She's about to...56

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gosh, Fruity.. How do you do that???? That is gorgeous.

I guess we tied in the throw-down, College Girl said they were both good. His was a Gina de Larentia recipe with Parmesan cheese, thyme and kokan bread crumbs. Pan Fried. Mine were my secret recipe, fry daddyed.

Crit, I have MW for you and for Happ if she needs it, but I am not sending anything now until spring.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

We watch her too, she's a beautiful gal and has tasty recipes. I just watched her holiday show today. Sure wish I had her Pacific Coast view out my kitchen window, or any window. I still think your fry daddyed chicken looked the most appetizing.

Lemon Lime was a new bulb I got in the Fall. Just planted her and she did the rest, my guess is she was already cooled and ready to force into bloom. Those pinkish ones in the background about ready to pop wide open are on Amaryllis Nagano and her stalk is easily 2-1/2 ' tall, no kidding. And Amaryllis Elvas is singing again. I can't believe the Tropicals you have and grow, you don't have any Amaryllises. When mine have babies, you'll be first in line. And oh my gosh, do I dare say some of them also set seeds?!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I sure hope that troipcal cajun hibiscus sweet pink takes root from the cuttings I made tonight.
Would't it be grand to have those for a trade or something?

I almost bought an Amaryllis Kit. I am sure the one my third daughter gave me two years ago is still down there somewhere, but the leaves do not look like yours do.

They look like crinums to me. ( the ones I have_) which have also not bloomed under my care. I am about to send one to LindaKay, this spring. I bet she can get them to bloom.
This is the Morning glory moon vine from behind, downstairs. it is very heavy with scent.
I seem to be able to grow things like this from seed. I had one pod from one of the tropical ibiscus, and planted all 6 seeds. they are cooking n the hot shelf right now. i can't wait to see sprouts. But I really hope to see leaf nodes on the other hibiscus cuttings I took a couple weeks ago. Okay hugs to you all and have a good night!

I have never tried criniums. Have to look it up to see what it is! LOL! But willing to try!
Oh, I just looked up criniums, and I do love them! Please send me one, and I will do my best to grow it!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Merry Christmas to all you dear friends...I love you all and thank you so much for the Birthday wishes. I have had a great B day in spite of feeling like......now it's bragging time.
Look at what Ammama has.....This is my Great Granddaughter at 8 days old.
I was supposed to see her today but I am so full of that dreaded cold I wouldn't go. My Daughter, Kaydince's Grandmother took the pic.

She's a perfect beautiful baby, Faye...look at her sweet cheeks just waiting to be pinched! Knowing you she's going to be spoiled rotten. Is that an understatement...lol Having the crud is a pain, am just getting over mine that's been hanging on since Thanksgiving. Take care of yourself and keep sending photos and progress reports of Kaydince :)

Don't know about the rest of you but I'm ready to move on to the New Year. Can't sing worth a toot, happ, but am chiming in with the next chorus.....

GOOD TIDINGS WE BRING TO YOU AND YOUR KIN;
GOOD TIDING FOR CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I'll pass on the figgy pudding...lol but wouldn't mind having a slice of minced meat pie, and you can bet I'll be raising a cup of good cheer!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Good Morning..
Happy Belated Birthday, Faye! What an angel you have there. So sorry you are sickly, get well soon.
After all the Asti, I ended up in bed from 4 pm until now. ugh.

P am ready to start more seeds. My cherry tomatoes greeted me this am with little waving sprouts. All I did was lay a shriveled raison looking tomatoe from the gARDEN ON TOP OF A CUP OF MIX WITH AN INCH OF VERMICULITE, PUT IT IN A CLEAR BAG AND POOF! LOL oopsie caps lock.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

That's okay, Debra ... something to shout about. Woohoo!!!

Now what can I say about that baby except WOW! Adorable!

Everyone get and stay well for the New Year!!! ^_^

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I'm leaving the decorations up and going to go check out the plants and find out how I am doing......hope everything thing made it despite the neglect. It is sooooo cold here...yuck.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

cold here too, I about froze my tai tai's off feeding the critters, which... I am now out of bird and squirrel food, so I gave them a mix of blueberry oatmeal, flax and almond total, choco kix, chopped pecans, craisens, some doggie biscuits and some raisin bran. I sure hope they don't expect that every morning now. what a mess. ( all dry)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rofl....Debra, I bet that is some happy critters....they think they hit the mother load....rofl. I have seeds but ran out of thistle so I am going into our little city and buy a way over priced bag.....ugh!
I know for a fact if you run out of bird food, that they will live and survive on purnia cat chow, dry. For baby birds cause I have raised several just add water and they love the stuff. I raised a baby starling that would not leave home. He would go out during the day and show up back at the porch at night. So we kept him as a pet. I would come home every evening and say "well hello Buckwheat" and one evening I walked in and said well hello buckwheat and he said "Well hello buckwheat", I about fell out. He ended up with quite a vocabulary after I figured out they could talk. He could whistle the Mexican hat dance, Jingle bells and all kinds of stuff. One time we went out of town in August and my Sister animal sitted for me and one day she took a nap and dreamt of Christmas which she thought was odd, until she figured out he was whistling it to her. I know most people hate them but they are soooo smart. Since they are not a native bird, brought here from England by the settlers it is not against the law to have one. He lived a long time.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Cool! ^_^

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I liked that memory of yours, it was beautiful and heartwarming, and I am glad you love birds. How cool is that to have a wild one love you back so much.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

You have the best recollections and such a natural knack for keeping us entertained, happ. I swear when you retire if you you wrote a book it would be a New York Times best seller. And think about the royalty checks rolling in..... you'd be able to have a jungle of any plants your heart desires and a full-time staff to take care of them...lol

Hope you're feeling better, Susie. Thought you and Sweet Pea would like to see Amaryllis "Blossom Peacock" just beginning to strut her stuff.

The wind is still howling something fierce and temps will be down in the teens again tonight. The 4" dab of snow we got over the week-end was so light and fluffy I couldn't believe how the wind has just about blown all of it out of our driveway. We have drifts in our yard and sunk in several places between my ankle and 1/3 up my knees this morning when I checked the mail. The meltdown will soon be on though when we're back in the 50's Friday.

How much snow did you get, Faye? News this morning said Raleigh got 7".

Awesome creations, Char. You've been holding back your talents. OMG, I'm a glass paperweight nut and especially love antique French ones that have millefiori canes. Those canes you created are simply amazing. What medium did you use?

Mystery solved....remember when I posted a few weeks ago about a lady working at our local Goodwill who literally found a pocketful of money? Turns out nobody claimed the wad and news tonight disclosed the amount of $1,400 will be "recycled" into their Foundation. What a great Christmas gift for them to add to the kitty.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

She is using polymer clay! Aren't they pretty! I think I see real Charlie hair in them too???

Wow, what a nice find in the pocket!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gorgeous Mules there Char. I think they are beautiful.
That does look like Charlie hair there.
Good News for the Goodwill. It is about time for Good will towards men, right?
(women, too)

Okay, I am thinking Spring as much as I can. The amaryllis has me drooling. No kits about here at our wally-world only new years stuff, clearance Christmas and I swore I saw some easter crap coming out on a rack yesterday afternoon.

Isn't valentines day next?
So far I have planted: hibiscus seeds Tropical ( mine)
Hibiscus Mary Poppins ( from Carole)
Hibiscus Luna Pink Swirl ( Carole)
Triple Yellow Datura ( another Dg'r)
Double swirl purple Datura ( another Dg'r)
Salvia Lady In red ( mine)
I. Albivenia
I. Jaegerii
Cairo Messina Creeper
Canary Creeper
Tomatoes ( sweet 100's)
Peppers ( ornamental black pearl)
Brazilian Verbena
B. Arborea ( Kell) Brugmanisa
Celosia
Coleus
Lotus

I came home tonight and was doing fine shelling seeds and bagging them while we watched TV. Earlier, tho, there was a loud noise, and we couldn't figure out where it came from, figured it was the washer shaking the microwave cart full of corning ware during a spin cycle) . When I went into the pink bedroom to check on the plants, the whole chest of drawers holding my Both of My Angel Wing Cane begoinas and one of my precious T bulbifers were all out on the floor exploded and broken. I threw a fit. Hubby and College Girl come in and tell me it is not enough to get excited over, and she says" Oh its from my shoes, they are too heavy and it must have fallen over from the weight of them" all calm and serious she sounded. .... I am like WHAT>> ?
oh I see, she left the drawers open on top, loaded down with shoes,( you know, the ones you see in magazines and fredricks of hollywood?) and of course it is going to top over. DUH! * Fume*

oh, and I planted a lot more, but that's all I can think of right now. I am getting my hobbies lined up for this long haul we call "winter".

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Debra, what a mess! So sorry for your plants. The 20 somethings in the office wear at least what must be 6inch heels.....they crack me up, cause they come in and show me their beautiful shoes and then by 1ish they can barely walk their feet hurt so bad, then they are barefoot not long after that. I can remember those days altho I don't think I ever wore any as high as they do. I just love them, they keep me smiling most of the time.

Saying 59 on Thursday, maybe windy but I think I will take off and spray everything down with neem oil. Can't really spray it in the house and kind of scares me cause I read it can be sticky so I don't want to spray it in the garden room, it has rough cedar walls.
This will be my first attempt at using it. Any suggestions? Hope this doesn't turn into another story.....rofl. I will spray everything really well and then try what FOTV says and just use a spray bottle for followup. Need to fill up my rain barrel also since the hose should unfreeze at that time.

Debra you are starting things already? Too early for me to get motivated. Think I will start a bunch in winter sowing but later this winter. Still gotta get Christmas cleaned up this weekend.

Altho I appreciate the warming weather I sure don't want many days this warm cause it is way too early for things to start sprouting around here.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes, watch the Neem spraying indoors. It does coat things and leave a residue.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you Carole, I was afraid of that. Looks like I will be busy Thursday.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello everyone. Sure is cold here, Our 4" of snow is still not all gone. Sunny now so maybe it will go soon.
Gosh Debra, you sure are smart...planting already. LOL almost said I wouldn't start until Jan. then realized that is almost here. I can imagine your feelings to see your plants, the dresser and the entire mess. Yep, I would have been a bit excited (saying it nice) too.
Dear sweet Debra, thank you so much for the "special" card. I will pass it on to the Mother, and ask her to put card and gift in the Baby Book. That will be an awesome story for Kaydince when it is explained to her.
Char, I want to come play with you! Beautiful mules.
This has been an awesome Christmas & Birthday for me. Dear friends and family remembering my Birthday and keeping it separate from Christmas. Among the most treasured gifts are those given from the heart like this gift from a one in a lifetime friend.
Love & hugs
Faye

Come on down Faye, You will be most welcome. Too cold now but summer is on the way. I'd love to see you. The longears love to meet people. I'll give you a horse cookie to give them. They are spoilt, one tad bit short o ruint!☺☺

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've followed her a bit on that thread but sometimes miss it. Seems I can't always keep up with the threads. Guess I'm getting slow in my old age. LOL. ;-)

Those mules are pretty cool, Char. ^_^

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Look at Debra go!!! It pained me to read about the incident with the chest falling over. Ugh! :( I am getting ready to start some hardy Hibiscus from seed and then have all those seeds you sent, Debra. Oh my!! I think I need a "Debra Garden" because I could fill up a good sized garden with all those seeds. Can't wait to see them growing. ^_^
