planting ther roses in a 15 gallon container, with the bottom cut out, The 15 gallon pot will be filled with miracle gro potting mix with a pinch of sulfur. The pots will be below ground level. I will take photos before and after.

There are tree leaves everywhere. To wet to blow away. Gardeners are not working on Friday so they will probably be around for a while. Makes it feel like home. I will go out and take a photo and post later today.

Have a great day. See you tonight. Sharon.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You all have been busy. My satellite dish was snowed in so I had no reception. Bob finally got to that after cleaning decks etc. got the snowplow guy here and cleared the driveway, then of course my dish was last.

I was expecting FedEx with a new printer today but just found out they changed it to the 23rd. It will be a new toy, our Christmas gift for the 2 of us.

Bob is cleaning another deck so we can get to the bird feeders. I want to put out a couple more suets but don't know, we had a raccoon out here last night. I wouldn't mind feeding the animals but they won't stay away from the house if I do. The garbage doesn't smell but they might just try it anyway and I sure don't need that.

Fortunately the bears are hibernated so they won't be down for another couple of months. But the raccoons sure can make a mess. We don't let the dogs out when they are near 'cause that could be a bloody fight and a huge vet bill if the dogs even survived.

Yes, Sharon, we saw on the news that you all are under a real siege of water. We got another half foot or so of snow last night. I am sure glad Bob is here to clean the snow up. He just gets them cleaned and the snow on the roof lets go and covers it all up again. The stuff is just like flour it is so dry.

Men are so stubborn. I told him to spray the shovel with cooking oil and it is so much easier. But do you think he will even try it? Nooooooo. He will have a heart attack instead.

Well, gotta get busy, you all take it easy, stay in and keep warm.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I actually broke down and raised my voice at Vern for the first time in a very long time. I scared him to death. I did apologize later but told him I get two outbursts a year and since that was the first this year he might want to go somewhere until Jan 1.

Getting my hair curled and going out to purchase the Prime Rib. I just need to remember I am feeding 12 people, not 20.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh I am the same way. We like lots of choices. My dd did Thanksgiving and my son was all disappointed because she did not have 3 kinds of meat, 2 veggies, two types of bread, 4 desserts etc. lol I am going nuts now, but should really not.

Thanks Dave, I bet Park or Burpee etc. probably has them. I have better luck asking on the trades threads and finding stuff I want.

I'm building an Ark how about you other Western state people?

Thanks for my cards you guys. I just did not get to it this year for some reason. Something with my job makes me exhausted when I get home and I just want to say hi to yall and veg in front of the tv and watch shows or a movie. I did not want to add extra stress on myself this year since we have had one sickness after another in the last month.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Hi to all
JB, I am so glad your kitty was found.
My news isn't so good. I lost my little one after a day in the hospital.
ttyal, Lee

Pawleys Island, SC

Lee, I am so soo sorry you lost your little one.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Me too. I am happy for you, when I lose an animal it is all I can think about.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That's too bad Lee, but 12 years didn't you say? is quite a long time for a dog. My big dog is going on 15 years, so I guess it depends on the breed. But, you know you gave him a wonderful life.

JB, glad you got your cat. Bet it was pretty hungry. The darned cats do that. They go in behind someone and you just don't know they are in there. Lucky you found it.

Dawn, don't sweat the small stuff. We used to say. LOL. I'll tell you what I told Lee. If I wanted a card in return I would have sent them right after Thanksgiving day so people would have had plenty of time to run out and buy cards to send me. LOL Not the last minute like everything else I do. Relax and have a good Christmas. That's what it should be about.

Jeanette

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Lee, I am so sorry about your little one. He is up in dogie heaven telling all the other dogs how lucky he was because he had such a wonderful home.

Yes Dawn, we are under flood warning and it is flooding closer to the Arizona border. Suppose to rain through tomorrow night. And tomorrow we are suppose to have THUNDER. I love Thunder.....

I did not get the photo taken of the leaves. I will tomorrow morning.

I got the Prime Rib and it is a good thing I was not looking for a large one because they were out.

See you all tomorrow.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Good morning everyone:

Lee I am so sorry for your loss. at least you know he is in doggy heaven. I am sure you provided him with anything he could have ever wanted.

Jeanette: How does the stem look at and just above the soil line? It looks to me to be a disease of some kind foliar. If I am seeing it correctly the leaf above the bad one has signs of the begining of the disease?. I guess my 1st question next should be what are your plans for it after christmas? Personally I would look at removing the leaf carefully followed by washing your hand asap.
Some people do try to grow them on for the following year but its tricky to do especially if you have outside lights in the neighborhood as they bloom acording to day length.

as the leaf is a bit difficult to see closely you might also try giving it some epsom salts in low dose. these are a couple of guesses. I am leaning towards the disease but at this point in the plants life a little bit of mg most likely would not hurt. I don't know who all knows this trick but its a good $$$ saver. if you need to add magnesium to your plants buy epsom salts from the grocery store as its expensive once you put the breakdown for plants. Its kind of like buying a regular tool that is also used in specific trades. label the trade on the tool and watch the price shhot through the roof.

Dawn: sorry to be so general on seed supplier. the only Picasso I found was the pretty much picasso

Ok now for the euphorbia diamond frost. It should be pretty easy to put together a 4 tray order so jeanette can get her diamond frost's The greenhouse's that carry it also sell sweet potatoe vine, verbena, Thunbergia (lemon a peel & Orange a peel) several different kinds of grasses, bacopa, Lobelia' Fuchia's, Coleus, double impatiens. One of the seller's also sell the muli liners to make fantastic baskets.

Back when we were growing tropical foliage i did some 10" baskets with extra cuttings.... they were a site to behold. I wish I could find the pics I took of them.

Sharon dinner sounds mighty tasty....

well folks I will be off line for a few days this weekend as we board a plane friday am and will be traveling xmas eve and day.... not too sure what the scheduale is. I will pop on when I can. I do know I am hopeing to get some more ginger roots. I think I lost my spiral's as well as pinecone ginger but they seem to be all over down there.

well its back to laying down.... wouldn't you know it we have a storm coming in tomorrow night with a good chance of a white christmas.

TTYL
Dave

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Oh Lee, I am so sorry. I hold my breath every morning when I touch Barney. He sleeps so soundly I think he is dead. He is doing well. I had to put him on some meds over the weekend but he responded quickly. I nipped it in the bud.

If you remember this past Spring I had all that rain and I was going to build an ark. Never did and the rain finally stopped. I can only say thank God it was not snow. We dodged the bullet last week end...we got a very little snow, just a dusting really but it froze and it was a mess. This weekend we are getting your storm you had all week in the West and they are not sure which direction it will take. If it stays off the coast far enough, we will be o.k. again.

I am about to take a few months off. The cuttings of the Jasmine are taking hold and looking good. The aimees are coming but I am holding my breath on them. The CC that did not sell will be fine. The actual schedule for the IDEAL life of the Christmas Cactus is January - flowering; February and March Resting at about 55 degrees with infrequent watering. April to May water thoroughly when potting mix begins to dry out.
June to August Place outdoor in a shady spot; Sept. and Oct. Plant prepares to flower. Reduce length dayl;ight hours. Keep o the dry side and cool (55 to 60) until flower buds form. Then increase the water and temp.Nov. and Dec. Flowering, water normally temp no less than 55 deg.

. I am going to do some rearranging and research on the CC and may just give it all up with the exception of the jasmine (Maid of Orleans) Gardenia (Aimee) and the Holiday Cactus. I just must keep the volume down to a minimum this coming year. I am just too old to keep getting bigger. How many of you actually sell to the public other than Dave?

The paperwork in this State is enough to make you quit selling. Better get moving. Talk later. Hope you are all ready for your Holiday.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dave, other than the yellowing of some of the leaves the plant looks healthy. Stems etc. No plans for it after Christmas. I'm with JB. Maybe I will sit it out in a snow bank on the deck. LOL Bet you're right. JB jinxed it. I will try the ES tho.

I didn't see the DF at the greenhouse that you gave me the link for Dave. I saw where they told about it, but oh yes, I did see it at 168. Nothing smaller. And I didn't see any prices.

What tropical foliage did you put in baskets Dave? Would love to see the pictures. Where do you get your gingers.

Have a good trip to Florida and a nice Christmas Dave.

JB, maybe when you get your Aimees going I will buy another one from you. I loved that plant and it did so well until I brought it back inside after spending the summer outside. Better do things different.

Well, gotta go to town ttyl,

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

My stock plants of Aimee are all loosing leaves and they have mealy bug and I am about to trash them. They are taking up so much room and looking like H it is making me angry.

I fed them, gave them fish emul. but we are not having enough sun these days and they hate it. I keep the lights on as much as possible, but the electric bill is sky high this month and I am about to give up. I have 13 two year olds in the greenhouse along with all the cuttings and other things and I have no space for them. They would get more sunlight there if I could find room. Tomorrow I am going to try and clean them up a bit and spray them again. I have mealy bug on plants that they never were on before thanks to them.

That is why I am thinking about going another route and maybe I will not even grow them anymore. I do have a few dozen cuttings but if they make it over the winter I am not sure I want to do this again.

Just saw Mary on another forum. She sent me the most beautiful angel.I had sent her some seeds months ago.

I am sorry you all had words. She never mentions this forum. She never mentions anyone on this forum when I bump into her on other forums. I guess she will never come back. No big deal, there are other forums for people who do not understand us. LOL

I am getting tired. I am taking the kids to dinner tonight for our monthly night out. I do not know what I am hungry for. Hmmmmmmm

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Hey guys, I had to go back and try to find what we did to Merry. Guess it was over her grandson, but I didn't see anything bad enough to be that upset. I did notice her last post was edited to nothing so guess I missed the point.
Anyway, all is OK here i guess. Time will tell.
It is -3 today and pretty cold with the wind chill probably down -10 or so. Had to go out for a little while, and sure was happy to get home. Be nice when I can say something about gardening. Probably not for a couple of months tho. Lee

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well, to see what pis** whoops, me off, you would have to go back to the day she first came on our site and go a bit forward to where she first talked about her grandson. I have never heard anyone talk so vile about a person as that, especially a grandchild. I had a b***** about her right from then on and it would not matter what she said it would p*** me off.

I actually tried. Even sent her plants if you recall. But, as soon as she started talking about her GS again I saw red. I don't know about Sharon, but that was my fault.

If you want to go invite her back, go ahead but let me know first.

edited to add: As I said once, I would give anything to have my grandson live with and help me. Guess that is what stuck in my craw.

No no no!!!!! I just meant I couldn't remember what it was all about so I went back and read it. I agree with you about the situation. Wouldn't talk to anyone like she did. Far be it from me to worry about it, life is too short and I enjoy our little group too much. Anyone who can put up with me ----- Well enough said. I would be devestated if you guys ever got mad at me. You even let me talk non garden things :) Seems like that is all I have to say anymore, at least until the weather changes. Still have about 1 1/2 ft of snow on the ground. They say warming trend is coming, however, I think they are future casting about 3 months from now. lol

FYI

Here is the remark I made on July 23rd that somehow upset some one. IMHO .... I see nothing vile about it

My 21 year o;d grandson lives with me. He is in hot water with me. I spent over an hour earlier trying to connect to the internet. The problem was the ethernet cable was completly disconnected! Now that cannot happen by itself and I would have remembered doing something like that.

MARY

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That's about the amount of snow we have and would you believe it is suppose to be 43 degrees Saturday, so you are right it is coming. Just long enough to soften things up and then it will freeze hard. After all, winter just started yesterday.

What kind of dinner did you have JB? I love a good Mexican or Chinese restaurants. Haven't really been to any since we left Seattle. Well, a good Mexican restaurant we have. I love all that cheese they put on things.

Or Seafood. But none of those around here. They serve pollock if they can get away with it. But nothing better than cod. Too far inland I guess. This is going to slay you:

We went to a restaurant a couple of years ago in this little town 40 miles away and I asked the waitress something about the fish. Don't remember what it was, but she told me the fish was like beef it had to age. And she said it with a straight face. Needless to say, we did not order seafood.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Guess we crossposted Mary, I don't care to get into this.

I agree lets leave it alone I don't want to get into it either.
Thanks Jeanette, all I need is more snow and lower Temps. We may be small here in Miles City, BUT, we do have an excellent Mexican Restaurant. I get to judge, since we have traveled in Mexico. Twenty years worth, before we moved to Mt. They cook and serve so closely to what you actually get in Mexico,I have to believe they must have come from there!!! It is soooooooooo good. The oriental restaurant , not so much, so we don't go there very often. Darn it, now you have me hungry. Must go and find something ttyl, Lee
ps. Almost forgot, Seafood you can forget here, it is all frozen and I swear, freezer burnt. Ugly. And I love seafood, it is all I eat when we go to the coast to visit DD.

That's too bad about the freezer burning Lee, 'cause I think when the fish is frozen on board the ships it is actually fresher than the stuff they sell for fresh in the seafood markets. But, if it is too old, of course, then it is burnt.

You are lucky with the Mexican restaurant. Go to them often so they can stay in business. LOL, my thing for today.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Oh, I would love to get into it but I would like it to be in person. Verbal abuse hurts deeper and longer than a beating.

We are on the national news because of all of our rain. A whole bunch of water going into Lake Mead. My Koi pond is full up to the top and so is the pool. More rain in three days than we have had all year. It is a good thing they have spent many millions on the new flood control basins. Just about cut off from the rest of the United states. Roads closed going to Utah and Arizona. California is open but probably could not get pass Bakersfield.

I did some laundry today. But the biggest thing I did was take the three containers I have right by where I sit and lurk on my computer and cleaned them out. It is like a pile of things to do stuff. If you wait long enough, it can all be tossed. My handyman came by this morning to make sure I understood there was nothing he could do today.

Then we had CORL. (Clean out the Refrigerator Lunch). I had pinto beans and corn kernels mixed and a fried chicken thigh. Vern had black eyed peas and brown rice with cornbread and a fried chicken thigh. Now all the little leftover containers are empty. I think I am going to soak some beans tonight and make a small pot of beans with the pork shank tomorrow.

JB, I do not sale anything but I do give many things away. Especially my time and hugs.

Lee, you will never get on my wrong side because you are such a sweet person.

But I am like Jnette, ditto. Enough said.

Love you all.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Cross Post. You are it Jnette.

Lee USA Mexican food is very hard to find in Mexico. I had Goat when in Acapulco and I asked the young man, our waiter who was trying to get me to take him home with me, "What is this on my plate". He said, "Goat head cut in half". "Goat brains very very good". Then the street vendors had dead iguanas, hanging for your inspection before they cooked them. Right now I would not go near Mexico. To much killing going on down there. Later. Sharon.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I agree about Mexico now. Not good for tourism. Ya know it is not safe for Americans in many countries right now.
I hate goat meat. It reminds me of Cow's Tongue. Too strong and I don't like the texture.
